My child started kindergarten at the Carmel location. My child has been crying and not wanting to go to school because of bullying from other children and yelling from the teachers. My child was reading when they left preK and has since significantly regressed. All concerns brought up to the teachers have been ignored. No disciplinary actions have been reported to me, and there are no incident reports being made about injuries. No parents are allowed in the building and the teachers are unable to tell me what kind of " science" they're learning. I have no way to support my student at home without proper communication. What I'm told by my student is that all lessons are done with videos. This is not the Montessori way! 14 + years experience teaching and you don't have curriculum to share? Very odd. read more

Our daughter attended this school for 3.5 years. While the first year was good, we pulled her out due to concerns over her physical, emotional, and academic well-being. She was physically assaulted 3 times during one school year by male classmates, some of her teachers and administrators were unprofessional, and her academic performance was deteriorating. The school was found by the state to be in violation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and we've been made aware of multiple FERPA violations as well. In addition to concerns for her well-being, we had concerns over the school's use of taxpayer funding. They recently settled a lawsuit arising from the ousting of their previous director. The school's insurance paid over $200k, and the school's taxpayer-funded premiums skyrocketed. This information is readily available from Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) requests to the school, the local court, and their insurance provider NMPSIA. The school's HR director installed his daughter as the principal without evidence of a competitive application process. This administrator additionally arranged for the undocumented and uncompensated use of 5 acres of school property, despite the excessive watering costs and farm chemical risks. The administrative assistants were fantastic, but not enough to make up for the school's bigger problems. Our daughter attended this school for over 3 years. She was assaulted multiple times and school administration failed to keep her safe. On one occasion her back was so severely injured she had bruising and has had ongoing pain. Unfortunately, we have heard of a kindergartner needing stitches from the corner of his eye after a bookcases had fallen on him, and another girl who was thrown across the room by a fellow student and was diagnosed with whiplash. I was put into contact with this girl's parents personally. What finally caused us to pull our daughter out of the school in the middle of the year, was when she felt she was being bullied by special education staff. We brought up our concerns with the special education director at the school. The special education director allowed my daughter's SLP to attend the meeting where the SLP thought it was an appropriate time to express her personal opinions on my daughter's dress code conforming appearance. This was the EXACT bullying we were pointing out to be occuring in special education. My daughter's case manager threw away a gift my daughter had given her IN FRONT of my daughter. Really tactless behavior at this school. Staff appeared to have zero self awareness or ability to reflect on how they come across. We filed a complaint (for multiple reasons) with the state. An independent investigator (attorney) found the school in violation of the individuals with disabilities act. They received four violations that are posted on the New Mexico public education department website. In addition, other parents at the school have made us aware and provided us with evidence of other FERPA violations. There are also concerns about how certain administrators are handling public funds regarding the funding of land and excessive water usage with no reportable return on investment. There appears to be a lack of disclosure regarding finances, farming, and so much more. When we brought up concerns about the bullying, we were retaliated against and were able to provide evidence of such. We felt that staff was incredibly manipulative and dishonest. There seems to be desperate attempts to save face at this school and to never take accountability for bad behaviors. Hurtful staff is protected. And unfortunately, we don't think we have seen the action that we believe necessary to resolve these issues from the school board. If you feel that this is not the right place for your child, I would implore you to trust your gut. Our daughter was behind because of her time spent at the school. She is now playing catch up at a school in Rio Rancho and is thriving. I would not recommend this school to anyone. read more

Horrible school. Staff where rude and teachers could hardly teach, they also refused to deal with any bullying. Upon reaching out to a teacher I was shut down with the whole "just ignore it" BS. The teachers here clearly know nothing about how bullying works and continue to think that it's just going to go away if you pretend it doesn't happen. I was bullied my whole middle school years and I was so over teachers doing absolutely nothing. It was a relief when I left this god awful school. If you care about your kids mental health I suggest you don't send them here. read more

Ok this review is not for the elementary school but for the kindergarten school off of San Pedro behind the Midas auto. The teachers in this school are not good. My daughter told me on her first day last week that the teacher yelled at her for not cleaning something up. The other lead teacher was so cold and dismissive of us during our parent teacher conference. Save yourself and your children from this headache. read more

This School is fine, but ot lacks education. Like when your an 8th grader but they teach you 5th grade stuff. The teachers are nice though. I just finished 8th grade Enviornment: The classroom is clean... Let's begin with the basics and close with the I Don't Get It. Sorry, this is an exhaustive review. It's important to carefully describe great schools. 1) This is a charter Montessori school, translating to free, funded by the Albuquerque Public School system, admission is based on a lottery. We submitted an application for our kiddo, she won the lottery, we figure she's our golden ticket. Far as I know, there are only two free Montessori schools in the entire city. (Which begs the I Don't Get It question posted later.) 2) Aside from the Montessori approach, the curriculum focusses on two major education points, especially attuned to skills that American girls in particular absolutely need: science/math, and music. Finishing kindergarten, our daughter was working on long division(!) and regularly playing and even composing her own music. 3) We loved her teacher, Ms Jill. They hire incredible talent, and support that talent. 4) As per Montessori, noted on the website: "The mixed age grouping, which is a cornerstone of the Montessori method, allows ample time for the teachers to address the development of the complete child within each developmental stage. These stages are referred to as the 0-3, 4-6, 6-9, 9-11, and the 11-15 levels at TMES/TMMS/Casita." Hence, your kid will be grouped with other kids older/younger than her/him over the years. 5) Doors. Okay, I'm getting a lil' philosophical, er, symbolic, here, just because. Doors at TMES symbolize two important aspects of the facility. A) This place is locked down, security-wise, meaning parents and caregivers must provide identification prior to their entrance during most hours. An unfortunate reality of the state of the nation, indeed, but reassuring to helicopter 'rents. B) There are three sets of doors that lead to the classrooms, and in the morning, the character and community-minded spirit of the students is on full display. Enter the building with your kid. Chances are good that the doors will be held open by generous, totally humble children who simply feel compelled to hold these doors open. Symbolic, indeed, of the intent of the school. 6) Snarky "I Don't Get It" closure: Thus far, we're loving this school. I do wonder what/why/whose decision led to the most generic school title on the planet. First, it's not the only Montessori elementary school in this town. This school has been great for my daughter. All of the staff and teachers are wonderful. They get plenty of time outside and lots of interaction with different age groups. The strings program is wonderful as music is important to growing brains. read more
