I was here for a conference this past weekend and the facilities were all very well maintained and full stocked throughout the weekend. The building itself was very new and beautifully decorated. Spent a few days out in Iowa and 90% of it was spent at Prairie Meadows (the other 10% at the airport or traveling to and from). Was able to stay a few nights, walk around the entire conference area, ate at the cafe, passed through the casino area, and back to the horse track area for a private party throughout my stay here. CONFERENCE MEETING ROOMS - Spacious and clean, but a little dated compared to the modern lobby area, however it added it's own charm in a certain way. Really liked how open the hallways and rooms were and the multiple entrances and exits. CAFE - Checked in late and was fortunate enough to grab a bite here before it closed for the evening. Ordered a Cajun Chicken Alfredo Pasta with a side of Chicken Noodle Soup and it was big enough to last me two days! Maybe this is me coming from CA, but damn food is cheap in Iowa!! A little on the salty side here but not bad at all! Would definitely order again. CASINO AREA - I am not much of a gambler by any means, but on my short walk passing through to get to the horse tracks, it smelled just like any Vegas Casino (smoke) and sounded just as animated with the slots lighting up on every pull. I would definitely have spent some time here if I had some gambling blood in me. HORSE TRACKS - Ever since I heard about the Del Mar Fairgrounds shooting an injured racehorse right on the tracks on opening day, I haven't been able to look at the sport the same way. In any case, this venue did offer a nice outdoor tented area and trailer directly in front of the tracks, complete with a bar and hor dourves for private parties. My colleague and I both agreed that this was a nice little getaway spot and on the way out, caught a few races and was amused with the clever names the announcer was riffling off. The ENTIRE facility was FREEZING the whole time I was there. We all joked around how we could save the venue thousands of dollars by just turning it up a couple notches. I think my thermostat read 60 when I got to my room. BRRRR!!!!!! One final thing.... the reason why I can't give the 5 stars, was because for whatever reason, those in my group who checked in before and after me all ended up with suites (amongst a group of ~90), while I just ended up with a standard room. RUDE. The room I ended up having was still spacious and the bed was absolutely comfortable, but it was annoying hearing everyone at the event comment on how all the rooms there were suites. NO. WOW... This hotel really exceeded our expectations! High styled, beautifully decorated...All the latest in hotel design! Upon checking in (Nov 2012) we could tell we were in for a treat. We stayed in a King Suite that was like a little apartment. It had a large king bed bedroom and master bath featuring luxury bath products... There was also a guest bathroom. A large living are with sectional sleeper sofa. 2 large plasma tv's, a kitchenette with refrig , gourmet coffee service and microwave. The room also featured ironing board, safe, extra blankets, blow dryer etc... The maid service was excellent as was the front desk. The entire hotel facility was immaculate... Absolutely lovely. The new casino portion of the hotel is equally beautiful.., it transitions into the older casino which is fun and exciting. The older casino will remodel to match the newer over the next 2 years... Stayed here with very young kids. Room was very nice. Stayed above lobby in 2nd floor and never dealt with casino. Towels are nice. Room was spacious and had everything you could ask for including Keurig with four coffee pods. TV was easy to navigate. Liked the extra desk you could pull out. Will stay here again of we get a chance. Parking was great too. read more

We've stayed here multiple times. We get a top floor room facing the track every Fourth of July celebration. It's better than getting stuck in their parking lot for an hour and a half. Rooms are always immaculate and spacious, from a King to Suites, they are updated and quite lovely. There's an indoor salt water pool, vending machines that accept credit/debit cards and smoking rooms are available. Onsite you'll find a Starbuck's, a café, buffet, bars, casino, including poker and black jack. There's horse races during the season and weekend shows at The Finish Line usually live musicians with dancing. We've attended fundraisers in their banquet hall(s), they can adjust the walls to accommodate the space you are anticipating. It's very nice, keep in mind this is a casino, not a ballroom. The grounds are always clean and staff is continuously professional. They offer shuttle services to your parked vehicle or you can opt for valet. Prices are higher (close to double regular rate) on Friday, Saturday and Holiday nights. It's always a relaxing treat to spend a night or three at Prairie Meadows! read more

I do like the video roulette board here, it's not video roulette just a video betting system. Really speeds things up vs a chip table. You know how crazy tables get with ppl covering the whole table. Very nice to have space and play without others getting in the way. This alone gets a star. read more

We decided to visit this horse track during our family trip to Des Moines. It was great to walk outside and see the horses, the jockey's and watch the races. We watched a couple races from outside then moved into the club house (4th floor) where we got a table right at the window level. We ate their clubhouse buffet for dinner. It was resonably priced and the food was good. A good choice for our family of 4 with a couple of picky eaters. The service was good at our table too. We have 2 kids (age 9 and 7). They really liked the experience and the club allowed them into the club house area. read more

I stayed at the Prairie Meadows hotel this week for a conference. I was impressed with how friendly the staff was and how clean the amenities were. While waiting for my uber driver to pick me up and take me to the airport, the bell attendant asked if he could help me and offered me a complementary ride in the shuttle. When we arrived at the airport I accidentally left my phone in the shuttle and didn't realize until I was at the ticket counter. I frantically called the hotel and asked if they could contact the driver and have him look for my phone and bring it back to me. While I was waiting for the hotel front desk to call me back, in walks the bell attendant! I was extremely impressed and so thankful for him bringing my phone back! Thank you to the front desk and bell attendant for being so prompt and responsive! Much appreciated! read more

First visit to Prairie Meadows last night for Tony Bennett. This place is very nice and very clean. Only complaint is that concerts should not be in a flat room with no risers. I was in row 2 but i'm sure others further back had a difficult time seeing for over 100.00 per ticket. read more

I really enjoyed our stay here. Hotel room was clean, looked just like the pictures on line prortray. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The casino is something fun to do without even leaving the hotel. We originally booked a different hotel for our stay, the Valley West Inn in Des Moines. DO NOT STAY THERE. So I needed a hotel last minute. I booked with Hotel Tonight app and it was great. I got a great price and the hotel was perfect for what we wanted. I will stay here again next time I am in Iowa. read more

We stumbled upon this hotel and were VERY impressed with all of the amenities. When we arrived they staff informed us there was only one room left, a king suite. They dropped the price $100 dollars and we promptly booked it. They then gave us complimentary tickets for their own buffet. Food was unbelievable! We spent some time in the casino and won enough to pay for our entire stay. I wish we could have stayed for the horse racing. Every person we ran into at he hotel was very friendly, and kind. Had the Buffet, the wed. prime rib buffet. the quality of food, compared to the price was very good. I think next time we wil just go and have the lunch buffet. great desserts, excellent salad bars, and the food was fresh.if you haven't been there, the buffet is at the front entrance, so you don't have to wander around aimlessly looking for the buffet. read more

I would've loved to have given them 5 stars but didn't due to various aspects that may have had to do with our event planner for our function or PMs event planner. We were recently there for an event with a cash bar... The lines to receive a drink were outrageous. The venue was nice and the food was good. Had to travel for business. Was fortunate enough to be booked here. The facilities are very nicely maintained. The staff is highly professional and very accommodating. One of the rock stars that stands out is Samantha at the front desk of the hotel. Extremely friendly and professional. Went out of her way to ensure that my accommodations were exactly as I liked. Nice facility and staff for events. Very flexible and professional from my initial tour of the location. Clean, modern, and welcoming. A/V system for main ballroom was nice, as was the full production stage. Away from Casino so as not to confuse the event site with the gaming site. Very nice! read more

The clubhouse buffet is by far the worst buffet I have eaten at. For $16 it has a horrible selection and the quality of the food is low. Try somewhere else in the casino. read more

Great as far as casinos go. Love to watch/bet on the horses although I don't really know how to ... and there doesn't seem to be away to find out for the newbies. Most of the staff is friendly. Parking seems to be kind of a pain in the tush however. read more

Horrible service. Security department ruins the whole enterprise . I am so deeply disappointed by this entity. It not only represents a hotel or a casino, but also the whole United States. Had a great time at the casino and afterward stopped at the buffet- I don't ever write reviews however this was horrible, very small selection on salad bar, and the hot food was all very cold and dried out. Told the waitress she informed a manger who did go and check temperatures, however the waitress got lost and the manager had fresh food prepared for some of the items, so that tells me my complaint was very valid however neither of them said a word, nor did the manager come and talk to us. The waitress did ask if we wanted to talk to someone however my thought is we should not be asked a manager should automatically address the complaint. We will not be going back!!!! Granted, it's smoky as heck in there. But I've yet to find a casino that isn't. The buffet is kick-a**, very fresh and tasty, great selection of entrees and several salads to choose from. I win more often on slots here than at any other casino i've ever been to, so that's the main reason for the stars. I live in Washington state, and have a heck of a time walking away with money at the casinos there, but at PM I often win $100 or more. I visit often -- whenever I visit my mother. I like that it is being remodeled and they are venting it well to help clear out smoke, however was NOT happy with the customer service. One waitress pushed passed our group, very rudely, saw another man that worked there roll his eyes as he was walking behind and older person, apparently she walked too slow for him. Another woman working there pushed her way in front of us without an excuse me. Finally, the straw that broke was when a tip was added to my bill that I myself did not put on my receipt.
