He came back a minute later and took my order which included coffee he would make. The waitress came over shortly to check on me saying the coffee was almost done. Great coffee. I had shrimp tacos. Good tacos. Good salsa. The service was outstanding imo. Waitress was outstanding, she was alone and the dining room filled up quickly after I got there. Ate at the bar at the Murphysboro location tonight. The place is nice and the food was alright, but it was so bright in there you almost needed sunglasses. For 7:30 pm on a Friday, that's not what I expected and I'd think not what most people in there would prefer. It's too bad, because the vibe could be perfect for a date night meal. read more

No one mentioned that the kitchen was running behind, and our food ended up taking over an hour to arrive. We asked about it a couple of times and were casually told that they were busy--no apology, no explanation, and no sense of urgency. There were eight of us in total, but two were children (a 3-year-old and an 18-month-old) who didn't even order their own meals. Despite that, a 20% gratuity was automatically added to the bill for a "party of eight or more." Given the poor service and long wait, that didn't sit right. It wasn't just our table either everyone around us seemed to be waiting unusually long for food, and we even saw a few tables receiving discounts for the delays, though nothing was offered to us. Overall, a very disappointing experience. Poor communication, long wait times, and lack of customer care. We won't be returning. read more

A group of my friends and I were on a road trip and we were looking for a place to eat halfway which was Du Quoin. Found the St. Nicholas Brewing Company on Yelp. We called a head for six people at 8:00. When we got there the table was set. Logan really took care of us! We were all hungry so we ordered a "pint of bacon". It was so awesome we ordered another. My group ordered a variety of burgers and a Ruben. Food was excellent we really enjoyed the beers. One of us had a bacon bourbon Old Fashioned that was really good. Are you feeling a theme here? Was genuinely surprised to how good the food was, I had the St. nick sweet and spicy burger which is probably one of the best burgers I have ever had. The service was amazing and I don't think my drink ended up empty once. The brick and mortar atmosphere of this place was a breath of fresh air compared to places trying to be extremely up to date. Wow! We found this gem on our way back from a day trip to St Louis while camping nearby at Rend lake. Atmosphere here was like a big city brewery but nestled in a small town. Lots of smiling faces on the way in. Server (Adam) had an amazing and entertaining attitude. Everything a server should be. We ordered some beers and were delighted that all tested absolutely wonderful and I've had A LOT of beer at a lot of breweries. Food was wonderful. Rueben was a hit. This is my second time visiting St Nicks. Thought I would try a few things before chiming in. First appearance is nice. A beautiful, historic three story brick building just off Main Street serves as a small local brewery and eatery. Decorations are minimal. Lots of bikes and wood (which I believe someone mentioned something about the owner having a passion for bikes). To the right of the entrance you can look in to the actual brewery and the making of the beer through glass windows. There are several high tops you can sit at and eat and drink while watching the magic happen. Theres a large dinning room with old church pews that act as seating for the boothes, followed by a good size bar with a beautiful wood bar and counter that you can belly up to. Just outside they have a large outdoor seating area and small stage, I imagine houses some great local bands on select nights. They offer catering at extremely reasonable prices ($8-20 pp) with a large variety of options available. As well as weekly/ daily specials. There is free Wi-Fi too! Bonus! Now for food and drinks. I enjoyed the cadence porter. I've had a few flights in the past and I wanted to like the stouts and award winning beer, but it just didn't do it for me. But I'm not a big connoisseur, so I would deff recommend you try out their flights to find what works best for you. Food.. I've had the nachos (would pass), fried pickles (good but salty), Mac &Cheese (not a big fan but my daughter loves), Brussels sprouts (very good) sausage pepperoni pizza (hard pass! Crust was hard, over cooked, & slightly burnt ), wedge salad ( slight browning on lettuce edges and was not a fan of the bleu cheese dressing[too sweet and not enough bleu cheese] ) Our server was attentive all the way up until the end where we sat there waiting for our check while she stood at the other side of the restaurant on her phone (ohhh.. The death of all good service! ) I truly think this place has amazing potential! I would love to see more about the history of the building and town! It's got great character! Maybe a few menu tweaks. I do love that bacon is worshipped here! Woot woot! And perhaps if I ever return, I'll have to try the burgers as I'm sure that's probably the thing to order! For southern Illinois, this location is a real gem. So over all the food is pretty good and the beer isn't bad. The decor and ambience are amazing! It is very well decorated incorporating recycled and repurposed items from long ago. However, this place is anything but old old-fashioned. Our large party of eight enjoyed good service. We ranged from low to excellent ratings and overall landed on a four out of five stars given the location. The beers are creative and popular. Including several fruity type beers. My favorite was the dry hopped Dark Ale. Their main entrées are burgers. It's not bad: I would rate three out of five stars for just the burger alone. Do try the potato casserole. It's awesome! Attended brunch for Mother's Day at St. Nicholas Brewing Co. Food was adequate--nothing special but not bad at all. The issue was the charge for our buffets. If you look at the two attached pictures, you see three levels of buffet: $9.99 (regular), $15.99 (with prime rib) and $25.99 (bottomless). When we arrived, we took a look at the buffet and, seeing there was no prime rib, assumed all that was being offered was the $9.99 buffet. However, we were charged $16.99. When speaking with the manager, she explained they "amped" everything up for Mother's Day and said the price was reflected on the special events page. That page, which is also attached, does not list a price. Either the manager is unaware of the advertisements on the webpage or the webpage is outdated and needs an update. No matter what, no one in my seven person party will be returning, as we feel cheated. Merely saying prices will "be different" is ambiguous; that is, they could be higher, or lower. An ambiguous term is always construed against the writer of the document, here the restaurant (if you choose to call it such). At most, we should have been charged $9.99 each. read more

This place is a beauty! I can only hope Du Quoin locals appreciate it. We had an all-too-brief visit on a recent road trip. A converted 19th-century hotel, the space is handsome and airy, not so much trendy as authentic. The beers and food nicely toe the line between interesting and approachable. To small town Main Streets across the country who have been crippled by manufacturing losses, population depletion, and suburbanization, it's wonderful to see efforts like this one to buck the trend. Gathering places like St. Nicholas can't exactly serve as a replacement for factories but they are critical ingredients for community life. read more

Being located in Herrin, we wanted something a little different. I had been to the St. Nicholas Brewing Company before, but only briefly. My husband and I visited this time, and we were thoroughly impressed. I had a light ale that had hints of mango, which tasted great. We both had burgers, and enjoyed them. They were unique for this area, mine being the morning Glory burger and his was the southern (I'm probably messing up the names). Regardless, we were both happy with our choices. The story of this restaurant is also unique, and it's been beautifully renovated. This was well worth the drive, and it's surprising it's hidden within DuQuoin, where honestly there isn't much. read more

The first time we went, the food was shit and they blamed it on a new cook. The beer was also rancid. I am a woman of second chances and we went again today. We got Caesar salads and had to cut up our own lettuce AND the lettuce tasted and smelled like gas. Paid $4 to add shrimp and they were not even seasoned. We got the spiked lemonade and there was hardly any alcohol in it. We were even told the same when we were asked. And we wanted the bottomless mimosas and decided to ask about alcohol content and were told that it was a waste of money (from the waitress) because they supposedly hardly put champagne in it. So, we just got a shot of tequila since there were no other options...and it was WARM. WE HAD TO CHILL THE SHOT IN OUR OWN ICE. Never again. but the waitress with the blonde hair is cool. read more
