Man oh man, probably the biggest flapjacks I've eaten this side of the Mississippi. I kid you not, it took four of us to take out the two fluffy frisbee -size discs that came with my Lumberjak breakfast order. Nothing fancy here--- food that's made from scratch, huge portions, wisecracking waitresses that are ready with coffee refills and happy to dispense lots of local knowledge, awesome breakfasts and ...pretty average coffee. It's charming, it's cozy, it's basically a converted house, filled with some kitschy decor and historical photos, low ceilings, and the laughter and chatter of a local community gathered around massive piles of eggs and hash browns. I loved it -- my Lumberjak order came with the aforementioned giant pancakes (stuffed with blueberries of course), two sausage links, two eggs and a ton of hashbrowns... and toast (get the homemade option). Monday, 10am, seems like there was always one party waiting for an empty table as the place was constantly filled with diners. Waitstaff seemed busy taking orders and serving. Offered flavored bean coffees: highlander grogg, hazelnut, maple, Michigan cherry. Ordered hazelnut coffee, the western omelet, hash browns well done, homemade marble rye toast $.50 upgrade. Large portion and omelet filled with lots of ham, onions and green peppers, $10.25. It was topped with a scant bit of cheddar cheese. The type of cheese used in the omelet wasn't on the menu. Lessons learned: ask. I did not care for the American cheese used for the inside. As a single diner, and a full diner, wasn't given much attention, too long of wait for the promised coffee refill and requested hot sauce. I was camping and had to get supplies in town, and I decided to stop in at a little place I saw on the way. This is a place that seems popular with the locals, where people can have breakfast with friends and linger over coffee. My server was a sweet young lady, who made some excellent recommendations. Good, basic home cooking. Not fancy and not gourmet by any means, but it was a good lunch.

This place is excellent!! Strongly recommend going for breakfast!! Service was great, friendly and efficient. I had the special from the chalkboard which said "2 small blueberry pancakes, 2 eggs, choice of bacon or sausage." Well, the pancakes were Huge and stuffed with fresh blueberries - absolutely delicious!! I got the eggs scrambled, and 2 slices of crispy bacon!! My husband ordered the Logger's omelette, which was stuffed with crispy hashbrowns, cheese and chunks of ham! It came with your choice of toast - we highly recommend their homemade wheat bread!! The slices were thick and delicious!! Many of the customers seemed to be regulars, so it has a friendly ambiance. We will definitely return next time we're in town! read more

I'm rating it Good, but with reservations. Here's why. My family and I regularly visit Fremont, Michigan a couple of times a month. With each visit, we usually pick a local restaurant in which to have breakfast or lunch. So far, our favorite restaurant for a breakfast meal is The Lumberjack Shak. We knew the restaurant had been there for many, many years, so we weren't too concerned about the decor. There's a nice selection of breakfast items and the things that usually go wrong with breakfast in other restaurants always turn out right at this restaurant. Eggs are never raw nor overcooked. Hash browns are always browned nicely and not anemic looking. Sausage is never burned. Pancakes are huge and come with your choice of syrup. The biscuits are freshly made, soft and delicious -- the sausage gravy is very good and the combo is served with multiple breakfast options, or a la carte. The food is served quickly. Breakfasts are so huge, they come served on platters, and even with just 3 people, the entire tabletop is always covered with food. The waitress' work hard and are always busy, since the place is almost completely full every time we go there. However, tables are quickly turned over, cleaned off, and we have never had to wait more than 2 mins. for a table. We were surprised when my mother ordered strawberry shortcake the last time we visited this restaurant, and it came in a styrofoam container like you would use for a burger. However, the container was jam-packed with biscuits, fresh strawberries, and LOTS of whipped cream. What a great dessert and lots of it. We loved that it came with lots of real strawberries, a not some gel from out of a can. Now, here's what I would change. The lunch items don't get the same love and attention as the breakfasts. My companions got their beautiful breakfast long before I got my sandwich. The order of onion rings I ordered with it came even later. So 10 mins. after my fellow diners got their food, I was still being served. The first time I went there, I had the Turkey Club Supreme, however, there was nothing really supreme about it. The sandwich was dry, and most of the meat and filling was piled in the middle of the sandwich without there being much of it. I ate half and took the other half home... then doctored up the sandwich later that evening to enjoy, adding extra ham, turkey and mayo. With the sandwich, I had onion rings. They were almost $1 a piece and small. w I don't know if half of the order got dropped on the kitchen floor or what, but it was disappointing after that long wait. 2 of my 5 onions rings were the knobby ends of an onion. The onion rings were hot and delicious, but the quantity, size and the long wait make them undesirable as a side. I vowed then and there that if I ever came back, I would order a breakfast. I did go back, and it was wonderful. However, one of my companions ordered the 3 piece chicken strip basket at that visit. Oh my, the moment her plate was set on the table, I could see she would not enjoy it. The chicken strips were thin, and dry as a chip. They pulled apart like cotton, having been frozen for who knows how long. How strange, since the restaurant advertises the fact they bake their own breads. You would think the lunches would get the same attention. Instead, they looked like they were pulled from a cheap, frozen meal. Since her meal came with coleslaw, she invited me to try it. Oh my, AWFUL! Wilted cabbage in a tsp. of milk with a smidgen of sugar. So the coleslaw was dry and tasteless. No salt or vinegar added.. No doubt, we will go back again, but we will do what all the other locals seem to do... Order Breakfast! Make sure you get there before 2pm, as the restaurant closes at 3pm. It's open 7 days a week, but on Sundays, it closes at 2pm. read more

The place for home style cooking in Fremont. Considering breakfast is so important, I am surprised this place isn't know globally. I'm sure the Food Network had it on their list. I've never been disappointed eating a big meal here. The homemade corn beef hash is the best thing on the menu. While at times, the place is crowded with regulars, you aren't required to wait a long time for the food and the service is good. My kids have a hard time deciding what they want, but that is only because it's all so good! read more

Let's start by painting the picture, my mother, my fiancé, and I came into their business and noticed it was relatively busy because of the fair down the road, after about 5-7 minutes we sat down, they gave us our coffee and took our order. After they took our order we received very little contact with our server and after 45 minutes of waiting on our food I finally flagged down our server and asked how much longer will it be before our food comes out, we were told 5 minutes and she started to walk off before I told her how long we've been waiting. Since talking to her 4 parties ordered their food, ate, and paid their bill. After an hour and five minutes we finally received our food, and noticed that my food was not cooked correctly, finally the owner came out to apologize to the larger group and gave them 15% off their bill. They had to wait a shorter time for their food, my mother had to grab the owner as she was walking away and she had no intention of making us happier and after my mom told the owner that our food was wrong the owner came out with our correct order in a matter of minutes, at this point we were so frustrated that my fiancé couldn't even eat the food because it looked old and burnt. I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT EVER AGAIN, I'D RATHER EAT AT HOME OR FAST FOOD THAN ATTEMPT GOIN HERE AGAIN! read more

Not much atmosphere. Just a typical small town restaurant. They fry a mean hamburger here. Just a plain Ol' fried on the grill, sorta greasy, hamburger. They serve them hot! Watch your mouth. You can get them for lunch during the week, and they are open Friday evening. Price seems pretty reasonable. Lots of people seem to like the fish fry too. read more
