Even worse, there are NO in-network providers for most of the specialists that I see, so I don't even have any options to switch to an in-network provider. One would think that being owned by United Healthcare that there would be an abundant number of providers available, but that just is not the case. In other words, this insurance is pretty much useless. And how on Earth can Renown in Reno (and now Carson-Tahoe in Carson City) be out of network? It's simple - claims often get denied or delayed for no reason. There is a chiropractor who comes to our town 2-3 times a month and appears on the in-network providers list, but he does not accept this insurance because none of the claims he submitted were paid. This is a growing trend with insurance companies, and I have experienced this first-hand with another insurance provider, where my out of network claims would be approved until I met my deductible, and then suddenly when the insurance company had to pay a portion of the services provided they were denied. Each claim had to be re-submitted multiple times until they were paid. I have not experienced this with Sierra Health yet, as I am trying to use in-network providers, but with many of the major medical groups and hospitals dropping any plans that are under the parent company6 of United Healthcare over the last few years, and that the DOJ is investigating them for alleged Medicare fraud, you have to wonder just how much longer with their existing providers accept this insurance.
