It's a good-sized airport but still very easy to navigate and completely walkable. The airport appears to have been recently updated (almost new) with a sleek and modern design throughout. What stood out most to me was how empty it felt both on arrival and departure. There were plenty of open seats, not crowded at all. The biggest downside was the food selection, especially in the U.S. terminal. There were only a couple dining options and one lounge with fairly underwhelming food offerings. That said, gates and flight information were easy to find, and overall the airport functions efficiently and smoothly. Next time I'd probably get my own food before heading to the airport, but otherwise it does exactly what you need it to do.

We spent some time in the international section recently (our flight to Punta Cana was delayed several hours). No problem - I went shopping, lol. I was disappointed though to see Victoria's Secret boutique is gone, as well as the vintage luxury shop. They seem to be renovating that area, so that's probably why. Made some purchases at The Loop and got some macarons from La Biscuitterie - very delicious for airport macarons! I have never had (yet) a bad experience or long lineup at security here (so far). As far as airports go, I would take that one anytime over smaller airports with nothing to do.

There are great tarmac views along with a cooking station of hot foods (stay away from the poutine... yes I know this is Montreal but do yourself a favour, pass on it!). The smoked meat is not bad but not a fan of the toasted sammie. There is a coke dispenser along with bottled juice. The alcohol is served from the bar and not self serve like it's domestic counterpart. The big plus is there are 2 shower rooms to freshen up before your flight out.

However, it's super touristy, which means prices are inflated and finding parking can be a literal nightmare. I have no idea what was going on - a plumbing issue, a busted septic tank, a pig farm on the property... who knows. All I know was that we could not spend another minute more than necessary in this horrid, horrid stenchbox. But... they have cheap beer and liquor to take to Canada. They conveniently package them in cases of 24 and liters, respectively, which is the maximum amount per person allowed over the border. Perhaps ironically, I chose the Labatt Blue - a case of 24 was $20, no taxes, no bottle deposits. An admirable deal. Supposedly you need to keep your receipt to show to the border patrol in Canada... but you know how it goes... they REALLY don't care in Canada. :)

One of the oddest Duty Free Shops you'll find at a border crossing. The building looks like a…read morehouse and is located at the very last exit before the border station. To get here, you have to take the exit, go all the way to the end, then turn right onto a country road, and finally into the long driveway leading to the store. Upon purchasing your items, you will be escorted by a lead car driven by an employee of the store to a point where you have to take the side road leading to the on-ramp which brings you to the Canadian border. The distance is very short. The reason for the escort is that the Duty Free Shop is located in an area where one could take a country road South thus avoiding the border. If you are returning from Canada at the same border crossing which is Highgate, there is a much larger more modern Duty Free Store just a couple hundred feet from the US border station with a huge selection of items.
