I bought an adjustable bed two years ago from Richard at Mattress Outlet and love it. When the remote didn't light up and just seemed dead, I called Richard and he sent Tony out to see what the problem was. Seems the remote had died and I had to order a new one. Then 2 weeks later the new remote lit up but did not raise the bed. Again, I called Richard and Tony again came out and found that the remote had gone out of sync with the bed. Worst customer service I have ever received by a woman who says she's the manager. It's difficult enough running errands with children, and admittedly having children with different needs can complicate that difficulty. Instead of showing my son with autism grace and patience, she continually made comments that she would never let HER child behave that way. Felt as though we went back 60 years .... I'm shocked she didn't suggest he use a different bathroom than the general public. WILL NEVER RETURN! Instead I went to Mattress Land in SLO and received beautiful customer service and actually got three compliments for how well-behaved and sweet our children were. Buyer BEWARE Mattress Outlet post signs stating 30 day guarantee, until you try to use it, I asked the owner to honor there 30 day policy and he said "due to covid no returns" I asked what does covid have to do with the return? where they afraid of infected beds or something else, he just complained about how his cost are going up and he wasn't making any money. Yet, every other mattress store in our area as well as on line offers free returns and honors there guarantees. After our conversation he did mention that If it wasn't covid and he honored the guarantee that there would still be a restocking fee. Word of advise shop around and ask about their return policy and get it in writing. read more

Went to buy 2 twin mattresses, spoke with a gentleman at his desk and he walked us to the mattresses, what I was impressed about was that he started showing us mattresses that were reasonably priced, and worked his way up. When we visited other mattress stores they try to sell you the most expensive mattress and it feels like buying a car with all the pressure and sales tactics. After MANY weeks of mattress shopping, wouldn't you know that nearly the very last place we went to was the very place we should have gone to in the first place. But then, had we gone to this place first, we would missed a very important learning opportunity, that being that there is a vast, and I mean VAST difference in the way they individually do business. Products at all of the different mattress places, such as Christian's Mattress Express and R & R Furniture and Mattress, are pretty standard, and apparently, through some sort of secret cabalistic agreement between SOME mattress manufacturers, some kind of 'fair trade' standard seems to exist. Mattresses, being what they are, a rather slow-moving, non-essential 'luxury' item, sales people run the gamut from hourly sales associates at places like Sears simply mouthing product assets, to outright 'used car saleman' (and women - don't want to be accused of sexism) who will tell you, no, cojole you, telling you anything they think you want to hear. This last observation is based on the fact that, if you have already done extensive research on a given product, and then, when given contrary data, you counter it, these people usually say, "Well...yes, that is what I really menat to say...", or some such nonsense. That being said, my wife had wandered into the Mattress Outlet on Grand Ave. one afternoon, and spoke at length with Trista, who actually seemed to know the product, but refused to cross that ethical boundry into 'used car salesmanship'. In other words, she got a good feeling that this could be the place. The next day, we both went there, and after a little while with Trista AND the owner, whose name escapes me (Richard? George?), we actually, finally made a purchase of a full king bedstead, mattress and end tables...at a very fair price. Amazing, right? But that isn't all of it. Promised delivery was supposed to be this coming Friday, but since all of the items arrived at the store, delivery was promised today, Monday. The truck arrived on time, the 2 gentlemen first disassembled the queen bed in our master and carted all of it over to the guest unit, then they efficiently brought in and assembled our new bed in about 40 minutes!! The younger of the 2 men was obviously the more experienced, but both were very good. Kudos!! We will definitely be referring people to this place! read more

So good, we went back the next day and bought another one. No pressure, just good guidance. I went in looking for a bed in our new Grover Beach house. I described what I sleep on at our other house (a Beautyrest Black), along with what I liked about it, what I didn't, the way I sleep and a few more things. Richard showed me three beds, all reasonably priced and all comfortable. After I laid on them, he asked me a few more questions to help narrow it down. Did he try to upsell me? No, and that was refreshing considering how I was pounced on as soon as I walked into Ashley Furniture down the street. I chose the bed and it was delivered that afternoon. I slept so well that a family member with me decided to go the next day and get another bed for the house. Some other things: Richard measured us for optimum box spring height. Our other bed looks beautiful, but we have to climb up to it a bit. He explained that even though we're tall people, we'd be more comfortable in a lower profile box spring. He told us how to break in the bed, like breaking in a new pair of shoes. I was also happy to support a local family owned business. My experience was fraudulent. I went in to buy a twin mattress. Simple. I was shown a mattress. Apparently the only one they carried. So I bought one. I wasn't told it was a mattress & springs with a 60 pound weight limit. When I discovered what it was (or wasn't), I attempted to return it unopened in the original packaging. Excellent customer service as I visited the store multiple times inching my way toward making final decisions on a queen headboard and a sofa that opens out into a very comfortable queen bed. Delivery was planned for a date and time that fit my schedule. The two gentlemen that handled delivery and set up did a great job. They were very efficient and made sure all wrapping materials were cleaned up. Of special note is the gymnastics they had to perform getting the couch in the front door, around a tight corner and up a thankfully short narrow set of stairs.
