Our father had fallen and fractured a hip and was admitted to another rehabilitation center where he did not do well. Sadly, did pass away even after amazing & compassionate care at Riverwalk Village (RW). The facilities are not necessarily top end and are a touch aged, but are very clean, orderly and well maintained. What really differentiated the care he received was the positive patient (&family) centered approach the whole staff maintains. Even after falling into a coma I witnessed staff still addressing my Dad by his name and speaking tenderly with him to check vitals and the like. The staff also did an amazing job of pivoting to a hospice care model with little time to plan and included outreach to a Catholic priest for anointing of the sick/last rights services. RW was recommended to us by our father's care team at his acute care hospital for their top notch wound care. From what we experienced and witnessed, I would highly recommend the facility. Last fall, my…read moremother made the decision with our urging to leave her condo and move to a retirement community. While I had some awareness of the strides that had been made in retirement communities in the past few decades, I did not know what to expect. Like all families we had a budget and with some help were pointed in the direction of a number of retirement communities on the Northside of Indianapolis, Carmel and Westfield. We were fortunate to stumble upon a reasonably priced diamond in the rough, Carmel Senior Living. The community consists of an independent living wing, assisted living wing and memory care wing. All residents are treated with respect and dignity because the people who work there ACTUALLY CARE. From the director Deb Guzman to Leslie who works the front desk to everyone in between. You will like how your your parents are treated. The facility itself is a manageable size, clean, well decorated and well thought out. The residents are kind and outgoing. It is actually when things went wrong for my mother that Carmel Senior Living really showed just how much they offer and just how much they care. Recently my Mother, who lives in independent living, fell and dislocated her shoulder. Appropriate medical professionals were called to the scene and she was taken to the hospital. Deb, Pam and others at Carmel Senior Living helped advise us through a process we knew nothing about. That is post hospital rehabilitation centers, then home health care back while back at Carmel senior Living and how to maximize insurance coverage all along the way. My mother is now back at Carmel Senior Living participating in daily activities along with her rehabilitation. I would recommend you tour Carmel Senior Living and see for yourself. Perhaps you go first and if you like what you see, then bring your parent if you think it's an option. I leave you with this, after we moved my mother in last fall, many of my friends told me, they had moved their parent into a similar facility but they probably waited too long. Most people don't want to admit when they shouldn't live alone anymore. If you are thinking your parent, maybe should not, then it's probably time. I hope this information has been helpful to you. I could say a lot of good things, like I did in my original review...but when food is really really an important part of our lives, especially for seniors, this place is a huge FAIL. When we did our initial visit in Oct/Nov 2025 the meal was very very good. They touted their great chef. This was a big factor for my mom choosing Independence Village of Carmel. This time in life isn't always easy for the elderly and food SHOULDN'T be the problem! Shame on you! In 8 months Storypoint should be able to correct a problem like this. Once she moved in in January 2026, that good chef was long gone or it was a facade they created for mom's visit. I can't tell you how many "chefs" they've gone through just since January 2026 but it's been more than you would ever think could be. It doesn't appear they are hiring "chefs" to make their "chef prepared meals" as their website touts. They are hiring people off the street and trying to make them a chef. Mom pays a pretty penny for living here and can't have consistent good meals?!? My mom is resorting to ordering DoorDash and having to buy more groceries for a wheelchair bound 88 yr old who should be able to rely on good meals from the dining room. Does she get a credit in her rent for this? NO. This lack of consistent, good quality meals is a big problem! And a lot of the elderly can't or don't speak for themselves. So I'm speaking. I'm fed up for my mom and the other residents there. After all the research and comparing places to find the best place for her to call home then having to deal with the subpar dining is just too much. This IS a big deal for the elderly. My mom lived at another community for 2 years that truly had a "chef" who created 3 beautiful meals everyday. AND ALL 3 were included in her rent, unlike Storypoint that only gives 2 meals. RARELY, was there a bad one. I wish she could have stayed there but she needs more physical help than they offered. The 5 other communities we visited covered 3 meals in the cost of their rent. Like I started, I could share a list of things we like about IV of Carmel, specifically Corso Care with Elizabeth and her team (they are excellent!) but the unacceptable dining experience day in and day out, knocks out the rest of the list. If you could make the dining experience as excellent as Elizabeth has with Corso Care you'd redeem yourself and truly set yourself apart from the other communities in the area. Otherwise, I'd think twice about moving here.

We moved my mom from Michigan here in August after my father's sudden passing. My mother wanted to…read moreremain as independent as she could, but if she needed help there is someone around to help. We have found Cumberland Trace to be the perfect place that she now calls home. The staff has been very caring and compassionate. It's comforting to know that someone is around, if she needs help. My mother has found it a wonderful place to make friends, as there are activities that you can join if you would like to. We can't say enough positive things about our experience thus far. Our thanks to all who have helped this be such a wonderful and positive move for our mother.
