I have been going to this place for many years - both in its current location and the previous one in Dandenong. It may have the odd off night but it's usually great!. We usually go through the week because a Friday or Saturday night are crazy busy. Meals are well prepared and generous in quantity, alcohol and food prices are both decent - you just need to ask if you want spicy is all. Best Mexican on this side of town for sure.

This place has the usual tacos, fajitas, enchiladas, nachos and burritos. It is definitely more of a family restaurant than a dining experience. I ordered the quesadilla without cheese or sour cream (as i'm vegan). The meal was fairly bland and seemed very soggy. I'm not sure if it was microwaved or not. Considering i had no cheese or sour cream, i would have thought i'd have gotten a good serving of guacamole, but i barely got any. Considering i was charged the same price i thought i should have got some extra guac. The margaritas were stock standard mexican frozen margaritas. Again these were pretty disappointing and not sure that there was any tequila in them. However that said, they were very cheap $5.50. The food here isn't healthy. It's cheesy, sour creamy, carby and saucy. It's mass produced and churned out super fast. It's usually accompanied by inauthentic sugary beverages passing for margaritas. And yet... all that cholesterol-filled food really hits the spot. Heck, I'm no food snob. Sometimes all I want is a cheese-filled carb-loaded meal trying to pass itself off as "Mexcian". And on those occasions, you can find me at Taco Bill in Beaconsfield.

What sets Beaconsfield Taco Bill out from all the rest, though, is the service - and I don't mean that at all positively. Recently I went there with a party of four and a baby (we'd booked ahead and made sure they knew we'd be bringing a baby) on a Tuesday night. A sullen teenage girl showed us to a table in the middle of the restaurant, a high traffic area hardly suited for a buggy. It took a full 10 minutes for our drinks orders to be taken, and at least 10 minutes after that before we actually received our drinks. Bizarrely, the delay appeared to be due to the waitress preparing/bringing drinks for the surrounding tables at the same time as ours. Rather than do one table at a time, the waitress carried a laden tray with about 10 different drinks and glasses on it. By that time our party had decided on their food, but our waitress wandered off before we could give her our order. 15 minutes passed unnoticed as we caught up with news, cooed over the baby etc. Eventually, though, we realised that the paltry ramekin of nachos was not going to sustain us the whole night, so we started looking around for someone to take our orders. Minutes passed. Tumbleweed rolled down Princes Highway. Diners at nearby tables exchanged glances with us, "Where on earth ARE these girls?" In order to stave off a mass exodus, my mother-in-law (gawd bless 'er) embarked upon a one-woman search party. She found all of the waitresses merrily standing and chatting, giggling, laughing, having a rare old time. A verbal kick up the arse persuaded our waitress to return and take our orders. We also ordered another round of drinks, and waited 15 minutes for those to arrive with our neighbouring tables'. 40 minutes after ordering, our stodge was thrust upon us - for all but one person, who had to chase theirs up after another 10 minutes. In summary, if Beaconsfield Taco Bell is your only option, don't expect good or timely service.

Alot of little things to take in. Even though nothing was excellent about the Taco, nothing dissapointed me as well. A real mid range item. I will highlight one positive thing though. The controlled heat level, the spice level of the sauces and everything around it, is at a healthy medium level, however you can feel the heat rising up slightly as you go through the taco, but it still remains in the medium area. It never gets too hot or spicy. You have to respect the sauces and the controlled nature of the Taco overall. It knows how to go up to the line but not to cross it. The shop itself is very unassuming - a diamond in the rough. Juanita (or who I assume is Juanita? Should have asked! ... ) was very friendly. She made us feel very welcome and ensured we had everything we needed. We tried the taco mix, pork and chicken tacos. The tortillas were rustic. They come with an array of sides (& plenty of them!) including a pineapple/cucumber salsa, a cabbage slaw, some diced onions, coriander, tomatillo with avocado and chipotle sauce. There was also a couple of Juanita's home made sauces on the table to use. We enjoyed it all! Although quite full we couldn't resist trying the salted caramel Cheezecake. It was really delicious, thick and rich but well balanced with the addition of yoghurt, honey, bitter chocolate and praline served with it. This is a vegan option FYI! You have to follow their Facebook page to get an idea of when they might do that, but it's definitely worth the anticipation. Trying out their newly built wood fire oven, the Al Carbon truck was serving up wood fired, slow roasted to perfection lamb tacos. Yes those same kind of tacos made famous by the previous incarnate La Lupita. Awesome freshly made corn tortillas and simple additions like purple cabbage and pickles. Respadas. It's a finely shaved Mexican snow cone. I've never tried anything like it. Chilli lime salt with agave syrup, Watermelon and Rose and Sweetened condensed milk. Very refreshing on a Summer's eve. Attila tells me this time around they are going Turkish. That's his real cooking passion. Slow roasted lamb, house made bread and tapas style sides, designed to be eaten by hand around a table with good friends. Something great is coming to the inner west. Watch this space.
