I've been remiss in not writing a review for Hazel Berry at The Mothership. Cutting my hair isn't easy - I have a *lot* of hair and if it isn't textured or thinned out I can be mistaken for a small, brown shrub. Hazel does perfection, making sure that the texturizing is balanced and flattering. Short or long, always a great cut. She's also great at color and accepts my bizarre requests with aplomb. My only worry in recommending her is that she'll get mobbed with appointments making it more difficult for me to schedule. read more

Arelia Sirena was the only stylist available on the short notice that I had before a public event at which I was desperate not to appear as an escaped convict. She is a stylist in training and she's gonna be a rockstar in a few years so get in on her early. Her supervisor, the legendary Emily, confirmed her plan, approved her efforts and made a few final touches that gave me a MUCH needed update. Other details- the on line booking rocks. They have a parking lot. Great location in the center of Spfld's Williamsburg-lite main street. I've been going here for a couple years. I've had two stylists but for my last few cuts I've seen Emily. She does awesome work. I have very long hair and over the past couple appointments she's helped me open up to cutting more off and lightening the load, if you will. Super long straight hair with minimal layers = heavy flat hair. I'm so in love with my recent cut. I described a 70's inspired long shag with curtain bangs but not mullet-y and she absolutely nailed it! Took a bunch of (let's be real) damaged and nasty inches off and gave me that longer version of the Rachel I've been dreaming of. I feel fresh and rejuvenated, not to mention the loads of complements I've gotten on my new style. Plus, the new salon location is SO beautiful. I went to Sarah for the first time to fix a horribly botched hair cut from somewhere else. She actually seemed to really care about helping me. She really listened when I talked about what I didn't like with my current cut and how I wanted to fix it. She was explaining everything the whole time...why she was doing what she was doing, what products she was using and what they do for my hair, etc. I could tell within the first 30 seconds of the cut that she really knew what she was doing. I gave up, you cannot get a decent haircut at an "instant" salon, so I read the reviews and booked an appointment here with Katelyn today. She listened carefully to what I said I wanted and spent time examining my hair before she began, and checked with me during the cut to see what I am comfortable with. The result is that I got exactly what I wanted and I am very pleased! At last, I look like myself again! The only reason I didn't give five stars is because the salon itself lacked a comfortable waiting area and was so minimal in ambience that it looked kind of like the back of a barn.... not that I expect plush accommodations, but it would be nice to have a chair to sit in! I'm a recently retired hairstylist and new to the area. I was in desperate need of a big chop and drove by this place once after dinner - I thought it looked really cute so I scoped them out online. I made an appointment with Sarah for the next day by scheduling online, which was super convenient. when i arrived for my appointment, everyone was very friendly. Sarah did a great job with the consultation and was very attentive and sweet. I brought a photo for reference and she did exactly what I asked for. my haircut is perfect! I have had the worst luck in the past having my hair done, and not getting the result that I wanted. The first time I saw Sarah at the Mothership Salon, I was DESPERATE to get all of the blonde out of my hair, and do my best to get back to my natural hair color, which I had gone 2 different places to complete prior. When we were done, it was the PERFECT shade. No grow out whatsoever, and the blonde was gone. I was so impressed, and so relieved I finally found a hairstylist who listened to exactly what I wanted, and could read my mind to obtain those results. She is so upbeat and made me feel more comfortable than with any other stylist, EVER. She is very personable, and very easy to speak to and get along with. The last couple of times I saw Sarah were to add lowlights just one shade darker than my natural to my hair. Again, I was totally 100% satisfied and in love with the results. I know I can trust her completely, so much so that she was one of the first people I called to make an appointment with for my wedding glam when we set a date. I love the environment that she sets, and each time I sit in her chair I do happy dances. I have recommended Sarah to all of my family in friends looking for hairstylists, and would do the same with anyone. Each time I've visited, every stylist working has been so sweet and friendly. My stylist was the owner Allie. Her consultation was comprehensive and detailed. She was chatty without being overly personal. And the cut/finish looked nice. The proof will be when I attempt to style it myself. The salon itself was small but efficient with an slightly bohemian meets New York loft feel. Parking was plentiful and free. One thing of note, Yelp claims this is a $ salon. I'd say at $50 for a cut and finish, this is more like a $$$ salon. Price was a bit of a shocker. That aside, I'll be back ;-) read more

Where do I begin? I went in with wild, unruly, crispy hair, and came out with soft, beautiful hair! I was so amazed by the transformation that it left me speechless. Katelyn did such a great job. I'm not from the area, so it was hard to find a salon. I chose this one because of the yelp reviews and they have online booking on their website. The online booking works great (make sure to read all of the options because they have combined appointments where you can get dye and haircut). Katelyn explained what she was doing every step and recommend some great products. I wasn't sure about what exactly I wanted except for a few key details and she ran with it. 1. My first attempt was in early Nov. While driving thru town, we spotted this cute salon and it had a "walk ins welcome" sign in the window Sounds good, I need a cut before the holidays. I walk up to the salon and the door is locked tight with a back in 15 note taped to the door. No problem, we can check out Downtown Springfield for a few minutes, so we set out to out the cute 2nd hand shops, the new brewery being built and everything else, all the time keeping an eye on the salon. 45 later minutes we finally spotted someone returning to the shop. I went in and asked if they had any room for a walk in, to which the stylist replied "I'm sorry, were booked for the rest of the day." then after flipping thru the appointment book "we can make you an appointment for next week." to which i had to reply "sorry I'm leaving for Chicago in 2 days", while my inside voice was yelling "NEXT WEEK , are you kidding me. If you booked that far in advance then take down your walk ins welcome sign!" Needless to say I was disappointed. 2. I should have learned the first time. It's now mid Feb. and for the first time in months it looks like I may be in one place for more than a week and my hair is in some serious need of attention. I started looking on Yelp for Salons in the area and The Mothership popped up at the top of the list. I decided to give it one more try, I really liked the look of this place, and it's so close to my house. I checked out their web site and noticed that if you needed a color correction, you needed to schedule a "consultation" first. I don't know if I need a color correction, but I figured a consultation would be great considering that I would be a new client. Also, I didn't want to be the rude client that schedules for a bang trim and needs a 5 hour overhaul. So I called on Monday to request a consultation Apt with Allie the owner. I called mid-morning and no one answered the phone so I left a detailed message....and alas here I am on Friday night and I haven't heard a peep Overall my recommendation to this place is get yourselves a receptionist, if it's happened to me twice, then I'm sure it has happened to other people. Imagine how much money has walked out your door because no one could be bothered to make sure the salon is always staffed during business hours, and that phone calls are returned in a timely manner. read more

My hair is short, turning grey and getting coarse, with new cowlicks no less. I've been to several stylists in the last few years, with only okay results and rising prices. Not wanting to pay good money for a lousy cut I've been wearing a baseball cap (not a good look for me) for the past three months. I came across a woman who had a fabulous cut and color and inquired. She's been going to Mothership for awhile and said everyone was great. With high expectations (but not really high hopes) I booked an appointment with Katelyn. She did not disappoint! She listened to my concerns, really listened, and did a fabulous cut for a very reasonable price. I love their online booking as well, as well as plenty of parking. My husband suggested I check out the Mothership Salon, because it's right down the street. I went in with so many questions and Sarah was so friendly, helpful, and filled with the info I needed to make an educated decision. She never said "it can't be done", she just told me all that would be required to do it. Which I appreciated. Even though I couldn't move forward with the coloring I wanted I asked about a haircut. She fit me in for later in the day. I came back and the experience was wonderful. She cut a foot and a half off. It felt great! And looked adorable after. My Husband says I look like Rachel from Friends. My favorite part is how gentle Sarah was. I have a sensitive scalp and normally I'm wincing when I get my hair done. Sarah was so gentle. She worked through all the knots without tugging my hair. And when she was blow drying when she felt resistance, instead of wrenching my hair, she stopped and worked through it. It was so...I don't even have words. She works part time Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. I'd highly recomend her! read more

My haircut was alright. The problem, as I found out when I received an e-mailed receipt, is that this salon bills credit cards by using a service, called "Square", that gives the salon a discounted transaction fee in exchange for selling your information, including your credit card number, address, email, phone number, employer, and more, to whoever they want. Ask the salon for a copy of Square's privacy policy and see for yourself. When I contacted the salon with my concerns about this breach of privacy the owner Alli, showed no concern. read more
