We had our Wedding Ceremony and Reception at the Merion. The ceremony was held in the Palazzo Ballroom and the Reception was in the Skylight Ballroom. The Merion went above and beyond our expectations. Nicole was our event specialist through the whole process from originally selecting the venue to the final details of the night. The whole process was made effortless with her assistance. The event occurred on a Friday night and everything was flawless. The waitstaff was polite and accommodating in every way. I was a bridesmaid in a wedding here. My friend got married in the downstairs part. Every part of the celebration in which the music wasn't on (most importantly the speeches), you could hear the music from upstairs and the people dancing/stomping. We all felt like the ceiling was going to fall through on to the dance floor! It was such a turn off. The food was nothing special either, I don't have anything to say about it either way - just regular food. On the good side, the outside was pretty and so was the staircase leading upstairs. We took pictures there that came out nicely. Overall, I had a fun night because I was with friends and family but I honestly felt like we were a nuisance to them, which made me just feel bad for the bride and groom because they deserve better. read more

How do I even begin?! My wedding was on Friday, December 8, 2017, and I have been procrastinating writing this review, because every time I sit down to write it, I feel so incredibly overwhelmed with emotion! My wedding day was HANDS DOWN the absolute BEST day of my entire life thus far, and I have THE MERION to thank for this! I worked with ALYSSA Dettorre, and she went ABOVE AND BEYOND to ensure we had the most perfect day possible! From the moment I walked inside to tour the venue I got chills and goosebumps all over: I just KNEW it was special, but I was so afraid it would be too expensive. Then we sat down with Alyssa to go over the menu and pricing, and I was blown away by how affordable it is compared to similar venues, however we still did our due diligence in comparing venues: The Merion won out in every aspect each time! It is simply THE BEST event venue in all of South Jersey and Philadelphia area! They are beyond willing to accommodate your every need and desire, and they really care about making your biggests dreams a reality! They offer SO MUCH! Their cocktail hour menu is INCREDIBLE, their sit down dinner is equally incredible, all of the surprises they include for the bride and groom the day of the wedding...the list just goes on and on and on! I could shout from the mountain tops for the rest of my life how awesome this wedding venue is, and it still wouldn't be enough!!! Do yourself a favor and check this place out, because I promise you won't regret it. Soooooo I have mixed reviews and here is why....... Set Stage: Went for a holiday work party Walk In: AMAZING...did I say AMAZING venue and the bar and appetizers - I mean we are talking a full buffet (note: this is just the drink/appetizer hour) and we had more food during this time than all of use through the ENTIRE night would probably consume....from sushi, to x-lg shrimp, to lobster, to cheese and crackers, to sliced meat, salmon...scallops...OMG! So this was...AMAZING! And we could have realistically stayed here with this food all night... Then the bars closed down, to move us into the "main" event, which was a pre-determined menu with round tables...you know...the usual. So they did a great job in doing the overall but when I come to the main meal....it was "what I expected". The apps were so amazing that I really expected the main course to blow me out of the water....but it did the job. Saying that, I don't know what could have made it better, which is why I give 4 stars because I think that they have a great venue and service, but putting such a GREAT apps starter out and then putting us into a "set" menu was a slight let down.... But I would recommend them. just don't do so much at the beginning that it set up the main course for a "let down"....especially for anyone with a food allergy (like gluten).. Was here for a wedding in the Skylight room and it was beautiful. Staff did a great job being attentive to the guests and the food was pretty good - especially the cocktail hour. I had a few dirty utensils, but as fast as I could bring it up to the staff, it was replaced with a shiny new one with a million apologies. It looks like they are slowing finishing some renovations, and they are doing a great job. The entire place was beautiful. Valet was great and we had no poor experiences - even though some other reviews had me worried! read more

My husband and i attended a wedding here this past weekend and, its your average 'hotel like' venue for a wedding. large area for dancing, small stage for the band, an ok area outside for the ceremony (if weather is permitting). My complaint with this place is the staff! I have NEVER attending a wedding with staff that was as rude as we had at this place. I did wedding photography for years and dealt with weird things but being a guest at a wedding and having the service we had at this place was UNCALLED for. The first thing that startled me was she took my full champagne glass away before i even had a chance to drink, while leaving everyone else's at the table and didn't even give me a second to tell her that i was not finished. When she began to ask us what food we ordered, my husband and i both told her we were vegan and they had knew ahead of time. There were 2 more vegetarians sitting at our table (one who has a dairy allergy and ordered vegan) and when our plates came out, we saw cheese on our plates and asked her if it was dairy and she laughed, thew her hands up and turned around to ignore us. I understand that weddings are stressful situations but in this instance, for someone who has an allergy this was not the way to react. she complained about working so late while we were getting to 'enjoy the saturday night' which also, super unprofessional. My husband and I got married in the Skylight Ballroom on 9/21/19. We couldn't have asked for a better venue. It was simply amazing. The room as beautiful and the staff was so attentive and kind to everyone. The food was amazing, and the Merion even had some surprises for my husband and I. This was a nice touch which really meant a lot to us. All our guests are still raving about how wonderful our wedding was. I was a little nervous that you might be able to hear other events happening in the other ballrooms, but that was not the case at all. It felt like our wedding was the only one going on that night. I am so glad we chose this venue. A HUGE thank you to Stephanie at the Merion for all the hard work she did making our wedding day the best day ever. She is great to work with. This was a beautiful venue for the charity event that we attended. We drove up and were happy to see complimentary valet service (which is great since the parking lot is HUGE and could have been a long walk to get the car), and were greeted politely by both the valets and the doormen. As we walked in to the spacious entryway we were ushered to the right to our event, as there were two wedding receptions there as well that evening. I was amazed how huge this place was! Our event had many different appetizer stations, as well as ample butler passed tasty bites, I especially liked the calamari station, and the butler passed baby lamb chops. The open bar for our event had a NICE selection of booze, and I was very happy that I could have a Grey Goose martini, and champagne with a bit of Chambord later in the evening. The food at our sit down dinner was delicious, however, they served a soup course! And our waitress was sloppy and terrible and actually spilled some soup down my leg as she was scooping it into our bowls, luckily I had a short dress on so it only hit my lower leg. Our experience with The Merion could not have been better! They really know how to wow you on your first visit, but I can attest that the service and end result were just as thoughtful and fabulous. Sue is the greatest! My husband and I live in Oregon, so you can imagine it might have been tough to plan a wedding cross-country. Not with Sue! Sue was gracious in responding quickly and thoughtfully to my many questions. She cared about how our day went and was genuinely happy for us. Towards the end of our planning, I slowed down on asking questions - I felt confident Sue and the Merion staff would have everything under control, and they certainly did! In addition to Sue, we had WONDERFUL experiences working with Rich (banquet manager), Samuel (maitre'd), Debbie (head server), Diane and Kim (pastry chefs), and Cliff (manager). As for the wedding night, the space and evening turned out to be absolutely stunning, and we could not have been happier with the end result. Guests were wowed by the beauty of the space, and the Palace Ballroom was the perfect size for our group. One small thing we noticed the night of was that the chandelier shook slightly from activity in the upstairs ballroom. Our friends who did notice were excited - they said we "were all dancing so hard, we shook the chandelier." :) All of the food was delicious and abundant! Debbie brought us one of each entree on our plates - it was a really thoughtful touch. The following morning, we found the staff had boxed up our forgotten leftovers as well as a tray of dessert! I was a member of a bridal party at this wedding, this place is stunning! The food was delicious, the staff seemed very nice as well. I noticed a slight issue and talked to someone before the bride noticed and they resolved the issue right away. The food was plentiful and delicious, I barely could get thru the desserts. The thing that got me was there was three other weddings going on this day and it didn't feel "personal" to me. It is terribly sad that Nicole has taken the initiative to continue to harass me after our client's event is over. Nicole received the updated timeline for my client's event however she failed to review the details. Nicole was well aware that changes occurred in the timeline as we made changes to it and I called and spoke to her prior to the wedding regarding this. I'm pretty sure when Nicole opened the email Nicole selected the first option for the timeline, rushing to make sure it was in Mike's hands the day of the event. Secondly, I did not request for the staff to arrive at 3:30, if you read the detailed timeline I sent you it stated 4:30 pm. My staff arrived there before I did at 4:30 pm and were able to notify me that we were short a table. The florist and myself arrived at 5 pm and the ceremony was set for 6:30 pm. We had more than enough time to have centerpieces placed and the floral installation placed on the couples table as the reception room was completed by 7:45 pm as we made up the time from the ceremony being delayed 5 to 10 minutes. Once cocktail hour was over the bride and groom were not back from their session with the photographer. Had you been present you would of known that in addition to a room reveal being completed my client wanted photos in the ballroom in her gown. Now what occurred between herself and the photographer are completely out of my hands as you stated in your previous email, "the clients want what they want and we have no control over that." Now for someone who was not present and aware of the circumstances, how can one speak on anything that took place that evening? The bottom line is Nicole, you did not take the initiative to do the simplest thing and that was to simply read the timeline that was forwarded over to you. Our client is fully aware of this situation and witnessed Mike approach myself and other vendors as they were not aware that Mike would be present on the day of. They too in addition to other staff plan to share their experiences with you all. I hope moving forward that you all will learn from this experience. UPDATE*** (It was to my discovery Nicole lied about not receiving the updated timeline for my client's event as I was able to screen shoot the email with the time stamp included to send to her manager. Nicole was able to advise The Merion Staff what color linen was put on each table as provided in my timeline. On the day of the event she lied to myself and the event manager saying that the vendor table was not located on the timeline, once my staff showed her she then stated it was too small to read please keep in mind a page was missing from the one she presented and I opened up a copy on my cell phone to show the revised one.) read more

A little late on this review, but I had my wedding here two years ago and it was such a wonderful experience! Our coordinator was great and everything I wanted they had it ready to go and I felt like I didn't have to worry about anything the day off. I've recently had a bad experience at a different venue for another event, and it made me remember how wonderful my wedding venue was and how much I appreciate being worry-free the day of. A little over a month ago I had the wedding of my dreams. It was the most magical day. Getting ready with my friends all morning, pictures and The Navy Yard and then Merion Caterers for an unforgettable reception. Ladies if you go to The Merion DO NOT upgrade your cake. I paid for a cake and the pastry chef made a cake that was nothing like what I asked for. Even though I provided her specific pictures!! I mean you have to be really bad if you can not replicate a cake from a picture. Now they are only willing to provide me half my money. Here is a letter I sent to my coordinator's supervisor. I can't recommend this place enough. I just needed to write to tell you how amazing Diandra was. I could not have asked for a better experience and I will highly recommend you to everyone I know. Diandra's advice, guidance and professionalism was of the highest quality imaginable. I emailed several times asking questions often times freaking out, but Diandra's response time was almost instant. If she heard a tone of panic in my voice, she would call me instead of emailing and spoke with such a calm and reassuring voice, that I instantly relaxed. Even though it was not her responsibility, she unwrapped all of the packaging off of my centerpieces, ceremony decorations, etc. and displayed them. The most touching moment was when I arrived on my wedding day to see that Diandra coordinated her attire to match my theme. We had our annual luncheon this past weekend at the Merion as we do every year where we bring in over 500 people into the venue. Stephanie is always nice to work with. Every year we set up a display table outside in the lobby as we always have in the past. This year we were told that there is another event being scheduled and we would have to break down the table an hour into our event. About every 15 minutes a staff member stated we had to move it immediately. So management, Vinnie told us we had to move the table out of the way but then told us to shift the display which consisted of tablecloths, picture frames, lights, etc to a smaller table and move it by the coat room. We asked specifically if we move it there then are we able to leave it for the duration of our event, he said yes. About a 1/2 hour later we were told it had to be moved AGAIN at a certain time so we just removed the display altogether. This was EXTREMELY disappointing and very frustrating as I had to keep going to the lobby to reassemble and then removing it altogether. The other party overheard the conversation and said they didn't mind that we had a display in the lobby but Vinnie said it had to removed anyway. There then was a medical emergency that happened with one of the guests and the ambulance had to be called. Well they had to use the side entrance because there were cars parked in front of the door at the Merion. I don't believe there was enough valet staff to handle the crowd size of over 500 guests that were there. They had people leave their cars in the front with their keys and would be moved as they got to it. They then had us announce that guests needed to move their cars or they would get towed. Well if they told guest to park their cars and leave their keys then how would they be able to move them from the front. Now this is where Part 2 of our disappointing and upsetting experience comes again. As our event ended, the staff quickly started to turn over the room for another event that was starting at 4pm. Now why you would have an event end at 3pm and have to set up for another event just an hour afterwards without allowing the first party to break down in a normal paced fashion is beyond me. The Merion tends to overbook events back to back where there is little leeway to properly accommodate their clients and their guests. The staff began to try to move the vendors property in a rude fashion saying they had to move out of the area. As we scrambled to get our things out of the hallway and into peoples cars, one of the staff members started banging his hand on the table saying we had to move because he had to move it and we were in the way. They were very disrespectful at this point moving our property out of the way and made it chaotic. Needless to say we will be considering another venue that will accommodate our needs and appreciate the money we spend there like the other party did. read more

Attended a function there last night. The food was decent, but service was terrible. We were amongst the last table to receive our food, which was okay however we were waiting for the person who was assigning tables to get their food to call us, they never came.... Despite being amongst the last tables (meaning everyone else was served and there was still plenty of food available), you practically had to beg for larger portions (ie- I was cut a tiny sliver of steak, had to ask for another). Later in the evening, I noticed the other side of the room being served cake, however that cake never made it to our table (not sure about anyone else on our side of the room). Lastly, my bartender who was making my cocktail had her fingers all on the top of my straw. If you need to mix a drink, use a straw and then discard and put a fresh straw for the customer, or hold the straw lower instead of contaminating the top where I will be sipping... We were originally intimidated by the fact that there are 4 ballrooms, but the staff assured us that, with their experienced staff and the way they stagger the schedules, we would never even be aware of an other event -- and they were right! We chose the Skylight Ballroom which was beyond beautiful. And the food -- it was both abundant and absolutely delicious. But the best part was our event specialist, Stephanie. She kept in touch with us throughout the planning right up to the day of the wedding, answering every phone call and email promptly. No detail was overlooked. I attended a wedding at the Merion this weekend, though I have never reviewed a venue like this I feel like I have to Yelp about the experience. The venue itself is beautiful, it was large and open and clean, it was well decorated but not overdone. The staff was welcoming and helpful as well. If you are a food lover, you must check this venue out for your special day, I do not think the food can be topped by any other place. What I was truly blown away by the cocktail hour! My friends and I could not stop talking about it all night and all day the next day, we really were like broken records and we kept fighting over what the best part was. In sum, there is almost any kind of food you could imagine laid out for you in the cocktail hour, I'm not exaggerating, from a pizza bar, to a mashed potato station, to pasta, Asian, filet, seafood diavaolo, other steak dishes, lamb (my absolute favorite), a huge raw bar complete with lobster, made to order scallops and crab cakes, and much more!! I have never seen so much food - and everything was delicious! Dinner was a sit down dinner, we were SO full but of course had to try and stuff more in. The dessert of course had to compete with the cocktail hour, this place truly goes all out - they had a milkshake bar (ask nicely and the bartender will add Baileys), milke and cookies, any kind of cake you can think of, peanut butter and jelly, waffles and ice cream... Oh my gosh I'm still full!! The whole experience was just wonderful, it seemed like they really took care of everything. The service was great, and I never stood in line for a drink huge plus in my book! We had a great time dancing, and celebrating the new husband and wife!! Attended a very nice event on the second floor of the catoring place. The food is excellent and the service is exceptional. The restaurant offers valet parking. As people walk in the catoring hall there are greeters directing guests to the proper event. There are always various events that are going on in different areas of the building. Beware of having a wedding at this place. I went to price out the location. The owners take no pride with showing off the rooms. The staff is pressure sales people by putting you in a sales room and going over numbers rather then taking you to a room that you may want to reserve to go over sales figures. They kept on pressuring for a deposit when asking them to do substitutes within the menu they were not willing to budge as there are more up charges then any other place I been to. I recently attended a large event, and my review is very mixed. I knew parking would be an issue, so I arrived one hour before the event so I had no problem with leaving. The venue itself is gorgeous, and the cocktail hour was amazing in terms of the food. The mixed drinks were served in very small glasses that were filled with ice, and I thought $8 per drink was a bit high. I had previously been told to fill up at the cocktail hour because the dinner was just ok, and that was good advice. However, our server was awesome and very attentive. My biggest complaint was the temperature. It was SOOOO hot in the venue! I actually called the venue on the phone during the venue and asked about the air. The person with whom I spoke said that the air was set at 67! With close to 600 people at an event and the temperature outside, I would think the venue management could regulate the temperature a little better. read more

I had my wedding here this past weekend and could not have been happier!!! Stephanie was a pleasure to work with through the whole planning process, as she was very responsive and helpful. I had a huge Indian wedding so used 3 different rooms for different events. We did our ceremony in the skylight room - which was perfect. Lunch in the empire room and reception in the palazzo. They are currently constructing an outside area which looks beautiful - should be done in the next 2 weeks. We used outside caterers so can't say anything about the food but we were given merions desert and it was amazing- they literally filled an entire room (our cocktail area) with desert- so much of it!! The only reason they are getting 4/5 stars is for the following: - the bridal suites are SO small and for us who had to do an outfit change before the reception had to share one tiny suite for both the bride and groom. This was very annoying, and the merion should really upgrade the size/quantity of these suites -don't be mislead by the floor plan like we were- the dimensions don't make sense for a big guest count. I guess it just looked different then when it was actually set up- we had tables that appeared to be further away on the floor plan actually be very close. Also the grooms side seemed very far away from the dance floor from where the bride and groom were sitting, we weren't centralized between the grooms side and brides side. The dance floor space was too large, and I think they should have moved his side closer and cut some of the dance floor. The room is shaped a little weird for a 500 guest count unfortunately. Anyways, besides those two points- everything else was perfect!! Highly recommended, especially now with the new gorgeous outside wedding area!! read more

The Merion gave me a dream wedding, there is no other way to put it. Every aspect of planning my wedding with the staff here was a dream from the moment we called them. My husband and I were looking for a venue that was different and no one else from our area had gotten married. While The Merion was quite a bit further than we originally planned on going, I am so glad we took that chance. Everyone had told us we would have the moment where we just KNEW we found our hall and 15 halls into our search we were starting to think we were going to have to settle - we were wrong. From the minute we walked in the door, we KNEW this was it. The meeting was perfect - for one thing it was the ONLY hall out of the 15 we went to that actually had food for tasting on the initial visit which meant we actually got to see if we were going to like the food before we gave them a cent. They were a bit out of our budget range and worked with us to ensure we would not have to cut a thing from our wedding and still got the full experience the Merion offers. Everytime we needed to meet with them, it was actually something we looked forward to as it was an excuse to go to the hall. The staff responded IMMEDIATELY to each and every phone call or email, the owners knew us by name, they granted every request we had that strayed from their normal menu and each and every guest felt we were absolutely justified in traveling so far to find this gem. Every aspect of the night was perfect thanks to the people at this venue, I could not say enough good things about them. My husband and I have already let everyone in the family know when we start a family, they should plan on traveling here for a Christening and if we have a girl, the Sweet 16 venue is selected! We had the pleasure of hosting my sisters wedding at the Merion. My mom asked me to post her review for her: We all would like to thank you and the entire staff for making Dana & Mike's wedding absolutely "PERFECT". I sincerely mean this...it could not have been any better!!! The Merion is a spectacular venue, which all of our guests could see immediately. The food was plentiful and excellent and all of the guests were amazed each time a waiter came out during the cocktail hour with another wonderful appetizer. Every imaginable alcoholic beverage was made available to our guests during the entire wedding from start to finish. With this particular crowd that was amazing. Of course after the bountiful cocktail hour that you provide everyone thinks they have had the best that you have to offer. However our guests were continually amazed and delighted by the delicious main courses that were served. If that is not enough;a visit to the absolutely splendid and overwhelming dessert buffet and the scrumptious wedding cake was a fairy tale ending for us "sugar junkies". Of course there was also delicious fresh fruit with beautiful presentations available as well. Honestly I saw a number of our more "healthy food eating guests' delighting in the pastries and cakes and the chocolate fountain. A particular highlight for me was to watch Dana and Mike, the bride and groom, dancing under the magnificent skylight dome when it was dark outside. With the lights dimmed in the room, the reflection from the candles illuminating up toward the dome was truly a splendid sight. Both Ellens', myself and the mother of the groom can't stop talking about how absolutely "Perfect" everything turned out. It truly was an affair "fit for royalty" or any superstar celebrity. It certainly amazed the bride and groom and made them feel very special. All of our guests said that it was the absolutely best wedding that they had ever been to!!!! Particular thanks to Sam Catrambone of Center Stage Entertainment for providing the other half of the magic (the music) that made this event so successful. He was fantastic and had everyone up dancing as if we were in a top club in A.C. Too bad you had to leave Sue, we wanted you to stay as our guest and have a blast. you feel like a member of the family, and I hope we can stay in touch. Our daughter got married at The Merion on August 11th. The place was amazing! We had the entrance for pictures (great staircase), the corridor and bar area for the cocktail hour and the ballrooms for the reception. All were clean and nicely decorated. The wedding was supposed to be outside but weather kept us inside. They were ready for this by having both the inside and outside set up and ready to go. You can't say enough about the food. The cocktail hour had everything from Sabrett hot dogs (it's a Jersey thing) to an amazing seafood boat with shrimp, crab legs and lobster tails. There were three choices for dinner but you ordered when you got there, not two weeks in advance like some places. The salmon and filet mignon were absolutely great. And if you love desserts, you couldn't miss. There were waffles and ice cream, a doughnut wall, cakes, cookies and pastries. They even served Sabrett hot dogs for the road. Last but not least was the staff. Stephanie was great and Michael, our maitre d was there until we loaded the car. First class all the way! read more

Had my wedding here in August and it was amazing!! I started out with Kathy as my wedding coordinator and about two months before she was no longer working there so Sue took over for her. Things were a little overlooked but she did her best to pick up the pieces and made my wedding for me, my husband and my guest one that will never be forgotten! Cliff the manager is awesome and works to make everything you want possible. The food was awesome, drinks were great, and staff was impeccable. My guests are still talking about how great my wedding was and the best they have ever attended. The pastry chef did a great job on my cake, (i went with the one that was included in my packag) and it was delicious. Can not say enough good about this place! read more

We had our son Bar Mitzvah there in November 2012. I was very nervous for a few months before the party. Wanted to make sure everything is going to be great. As soon as party started I was feeling a little bit better, but by the middle of the event I just knew they delivered every little bit of what they have promised and maybe even more. We have 3 kids and did a lot off parties, but The Merion definitely is the place for the next even. They overdid every place we have been to so far. The amount and quality of food is above and beyond. So is the bar. Everyone is very professional and extremely pleasant to deal with. And overall the entire place is very celebratory. My husband and I decided that 50 years of marriage warranted a special celebration to share our joy with family and friends who have been with us along the journey. We chose the spectacular Merion based on rave reviews from acquaintances who had attended parties there through the years. From the planning, to the inception, we were treated with such care and respect...we were even surprised with an beautiful Rose ceremony...sparklers and all! The Cocktail Hour was unbelievable...top shelf liquor..any drink requested was made. Even the most discerning family member commented on the variety & quality of hors d'oeuvres served. The magnificent Atrium Ballroom was set up perfectly to accommodate our 125 guests very comfortably for dinner, and I could go on & on about the food & service..all exemplary! We received so many call for days raving about our fabulous 50th. What a beautiful memory.....thank you to everyone at The Merion! I am a Rabbi and officiate at weddings all over New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. I have been to the Merion many times. I have no connection with the management other than having officiated at this venue. I must say they are extremely good, that is, very organized, good service, excellent food. Where do I begin? If I can give The Merion 10 starts, I absolutely would. My wedding was on September 16, 2017 and it was by far the most amazing day/experience of my life. From a little girl, I always said I would get married at Merion, and boy did I make the right decision. My guests are still calling me, raving about my wedding a month later. My wedding coordinator Ariana, made sure everything was absolutely perfect and was very responsive to my non-stop calls and emails. She put my mind at ease each time I spoke to her. The entire staff went above and beyond for us and made us feel like royalty. I asked for water, I had it in my hand a second later, I asked for a cocktail, they brought me five. The amount of food was endless and unbelievably delicious. I did not even get to see half of it. The Palazzo room looked absolutely breathtaking. No detail was overlooked. It was like a dream come true. I would highly recommend the Merion to all !!! You will thank me!!!! read more
