Delightful restaurant featuring breakfast and lunch items with hand scooped ice cream in the evenings. We stopped by to pick up sandwiches on our way to visit the iconic Chimney Rock. The sandwiches were prepared quickly and we enjoyed them at our picnic. The cranberry turkey sandwich should have been on a croissant but perhaps they ran out the day we visited and it had a different bread that was still delicious. Staff is very friendly and helpful. This is such a cute place. The menu isn't very big but it sure made it easy for me to order. Our waitress was great. Very personable. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich and it was very good. The bread was toasted but cool - I did wonder about that. The sweet potato fries were very yummy. Hubby ordered the breakfast burrito and said it was okay. He said it was more potato than anything else. It does say it comes with one egg. I would suggest maybe ordering another egg if that's an option. Came for breakfast with friends who live in the area and this is one of their favorite spots. They both got the eggs Benedict and I got biscuits and gravy (because I never eat this anywhere else but Nebraska, so had to try their version.) We also had some pastries - they looked so delicious! The cafe had recently moved to this location and I loved the homey feel of the place. I was sorry that I wasn't here for their cabbage burgers. The Mixing Bowl Cafe was mentioned in a road trip travel book that I bought hubby for Christmas last year. We finally tried it last weekend. It's a cute little spot! The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Hubby got the biscuits and gravy and I had the all you can eat pancakes. The gravy was thick, creamy and had a lot of sausage. The biscuits were flakey and held up well under the gravy. I was surprised by the hash browns. I usually don't care for them (because of the texture), but these were really good! They were almost like a fried potato and they were perfectly seasoned. My pancakes came with two huge sausage patties. It seems like a lot of restaurants will either give you two links or one patty. So it was nice that they didn't skimp on the meat. LOL! The pancakes were really close to my favorite pancake spot of all time. They were a little sweeter and more "cakey" than I like, but they were still pretty good. I would say they are my 2nd favorite pancake place. read more

Love this place. Great local owners who play special attention to all their food and drinks. The pancakes are by far some of the best I've ever had. Fluffy and slightly sweet. They are also huge and filling so be warned. Their coffee, from drip to specialty, are all good and well done with quality ingredients. I was at the Mixing Bowl on Saturday the 14th and it was a terrible experience! It took over 15 minutes to get our coffee, the table was dirty, and the sweet little waitress had no idea what she was doing! All of this is on the Owner, who was also cooking apparently! We both ordered the Eggs Benedict and waited a considerable time for it to get to the table. I immediately knew something was wrong as the Hollandaise Sauce was a light yellowish green and a little chunky. I stuck the tip if my fork in the sauce and it was very sour and acidic. My friend is very non-confrontational and will eat just about anything. She couldn't even have eaten the sauce. I quietly told the Waitress that we couldn't eat it and said they could reuse our hashbrowns but we would just take a couple of orders of bacon and eggs with toast. She fumbled through getting our orders in on the handheld device and left us! It was about 5 minutes or so and the Owner came runout and yelled at us saying there was nothing wrong with the Eggs Benedict and we were going to pay for those two orders and the new breakfasts we had ordered. I told him we were not and he argued with me for a bit! He left to get our bill and I asked him to have a couple of the other customers taste the sauce, which he refused. We got up and I repeated we were not paying for four breakfasts and asked him to call the Police. I left $18 on the table for our coffees and an $8 tip for our poor untrained Waitress. He came back and said our bill was $10 or something and I showed him the money on the table. He said he was the Owner and I told him he was the worst business man I had ever met and we left. In all of my 40 years of experience in the Hospitality business I have never ever treated a guest like this and I have dealt with some doosies! read more

I had breakfast here twice during a roadtrip through Scottsbluff. I had biscuits and gravy the first day and eggs benedict the second, both times with a regular latte. As a huge fan of REAL biscuits and gravy - i.e., thick sausage gravy and soft, homemade biscuits - I'll say it was the real deal, and good but not great (hence 4 stars). I'm not sure what they could do different, the gravy just lacked a little oomph. I added scrambled eggs and they were fine, just kind of plain. The eggs benedict was also very good, and I had sausage with it. The potato cake it was served on was very good. Anyway, bottom line this is a solid choice for a quality breakfast. This my kind of breakfast joint. They have some classic dishes on the menu, but otherwise they make it their own - that's much appreciated. They offer maple bacon pancakes, Benedicts, and what I got - the loaded biscuits. I'll ding them on the biscuits, they were a little dry and stiff, but the dish overall was particularly good. The service, even when busy, was attentive and polite. The place is small, so keep that in mind when planning to come here. There is outdoor seating, but even so, on a Sunday during the summer we got there at 9:00 and by 10:00 the place had no room left. I will most definitely come back. read more

My wife and I needed to get away for a trip so headed to the Scottsbluff area. We camped at one of the locals and were told the owners favorite is the Mixing Bowl cafe in Gering. So we tried it the first day. We were impressed. It's a great little coffee shop and breakfast/lunch cafe. So good, we ate here several different mornings. And great coffee too. The first day I had an avocado toast sandwich with smoked salmon. One of those "mind if I lick the plate" meals. Very good. My wife had a breakfast burrito with avocado, charitzo and onions that was so big she couldn't finish it. We both could have shared it and probably still had some left. The next day she tried their biscuits and gravy. She was done with it before I finished my eggs Benedict. Speaking of, the ham was closer to bacon size but very good, and the hollandaise was excellent. I enjoyed it. We did go back a third morning and it was as good as the first two. We were visiting from Washington to watch our son play for WN Pioneers baseball team. We passed the cafe a couple of times and decided to look it up on Yelp. From the outside, it looks small and it is, but very cozy and welcoming, kinda like walking into grammas kitchen and everyone's waiting for you. Our first try there was positive, our son got there before us so we didn't have to wait and service was spot on, very hospitable. I had their beef burger (waitress talked me into having 2 patties) with a side of onion rings, and it was one of the best burgers ever ,cooked just right with loads of flavor! The waitress said they were just trying out the onion rings that day to see if they should put in on their menu....it's a keeper!! Fried crispy just right! My son, who had been in Gering since May, said had he known this cafe was there, he would've eaten breakfast there every day!! He loves a good eggs benedict and it didn't disappoint, he just wanted more!! My wife had the avocado toast with homemade guacamole and loved it. Our second try at the cafe, I had the biscuits and gravy , son stuck with his eggs benedict (just one order cause he had a game that day), wife had avocado toast but with a side of one French toast, uh yeah, you cannot eat just one!! She wished she would've ordered just the French toast, especially since it was all-you-can eat. The brioche, a good size,, was toasted just right. Gering has a gem of a cafe in The Mixing Bowl.
