Every stop on the tour was interesting, well timed and packed with cool facts and photo opportunities. And let's talk about the ice cream at Little Man. Life changing. I am still thinking about it. Because hello, Segways are a TON of fun, and a great way to get up close to attractions without having to walk or being stuck on a bus! However, this tour in particular wasn't one of the better ones we've been on. Because the storage/training area is in a parking garage, you meet your guide outside a nearby restaurant so they can take you into the alley and down to the secret Segway closet (seriously DOWN a massive ramp, which may be intimidating for inexperienced riders). The instructions explicitly state that restrooms are available inside the restaurant...but for a 10am tour, they're not open yet. Luckily, the Panera next door was happy to give us the code for their restrooms. The Segways themselves have obviously seen WAY better days. Our guide apologized for being late due to having to inflate the tires, but the handlebars were banged up, my Segway made a constant clanking/rattling noise from one wheel, and the guide ended up riding one with a low battery because no others with fully inflated tires were available. The available helmets were in similar rough condition. While our guide was friendly enough, knew the basic spiels for the stops, and even texted me in advance of the tour to confirm we knew where we were going (and when he was running late), he also seemed pretty lackadaisical (although pleasant) and didn't wear a helmet. I was also annoyed that, for some reason, we didn't receive the waivers via email ahead of time, so we had to fill them out on the guide's phone. In hindsight, he wasn't checking anything, so I should've just lied and said we'd already signed... On the upside, we were the only two people signed up, so we got a longer tour and more stops that we would have otherwise. Since we've ridden Segways before, we also got to skip the training -- we just hopped on and demonstrated that yup, we know what we're doing. A vast improvement over watching 10+ people slowly get the hang of it! And of course, we really enjoyed seeing a wide variety of Denver spots up close and personal, and learning at least a little bit about some of them. So while you can't ever really go wrong with a Segway tour, definitely head into this one with open eyes about what to expect.

The current exhibition on Australian Indigenous Art "The Stars We Do Not See" is a stunning example of how much there is to gain and appreciate from going to see something you know nothing about. I particularly enjoy the tours, ongoing programs and lectures that the Museum offers. In conjunction with with the Aboriginal exhibit, the monthly "Mindful Looking" program offered a deep dive into one painting in that exhibit as a group of maybe 50 patrons listened in rapt attention as the curator of "The Stars We Do Not See" gave us a deep understanding of not only how that piece was made, but also its historical, symbolic and hidden perspectives. This is just a tiny slice of the education, amazement and enjoyment the Denver Art Museum has to offer. It's a treasure.

The Hamilton Building has several floors and houses arts of Africa & Oceania, indigenous arts of North America, Western American art, architecture and design galleries, modern and contemporary art. It has indigenous arts of North America, Asian art, Latin American art & art of the Ancient Americas, European/American art before 1900, photography, textile art, fashion and major architecture and design collection. Both buildings are good to explore; but if you're pressed for time, I'd recommend going to The Kirkland first (which is my favorite).

Aaron was great about pulling over so everyone could grab photos whenever we spotted something cool. Designed specifically to display Clyfford Still's work, this "small" museum (as many of my museum colleagues would call it) is actually quite large - enough for a few hours of wondering... The building itself is a beautiful and perfectly complements the art collection's scale, themes, and colors. I was told it has over 3000 pieces (over 90%) of the artist's works; and he believed the best way to experience an artist's work was by seeing it all in one place. It was indeed a great experience to be submerged in such an environment -- you feel so much more who he was and what he wanted to express. Must give this "small" museum a BIG applause! Everything was nicely done and it was a great pleasure to visit. AND, their website (https://clyffordstillmuseum.org/) is absolutely amazing! I've seen many museums' websites and theirs is the first one where I saw "Accessibility Adjustments" tool (look for the small person in a circle at the lower left corner) that helps people with different challenges. We narrowed it down to Rome and Tuscany, and then began pricing the different hotels, tours, rental cars, etc. By happenstance I heard a radio ad for Che Bella Tours and realized that they offered exactly what we were looking for in Italy -without any of the hassle! Che Bella's inclusive tours provide accommodations in a very nice Rome hotel, a gorgeous villa in Tuscany and a combination of meals at great restaurants throughout. We could not have been more pleased with our experience. Sandy Gregory our tour operator was really helpful, responsive and enthusiastic from the very beginning. She gave us good advice about choosing flights, and sent us a packing guide, too. In Italy, Sandy proved to be just as knowledgeable about the history, art and customs as the professional guides who led us on our private tours of the Vatican and the famous cathedrals and duomas in Tuscany. Each day, as we headed towards another beautiful medieval town, Sandy would give us a break-down of the day ahead, and give us options for exploring, shopping and dining with a scale of being totally on our own or having her along as a guide and/or lunch dinner companion. It was great to be able to wander around by ourselves, trying our Italian out and discovering the magic of each place on our own, and also to have Sandy meet up with us at certain times to check in and give us more insights or advice about places to see. The guides that Sandy arranged for our private tours were art history experts and they really opened up the experience of each place for us. It can be a bit overwhelming to be surrounded by so much Renaissance art, so a knowledgeable guide is really important. Plus, we were whisked to the front of the very long lines to see the Vatican museum in Rome and The David in Florence! The hotels where we stayed were wonderful, especially the villa in San Gimignano. I still dream about it! The surrounding vineyards and olive tree groves, the beautiful pool, the wonderful breakfasts and elegant dining. I fell in love with that place. Che Bella Tours gives you a couple of days to be on your own and do nothing if you want, and we spent a very enjoyable afternoon lounging beside the hotel pool, drinking Rose' and taking in the spectacularly beautiful views. One of the highlights of our trip was the cooking class in Certaldo that Sandy arranged for us. We learned to make fresh pasta, osso bucco and a dessert, and we had so much fun in the process then enjoyed a delicious meal at the end that we had prepared ourselves! As soon as I returned home I ordered a pasta maker as we are forever spoiled by the amazing pasta that was our daily staple in Italy. If you have an opportunity to take a Che Bella Tour - do it! The experience offered is so rich. It is not just a tour, but a true appreciation and immersion in the culture and art and lifestyle of the country you are visiting.

PRO TIP: try avoiding the most back row if you have long legs or any stress with mobility. Because once you sit there, the seat is assigned and you will have to deal with being cramped in a tighter space. And you basically are always the last one to get off. This was one of the biggest cons. Moving on, the tour itself was great. We stopped by a cafe on the way to and back, for food and bathroom breaks, and pretty soon, the van took us to the Rocky Mountain with beautiful views and even saw many wildlife - the big horn sheep, elk, deer (i think), and, not to forget, smaller animals like birds, mouse, and chipmunks, but no moose spotted. Nonetheless, the breathtaking view of the Rockies is certainly worth the journey. The guide was very knowledgeable about trees and shared many stories about the places and tips for visiting Denver in general! She also took us to a few Native American owed stores that featured indigenous art that were very cool to see. One thing to note is that I think the Colorado Sightseer, the tour company, had listed at least two slightly different itineraries, and I might have been sent to the one I did not pick. I noticed because I intentionally picked the tour with visits to two visitor centers, vs the one I went on only took us to Beaver Meadows. Not a big deal bc I did get still get my stamp, and the tour used most of the day's time efficiently by visiting many attractions. But this might be something you want to make sure if the stops matter a lot to you. Nonetheless, with a group tour, it is understandable and expected for the itinerary to potentially change. For instance, the day I went, the tour guide actually too us to visit places in different order to avoid crowds. Another thing to really appreciate is that the tour provided some snacks, extra gloves/beanies, which were really a lifesaver in the cold mountains. I know I was not fully prepared for it and so glad I could borrower some!
