Where do I even begin?! I am a Midwestern/Catholic small-town girl at heart. Always been very small-chested with a narrow/athletic build. Married 22 years and BF 5 children. Never in my mind had I ever considered breast implants based upon the stigma and look I had always despised. However, in the last 2 years I went back and forth and was now heavily considering it for the first time in my life. Believe me, I really did my due diligence of massive research...asked a lot of questions...and contemplated for what seemed like forever. I googled a ton of pictures, doctors, and experiences. Naturally, I still had my fears and doubts about everything it involved though. For me, I had to be mentally and emotionally ready for it. I was not looking for others' opinions or approval. I did it for myself...for my own reasons that are important and justified in my eyes. This trumps all else no matter what. Dr. Maercks was one I kept going back to and reading about. Without meeting him in person yet, I was drawn to his vision of a natural and conservative approach. It was the "Mini BA" I had always been looking for. So, I sent in pix of myself (per requested) and talked on the phone with him after he reviewed. He said I'd be a great candidate for his well-known cold-subfascial surgery. He reassured me that I'd be super happy with the final results I was hoping for. I finally scheduled a consultation in person, along with 3 other doctors, just to be fair and sure of my decision. Nothing compared to his compassion, knowledge, and expertise. The other doctors suggested too small or too big and under the muscle. I would have been greatly disappointed for more reasons than one. Dr. Maercks had me share a little bit about myself as far as wants and needs go, along with where I was at in my life. He already had in mind what would look good on me...unbelievably SPOT ON!! Fast forward to 8 months later, after several emails/phone calls, I flew back out there to get it done. My final results speak for themselves! I LOVE how natural they feel AND look. I can still wear most of my own clothes, but they fill out much better and give me that womanly look I've always desired. I can play them down or up, depending on the occasion and clothing. Most importantly, I have a passion for working out and wanted to keep it all proportionate with my smaller/fit frame. I do teach group fitness classes and enjoy lifting weights/running. I definitely did not want them to weigh me down or make me look top heavy. It's truly amazing how quickly I adjusted to them and how I feel like they've always been a part of me. I told him that I can't wait to do them again in my 50s!!! Ha-ha...boob greed right there:) Here are a few stats to help anyone looking for a baseline comparison. I'm 44 yrs old, weigh 140#, 5'6" tall, and was a 34AA/AAA. Used to wear size xs/s tops and wear s/m tops today (sports bras size med). Now I am a pleased 34C/36B. I emphasized wanting to be a full B/small C and that was beyond successful! He suggested 345cc moderate profile silicone cohesive gel. They have the natural slope/drop shape, but still helped fill out my upper pole giving me slight projection. Everyone is different and depends on where one starts. I had little fat tissue to begin with, but my skin was thick enough to work with. No rippling, wide gap, or huge scars for me. Victory!! I hope this helps anyone looking for advice and info. It can be overwhelming, but your situation can end up being a satisfying one. Yes, we are all different but have similar end goals in mind as well. I have given him permission for others to reach out to me with any questions. I didn't touch on recovery, expectations, and such, but that was minor. I find it helpful to talk with others you can relate to and better understand the process. It's quite a journey and not one to take lightly. Just know you are in good hands from beginning to end with him and his staff at The Maercks Institute...a wonderful plastic surgeon and facility for sure! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE read the negative reviews of him on Yelp, Google and RealSelf to understand how bad it can be especially if you value your time, your money or your beautiful looks. The positive reviews are overly fluffy while the negative ones absolute horror stories including mine. He failed to meet any of the overly high expectations that he claimed to be capable of delivering for every procedure. Worse than failing to live up to his descriptions of himself, the self-named MAERCKS facelift, MAERCKS breast augmentation and so called "sneaky" facial injections all told costing approx. 100K resulted in a laundry list of complications as follows: traumatically torturous physical pain in recovery of the facelift and breast augmentation, bedridden for 10 days with 2 massive hematomas on both sides of my neck, permanent nerve pinching to my right ear along with a partially lopped off tragus, pronounced railroad track scars across both upper eyelids, and an extensive infection of my right breast resulting capsular contracture within just weeks of the breast surgery. If all that doesn't sound horrible enough, I was present in his office to consult about the infection 5 days before his preplanned 3 week vacation out of the country. Rather than recommend an emergency procedure to remove the infected implant immediately, he prescribed antibiotics for me then departed the country leaving me for another 4 full weeks. Upon his return, he actually suggested doing nothing as a possible option saying he believed the antibiotics had resolved the infection. I'd like to make this crystal clear - he addressed his personal affairs first and foremost before the care of a very sick patient. So entirely self-absorbed is he with his own self-grandiosity and affairs that he displayed insensitive disregard for a patient's potentially life-threatening situation. Fortunately or perhaps unfortunately for me, I disagreed insisting the implants be replaced because I wanted them to be smaller. I awoke expecting complete resolution only to have him inform me that rather than replace them, he had to remove both and install 2 drains, one in each breast because the infection had done so much damage to both breasts not just the right one and my breast tissue was liquified. The results of that implant extraction left no remaining natural breast tissue along with deeply sunken areoles and deep contracted scarring that more than a half dozen other plastic surgeons I consulted since all rejected me saying they couldn't possibly repair it. The breast repair continues to be an ongoing project as I continue to search for someone skilled enough to help me. The only good news of my experience is I am incredibly fortunate to have found a far superior facial plastic surgeon Dr. Jeffery Spiegel of Boston who redid every aspect of the facial surgery for which I had already paid Maercks including necklift, eyelids, brow and hairline. Dr Spiegel couldn't fix the pinched ear nerve or lost tragus but no matter my face looks so great now people I've known for years didn't recognize me! I feel lucky this most unfortunate series of events with Maercks led me to someone who actually can deliver superior results. Take my experience into consideration if you ever think to do ANY procedure with this person. I ignored the many red flags and let my personal feelings cloud every aspect of my response to the situation. I was overly profuse with my thanks to him for his work and skills because of some personal tragedies I had experienced and blame myself for jumping into such extensive surgery that led to nothing but more grief, heartache and pain. Now that so much time has passed I hope this description is clear enough to help you make an informed decision if this is a person you could trust with your medical care. I wrote a separate review on Dr. Maercks. This review speaks to my overall experience: In choosing a surgeon and technique, I researched surgeons who offered innovative ways to minimize scarring, taking care to keep the aesthetic procedure, aesthetic. Enter Dr. Maercks. I found a few YouTube videos of his detailing the Cold Subfascial technique. His background in art coupled with surgical and medical training added to my interest, so I scheduled a consultation by phone. My entire experience with Dr. Maercks has been punctuated by his incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and thoughful assistant, Obadiah. Obadiah answered every preliminary question I had, and was quick to refer to Dr. Maercks with anything he did not know; he did not pretend to be the expert. We walked through the merits of the Cold Subfascial technique, discussed my goals, and he asked why I was choosing a BA now. I felt he was genuinely evaluating in my candidacy as a patient. I flew into Miami a week later for a physical exam and surgery, and Obadiah had arranged everything with care. He sat by me for nearly every form, every signature, every question. He ensured my designated caretaker was also comfortable, even bringing them a cappuccino! When Dr. Maercks arrived, it felt like a reunion of friends. In a conversational way, he confirmed my medical history in a series of questions, walked me through the technique again, and discussed the actual implant and sizing. We agreed on size, and I gave him liscence to go up or down one size in the OR should he feel one direction or another was more fitting for my frame. I was clearly nervous, but my blood pressure had begun to spike in the waiting room. The surgical team slowed their schedule to give me time to relax, and then I was taken to the OR, where the anesthesiologist actively monitored my pressure. After about 15 min, Dr. Maercks entered and told me that he was not comfortable with my blood pressure, and that we'd have to reschedule the surgery. He said, "I know we're all really excited to do this for you, and you came a long way, but I'm a doctor first." Dr. Maercks got on his cell phone and called personal cardiac physician friends, asking them to come and see me straight away. Then he called Mt. Sinai Hospital directly and told them to prepare for my arrival. I was seen by several physicians and nurses, and every single one of them was impressed by Dr. Maercks' insistance that we not operate. They each expressed that in Miami, so many unscrupulous doctors would have proceeded with the surgery anyway and put my health at risk to not be inconvenienced by a reschedule. One doctor was so impressed, she asked for his name and number to schedule a consultation of her own! I was able to reschedule a couple months later, and I am thrilled with my results and the the Maercks Institute's consistent level of care. I recommend them based on the care they showed me as a full person, not just a cosmetic procedure, and my excellent results. read more

Hey everyone :) I never write reviews, but I am writing one today in regards to a procedure I had with Dr. Rian Maercks. I had been searching for a Doctor FOREVER, who does labia MAJORA surgery as every one does minora. So I am happy to announce that you don't need to look any further because he is literally the most talented artist ever. I have never in my life had such a wonderful experience with a plastic surgeon and I feel like it's my duty to share this information because I know how scary it is when choosing your doctor because you so badly want to make the right choice. Dr maercks is absolutely amazing, I'm the kind of person that panics and has anxiety and I did not experience that in the hands of Dr. Maercks. I got my procedure done this morning and almost cried when I looked at the results with my mirror at the beautiful results. He has changed my self image and I now have more confidence than I ever have in my life. I had done a procedure with another surgeon a couple years ago and had bad results, I was so sad at the money spent but more so just so disappointed it just sucked and that's not a fun thing to go through, so of course I was even more nervous because Dr. Maercks had to fix the other surgeons work as well as what we had initially planned on doing. I decided to visit the Maercks Institute in May 2017 to deal with dark skin under my eyes. I was smitten by Dr. Rian Maercks professionalism and positive approach. He and his team were extremely patient and took the time to answer all my complex questions and accommodate my needs. Dr. Rian performed a procedure called aesthetic facial balancing, which he is famous for, not only in Miami but in NYC as well. Treatment was done without any pain nor bruising. He definitely knows what he is doing. I love his outlook on botox as I'm not a fan of botox treatments myself. Dr. Rian complements your face features by enhancing your natural looks. I came to The Maercks Institute with the hopes of *finally* finding the right surgeon for me. After five previous breast augmentation consultations that were underwhelming, I was on the verge of "giving up" on the idea of having a BA. And then I met Dr. Rian. It all began with my first phone call with Klhoe. I was blown away by her, She listened to my concerns and addressed them. I was reassured that everything would be fine and that it was all about me. My initial reaction was one of skepticism. I thought she would say anything to get me into the office. I can honestly say that Dr. Rian has changed my life for the best with my breast augmentation! After years of being insecure about small breasts I finally decided to have them enhanced but was very keen on avoiding the balloon/overdone look on my chest. I wanted a larger breast since I'm a tall girl with broad shoulders but for it to look natural. That was exactly what I got with Dr. Rian! I have been a patient of Dr. Maercks for the past 4-5 years. Originally, I went to him to replace my 15-year-old breast implants. Thanks to his knowledge and experience, he was able to perform a magnificent, life-saving reconstructive surgery due to my old implants having been ruptured and leaking for years. It was a pretty bad incident which he saved me from! I am so incredibly grateful for his life saving skills, as he is a first-class doctor, while also preforming the most beautiful and perfect (plastic) breast surgery. This year, I had to go back to him as I was involved in a car accident which compromised one of my implants - encapsulation. I had a tummy tuck and breast lift performed by Dr. Maercks in September and I'm extremely happy with the result. At my consultation, he suggested also including liposuction (of ab area and flanks) with fat transfer to my breasts and I'm VERY glad he did. He is a true artist and incredibly-talented surgeon, which can't be said for other plastic surgeons I consulted. My torso looks amazing, even though I am 64 years old. I was somewhat concerned about having this surgery at my age, but he assured me I was a good candidate and he was right. After decades of having the dreaded apple shape, I can't get over how good I look. The only downside has been that it takes me longer to get ready in the morning because of the time spent staring at my awesome body. Do Not go to this doctor!... Dr rian is nightmare in my life He is worse surgeon I ever met. Last year I have surgery with dr rian . I asked him to remove my CC scar and shape up lil my sides (hips) . I don't even know what he did to me I can't recognize my body anymore so many unauthorized procedures.....he removed my skin with out explain anything and put my navel extremely low position my body have bumps and dents and my scar is not even moved is 2 x times bigger .i try to fix this problem but no one can because it's in possible to adjust belly button higher position . I would never recommend him to anyone after my experience.I just want to tell everyone think twice before you choose a doctor because I didn't ...and now I have to leave with this body rest of my life .. Dr. Maercks is truly one of a kind. Although I ended up with one of his "composite" face lifts with eye lifts brow adjustment and facial fat grafting, he did spend a substantial amount of time and energy explaining all of my less invasive and less costly options. He is genuinely interested in the interest and well being of his patients. I felt very confident moving forward with him even though I was nervous to have such an invasive procedure. I have to say that despite looking scary day one the results are truly unbelievable! I felt comfortable going out in public in one week. Amazing Labiaplasty Revision Dr. Maercks is a gifted reconstructive plastic surgeon and a talented artist. I had consulted with him after receiving a Labiaplasty from another surgeon who had removed my labia minora and I was terribly unhappy. I was also interested in tightening my labia majora after childbirth and aging. I had searched all over for an experienced plastic surgeon to perform this procedure and could not find anyone, let alone with his expertise. Dr. Maercks reconstructed my labia minora and majora and performed fat transfer. It came out beautiful. It's amazing I look 18 again. I would not trust anyone but Dr. Maercks to perform a Labiaplasty. I am so happy and I can't thank him enough. Absolutely awful results. $12,000 paid And what's worse, TWICE I went back to their office to get the filler that he put in my face removed and TWICE he made me wait for two hours and then sent me away with nothing fixed, nothing dissolved. His bedside manners with me were absolutely terrible. If you are in any way unhappy with his work, he becomes like a petulant teenager. Angry, dismissive and rude Four years later and my face is still completely swollen and bloated looking. I absolutely avoid Photos. I can't stand how I look. Also, their office promised me $1000 of my money returned to fix their mistake and twice I have contacted them and I have never been refunded At least I should be grateful that he didn't kill me. Where to start... Dr Maercks is an amazing surgeon. From his initial consult to the follow ups he has been amazing. I was originally supposed to have surgery with Dr. Simon but there were alot of things that happened causing me to have a new surgeon which thankfully was Dr. Maercks. Not only did he make me feel comfortable but he gave me the results I had hoped for when I was told it wasn't able to happen. He was able to hide my existing scars without adding any new ones. The original surgeon told me I was going to have achor scars and he was able to avoid that. Dr. Maercks is truly a phenomenal surgeon and would highly recommend him to anyone!!!
