I stumbled onto The Mission purely by accident during my day trip to Oxford. I was having a bit of trouble believing that I had stumbled on a Mexican Grill, but of course, I was going to go in and try it. There is a decent amount of room to sit in and have your lunch... or they wrap up your food so well that you can take it with you.
Looking at the menu, it looked very familiar... for those of you who are familiar with Qdoba, Chipotle, or even Benito's Hat, you'll know this menu. So in keeping with what I normally order at Qdoba, I chose the burrito with cilantro rice, pinto beans, Carnitas, lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, and pico de gallo. Beware that some of the toppings do cost extra... I know the cheese and the guacamole are extra, maybe the sour cream as well. In keeping with the other chains, the burritos at The Mission are massive.
I took a seat at the window and was pleasantly surprised to see one of my favourite hot sauces, Cholula! My burrito was good, but only a couple of issues with it... the Carnitas was very dry (but well seasoned) and if it wasn't for the other condiments on the burrito, it may have been a bit painful to eat. And the sour cream, it was not exactly creamy... it wasn't off, maybe it just needed a good stir. I wouldn't say it is my favourite Mexican place here in the UK, but if I had a craving and it was the most convenient to get to, I'd eat there again. read more
