The food is good here the service is good. The ambience is like any other Restaurant. I enjoyed my meal is a little pricey for me so I don't go as often as I'd like to. It's close to home. I would give it a four star simply because of the food and service. read more

We have traveled to The Mill a couple of years ago and really enjoyed the Sunday special of chicken dinner. That being said our visit today was a disappointment. We asked bartender for a recommendation so we went with the spicy catfish sandwich. I guess I should have read the menu closer because it's just that. A sandwich. No slaw, no fries, nothing. We had watched a customer next to us and he got a cod sandwich and it had slaw, etc. This was nothing more than US Food truck frozen food. Same with the pickle spears and the clam strips we had as appetizers. I will no longer highly recommend as I have in the past about this place. I now consider it the same as all the rest, an ok place if I'm in the area. I will rave about the restaurants theme, cleanliness, and the bar staff. The bar had a nice selection of beers on tap and a great selection of liquors available. So go for the bar and eat only if you are really hungry. I'm disappointed I didn't ask more questions with ordering. Oh, we did have pickle shots and they served pickle shots with tequila. That was a nice change. read more

What a fun find. We stopped for lunch and saw they had fried chicken as a special. Half chicken and potato salad for $9.95. What a bargain! The chicken was perfectly cooked with a crispy exterior and a moist interior. It was delicious! The potato salad was a bit sweet for us but many people would love it. We had great service, terrific food, and would definitely recommend you stop in for some fine food. read more

We were camping at Rend Lake this past weekend and we like to go to The Mill for a meal. Upon reading the most recent reviews on Google we almost didn't go but I'm glad we didn't pay attention to them. We went Sunday afternoon and the service was fine, not great but definitely not bad. We had their Sunday fried chicken special and the coating was sooo good! Plenty to have leftovers to take home for another meal too. Servers were wearing masks and since it was mid afternoon the distance between customers was sufficient. read more

Awful. Absolutely awful. We got there at 5pm. Received our food at 650pm. When we complained to the manager she could not have possibly cared less. She never apologized and left our table saying, "let me check on something, I'll be right back". She never came back and then avoided us for the next 30 minutes before we finally left. Mix that with the fact that my $32.99 ribeye that I ordered medium rare was cooked medium to medium well..... we'll never be back, and I HIGHLY recommend that you spend your money elsewhere. We ate there last evening. The establishment seemed clean and roomy, and our server was very friendly and nice. She admitted that she was new and had to ask a few questions of others about their wine selection. When the food came out, it was hot. It did take quite a while to get the food which we had already prepared for because we heard it was fresh food. I ordered the grilled pork chop sandwich as one of the other people in our party. The other person's looked very good and he said it was moist andtasted good. Mine was grilled too much on one side and was very dried out and not tender at all. I had asked for medium, and it appeared quite well done. I showed it to our server And she just said I'm sorry I will let them know. There was no offer of any compensation or a different sandwich. So in the future, I will not be eating there when we are camped at the lake. I will stick with Burton's Café or Harbor light in Whittington. I don't think the owners will really care. I think they cater to a local crowd and I don't suppose the loss of a couple of customers will bother them. read more

First time here, stopped on our way home. Everything was great! Started with Boudin balls with Cajun dipping sauce!!! They had special not on menu called the Smothered pig... I it was delicious!! $8.99, large pork loin very tender, mashed potatoes and corn!! Loin and potatoes covered in a mushroom gravy by far great meal! First time here and very impressed. The Boudin balls with Cajun sauce, fried bologna sandwich with cheese waffle fries and the smothered pig wiith corn and mashed taters was all very delicious! I'd give this zero stars if I could. I'm quite a patient customer, especially at non-chain, local-owned restaurants. But tonight we sat and waited for over two hours (closer to three) for food and finally gave up and asked for it to go. The management is doing a horrendous job staffing this place, we were basically warned by the few harried wait staff that the kitchen staff is completely inflexible to customer requests (they actually used the word "mean") and I gather from other reviews on Google that the snail's pace is an ongoing problem on busy nights. They tried to claim on Facebook that it was large groups' faults for not calling ahead (there's no disclaimer on their website or menu for large groups) and that it couldn't be helped because three people were out because of a wedding (uhhh, either close for the night, or take away some tables so the kitchen isn't buried under orders). Great building, terrible management. I won't be back. I've had faster, friendlier service and better food at the Custard Stand in Sesser when the line's been halfway around the block. Or go to Bonnie's in Ina which has way better food...The Mill was pretty average and we had nothing that didn't taste like your usual fried microwaved bar food despite their claims it's "made fresh". Also, most of the orders were missing something, which you'd think they'd get right after almost three hours. read more

This review is for one server in particular not for any other or the food. We walk in and the sign says to find a seat. With six people there are few options so we decide to slide two tables together. The waitress runs over and tells us to not do that we can be served better if the tables are not moved. No one saw how moving the tables together would cause that problem, we planned to move them back when we left. Soon the server was informed by another that it WAS OK to move the tables together. At this point we were settled into having six around a table made for four and did not want to move again. The server gives us a look and walks off. After this greeting the rest of dinner was passible. My cousin said their experience with the other server was good. read more

Yummy is how I will describe EVERYTHING WE GOT from the appetizers to the food! There were 9 of us and we all got appetizers and food! We ordered Jalepeno Poppers, Jalepeno bottle caps, fried cauliflower, fried pickle spears and most couples shared full fried chicken orders and all had left overs! I ordered the BLT sandwich and it was amazing!!!!! I did ask for an additional tomato but The bacon kept falling out! Cooked just right and amazing! We happened on this hidden gem while staying at a nearby RV Park and overall our visit was great!! The fact that it's a repurposed feed mill makes for a neat and unique atmosphere! Our waitress was attentive and friendly right from the start. They are very open about their food being made to order and fresh and based on other reviews we knew their would be a wait but we didn't mind one bit. While this may bother some, we personally appreciate the fact the food is fresh and that they are not trying for a quick turn around, lessening the quality of their food. After all, it gave us time to sit as a family, relax and visit! To me that's what the dine out experience is about! The drinks were cold and it was worth the wait. The kids and I enjoyed a burger and my husband tried the beer battered catfish. I am not a catfish person but I did try my husbands and I was pleasantly surprised! Very good. We tried the Mill restaurant last night and really enjoyed it! First what a cool idea for a restaurant and the owner obviously took a lot of time on design we loved the original hardwood floors and the barn door sliders. Our waitress Hannah was great! Super nice and worked non-stop the entire time we were there we felt bad for her as she seemed to be waiting on the entire restaurant while 2 other girls stood behind a counter wrapping silverware and leaning on the countertop. While the food was really good plan on waiting at least an hour for it. We loved the onion straws, and the bacon cheese waffle fries were really good! Our table had the crawfish boil, mussels and sandwiches all of the food is really good. I'd highly recommend this restaurant and we really hope our waitress got to keep our tips as she's excellent! read more
