I never write reviews ever so this is a big deal that I'm taking the time to do this! This was probably one of the worst experiences in eating at a restaurant in my life. I get that it was a busy day for them, but we waited over 45 minutes for our lunch and when we got it, there is no way that you could classify what we got as actual hamburger. I wish I would've taken pictures but I didn't.. It was like a tan color and in no way resembled a hamburger. The texture was terrible and it was probably only 2.5" across. The cheese slice was so much bigger than the meat. We all took one bite and threw the rest away. A total waste of $35! The shakes were decent but not super thick or anything special. I really don't enjoy leaving reviews like this but I do feel like I need to warn others before they eat here. It was really gross and a waste of money and 45 minutes of our day. read more

The family and I were looking for a quick place to eat after visiting the Manti Temple Open House. We've stopped here before and felt like they gave more precedence to the drive-through but wanted to give them another try. We ordered in-store two hot pastrami, two cheeseburgers, two large fry and four drinks. It was super busy at lunch time and there was limited seating, but everyone was working really hard and getting orders through. It did feel like the average age of the employees was 15 but they did a good job. The food was pretty average. The pastrami felt like it was a bit bologna like but I had a good flavor. The cheeseburgers were small, potentially child size, but solid. Both types of sandwiches had this wonderful white sauce that we love that we can only find it certain places in Utah. Fries didn't feel like a large, but we did really like the fry sauce. They had specialty drinks or just regular sodas, but we had to try their Iron Port. It was very root beer like with caramel flavoring. Definitely worth giving that a shot! The decor and styling of this joint is such a highlight! It's so cool to see the history on the walls and to sit in these really cute booths with the traditional red and white. It's definitely a well loved but well maintained building. Their menu signage was kind of all over the place but was ultimately fine. We loved that they had a little swingset/grass area right outside the parking lot which was really sweet. read more

My family and I had just finished a tour of Snow College for my son, and we were famished. The Malt Shop was the perfect oasis to feed our bellies and treat our taste buds. Everything was great-from the service, to the cleanliness of the restaurant to the delicious food. We may have come at a non-peak time (Friday at 4:00) because it was just us and another party in the entire place. I'd imagine that a few hours later in the evening, it was probably hopping! I love the diner décor-everything is Coca Cola themed with vintage trinkets everywhere you look. The menu is great-there's a little something for everyone. And the shakes or malts are fantastic. My wife tells a fun story about when she was attending Snow College several years ago and her car broke down in The Malt Shop's parking lot. She had to leave it overnight until her dad could come the next day to take a look. The manager of the restaurant called her up and offered to help fix the car, which ended up saving her dad a trip and got my wife her car back quickly. Cool guy! read more

We wanted to try this place, and saw that the online closing time was 9pm. We got there at 6:45pm and both doors were locked. There were lights on in the kitchen, but the registers and "lobby" were dark. The couple and another person already in the place had lights over their booths, but otherwise it looked dark. We turned and walked away. Hubby saw one of the staff start towards the door and then stop and watch as we left. I called a few minutes later as we were driving to Mount Pleasant to have a burger at Roger's (which was delish BTW, I will recommend them instead!) and the cheery young person that answered did not leave the phone in any way but assured me that the doors were open and the place was fully lit up. The atmosphere was extremely fun. It had an old-time diner vibe. The food was average. The fries were good. I got a chocolate shake with peanut butter cups and the chocolate from the peanut butter cups tasted very old. The bathroom is on the outside of the restaurant, go around towards the drive-through and you'll find it if you need it. There is a big menu board that doesn't include the shake flavors. Super cute place! We decided to get some shakes! They were all delicious and you can basically make whatever flavor you want. My daughter asked for a Strawberry and Raspberry Cheesecake shake and they did it! I got their Grasshopper and my husband got their Pina Colada shake. They were all delicious and hit the spot! We stumbled in on a senic drive through Utah in the middle of July. The name caught our attention as we had been looking for local small businesses with the hopes of small town flavors! We got them in spades. They had fresh local beef today, we both got the bacon cheese burger. She had curly fries and I had tots, the fry sauce made the sides even better. Both were crispy and hot. I had a chocolate malt that was so thick I could not get it through the straw for 15 mins, it actually frosted the paper cup, on a 95 degree July day. The staff was helpful, cheerful and gracious. The inside was cute, Coca-Cola themed, bright and clean! Highly recommend jumping off the freeway, take the 89 and make a stop. You won't be sorry! read more

Can you PLEASE fix or replace the soft serve machine??? We were visiting from Layton, UT last weekend for a family reunion. We stopped at the Malt Shop Friday night to get a shake. We ordered just 1 shake and it took almost 30 minutes. Yes, it was a Friday night which are typically busier however the backup was due to the ice cream machine. I watched the poor workers as they tried to get shakes made as fast as they could, but the ice cream was coming out of the machine SOOO SLOW that they had no choice but to sit and wait for the cups to fill. I was just about to say never mind and ask for a refund when I saw that they were finally getting to mine, so I waited. Maybe this is a new problem, but considering the name is The Malt Shop, you might want to take a look at the soft serve machine. I doubt we will go back next time we visit. read more

I have to admit to a little bit of bias in my review. My grandparents lived in Ephraim and I grew up visiting them often in their home on Main Street. My great grandpa and my grandma both have their pictures hanging on the walls of the malt shop, so it brings back a lot of great memories. That said, every small town in Sanpete seems to have an establishment like the Malt Shop. Whether it's Roger's in Mt. Pleasant or T-Cee's in Fairview, a good burger and a caramel malt are not hard to come by. There is nothing gourmet about this joint, but there is something familiar and comforting about a small-down diner that consistently delivers exactly what you expect. The burgers are fresh and the fries and fry sauce are great. Prices are low, so order up and don't leave hungry. For the best service, show up a little bit before lunch or come in for a later dinner. It's a small place and when it gets crowded, things slow down a bit. read more

Passing thru for youth football game. Stopped here for lunch with Wife and granddaughter. Older place probably here since the 50's. Decorated in Red, White and Coke memorabilia. Pretty standard menu for drive inn. They also have a nice drive up window. We decided to stay in and eat. I ordered the King Burger. 1/4 Lbs patty with a spam like pastrami slices, cheese, lettuce, pickles, tomato and of course special sauce. Side order of crinkle fries and a Fresh Lime squeeze. Have to say the burger looked just ok. The pastrami looked questionable at best. First bite was a very nice surprise. It all worked! The pastrami was spicy and really added to whole burger. Fresh made and nice and hot. Fries were crunchy, fresh and great with homemade Ray sauce. Fresh lime brought me back to early childhood. Wife had the Fish basket & fries. Served with a big onion ring. 2 large pieces made it very worth the price. Granddaughter had a Cheese burger and curly fries. She loved them. For just a regular burger it looked great. The way she gobbled it down I assume it was tasty too. Everyone was happy. No room for what looked like epic shakes we saw others holding. Will return another time to try them. Disappointing as the food wasn't as good as I remember it being the last time I was here. Understandably it was fairly busy but I had to wait 25 minutes after getting my food for my shake. I had to remind a worker to make it for me while a large group of customers who had ordered after me were all getting their shakes. Got my food quickly but it sat in a to go bag as I had to wait for the shake. When I got home I was very disappointed in the food and could only eat half of it. The fries were undercooked, I don't think I got the proper size shake I originally ordered (not sure didn't check as I was tired of waiting and hungry), and hoped that the bacon cheeseburger would at least be the highlight of the meal to open it up and see that it was so smashed that it looked like it had been crushed. (It was placed at the top of the bag so I believe it was made like this) $15 for a meal I only half ate because it was such poor quality. The night before I got the same burger at the McDonald's down the street that tasted a lot better, wasn't smashed, and half the cost. Hopefully it was just a bad night for the Malt Shop but I don't have the funds to eat out a lot and won't be returning anytime soon. read more

They need something healthier here! The raspberry shake is good, but how about some smoothies?

I've been here several times while passing through this town, however I will never return after my experience today. I came through the drive-thru where they have large windows which make the kitchen area visible. I watched employees make food and shakes with no gloves or masks on. This is normally disturbing, but especially so during this pandemic. In addition, one girl who was making a shake, dumped candy into a customer's shake, and proceeded to reach down with an ungloved hand and eat candy out of the container. I left very upset and disgusted. I hope they require more protective equipment in the future. read more

We stopped by on a busy Saturday evening and they were out of American cheese and French fries since their special was a cheeseburger and fries. We waited an hour to order and get our food and the tater tots were warm but not fully cooked. Both of our shakes were made wrong and when we asked to have one fixed the staff who originally helped us was very nice but the staff member who brought it to us seemed extremely put out. The cheeseburger with substituted Swiss was actually pretty tasty but my husband didn't care for his King burger with lunch meat pastrami. I wouldn't get the fried zucchini again. Once my Nutella cookie dough shake was fixed, it was delicious. I may give them another chance if we were back in town and it wasn't so busy. read more

Thought we would try out this nostalgic ice cream shop for an after dinner treat. Placed our order for a hot fudge sundae and brownie a la mode. Had 3 orders for food come in after us and probably 3 cars in the drive thru. All 3 orders and drive thru came out before our ice cream, after my brother in law finally asked about our orders. 7/3/17 Been here before and was back in town for the Fourth of July. This place was amazing! The slam dunk burger (double patty, fresh bun, fry sauce with veges), curly fries, and a THICK Oreo milkshake. Service was friendly and very prompt (3 young ladies working very hard). Our food came out within 5-10 minutes. Lightning fast for fresh cooked food. Also fry sauce on tap. What's not to love. read more
