The playgrounds in the city are loads different than the ones in the 'burbs, way more diverse, with many more children running around. This particular playground is located on the southern end of Sara D. Roosevelt Park, in LES. It's a large park with a basketball court and a sizeable area for children of all ages, to play. Despite there being so many children and families present, it did not feel overly packed at all. There are plenty of different sections in which to play. We started with the swings and tire swings. My Little dominated their rope climbing feature. There are plenty of structures on which to climb. Hubby, myself and our daughter, all took advantage of being kids, taking turns pretending we were pirates trying to steal a captain's treasure. It's a perfect place to tucker your kids out. There are plenty of benches so that you can sit and let you kids just run wild. All the children I saw playing, were playing in a kind manner, not being too rough with one another. They event have a sections for smaller children, with supportive swings and structures to walk around and inside. There's also a sandbox feature that I didn't feel too comfortable letting my kiddo play in due to general cleanliness.

This little mini golf course makes it on my list of NYC gems…read more Located on the beautiful Westside Highway on Pier 25, this 18 hole mini golf course offers a low key experience to practice your putting skills. Its' neat design cleverly winds 18 holes within a small space. While the holes are not elaborate designs with windmills, the decor makes it close to a suburban putt putt experience. I received two hole-in-ones but I'd say these are mostly par 2/3. A sign says max four shots. That's relative haha. The restroom is a general public one at the head of the pier. There's a restaurant next to it or a seasonal snack shed. Great outdoor date or family outing!

For starters, it's just a wonderful use of what was dead space underneath the subway overpass. It can be a little noisy, but shade on a hot summer day is pretty clutch. Perhaps it's because my kids are still little, but we get a whole lot of use out of the southern side of the park with the swings, jungle gyms, and splashpad. As it's fairly new (5-6 years old or so?), these things are still state of the art and a lot of fun for the kiddos. We've also had plenty of luck hosting birthday parties there, as it's not nearly as mobbed as Carroll Park a few blocks north. I also look forward to when we can take more advantage of the basketball courts, turf field, and maybe even the skate park on the north side of the space. Really, just an excellent playground to have in the area.

Divided by Nelson St you get a combination of little kids to big kids to adult fun options. The South side has excellent playground equipment that is generally protected from a lot of the direct elements (think rainy day play). Cross over to the North side and you have some turf area for small soccer or similar. Short gated directly next to that there is a 3' mini ramp, rail and box features for the skate rat in you (or your kid). A small "exercise " area divides the skate zone from the half court basketball net. All of the North has a jogging/biking/walking track around the enclosed park. Considering it was a slog to complete and it's proximity to my home I'm loving St. Mary's!

Yet you want the little one to be able to experience the joys of riding. Harmony Park has the normal playground equipment and sand areas. But it also has a wide concrete area that can accommodate many happy children flying like the wind without crowding or head on collisions. A child on a scooter can navigate around the playground equipment without losing speed or endangering children without wheels. The "ride around" space allows for a much more fun time than just scooting back and forth. This is made obvious by the squeals of delight. Never does a gregarious child fail to find some new scooting friends to share the afternoon. For adults, there are numerous benches strategically placed so one can watch their child, regardless of the activity chosen. And joy of joy, the rest rooms are on site. Be aware of the fact that they are locked for the evening relatively early. So don't postpone. Convenience, location, spaciousness and friendly companionship. They're all here for a child's delight.

It's fine for killing time with the kids when I'm visiting friends and family who decided to move here for why I don't possibly know. But I might have to shoot myself if hear another parent yelling out to a kid named Phoenix, Sage, Socrates, Atticus, Cortland, Kale or Jagger. I mean, stop. JUST STOP. 2 stars.
