We selected The Moveable Feast to cater my daughter's Bat Mitzvah in the midst of a global pandemic, and they did an extraordinary job. Why did we choose The Moveable Feast? Well, because our congregation had a small list of approved caterers, and my daughter wanted one thing for the big celebration: a chocolate fountain. As luck would have it, The Moveable Feast has a chocolate fountain front and center on its website, so they were the obvious choice. The only other thing the Bat Mitzvah Girl wanted was bagels and cream cheese, which is her favorite food and pretty much impossible to mess up. Especially when the caterer agrees to source the bagels from Zingerman's Bakehouse. But one needs more for a luncheon than just bagels, cream cheese, and a chocolate fountain. That is where Misty Rose entered the picture. She got what we were going for and helped to round out the rest of the menu. I was told we had to get the whitefish as it was a signature dish of the company, and that was a great call. The pastrami spiced smoked salmon was tasty too. Having grilled vegetables was a fantastic idea as well. If I were to have TMF cater another event I might skip the red pepper hummus, the beet and quinoa salad, and the frittata. I make all of these things at home on the regular, and not to brag, but mine are better. However, those each served a role in the buffet, which on the whole was well received. Where The Moveable Feast shined brightest was its staff. They were extraordinary! Misty for both her flexibility and her patience in dealing with a father who was planning an event at the earliest stages of Omicron. Misty also directed me to A1 Rentals and helped to come up with several floor plans to make a 20' x 40' tent feel like a celebratory space. Plus the event staff were simply heroic, setting up the tent while I was at the ceremony and having everything ready by the time our guests arrived. Everyone who braved traveling to Michigan in December amidst a growing pandemic had a great time. The bartender roaming around pushing mimosas certainly helped. As did the tent heaters, which TMF helped to get back online when one wasn't working. They called up the rental company and made sure A1 brought over a new one. Plus the TMF crew even helped to spread out some straw when the lawn got sloppy thanks to the unexpected ice storm. If you've read down this far, you might be asking yourself, "So why only four stars?" Well, if you recall, the critical components of this event were a chocolate fountain, bagels, and cream cheese. The chocolate fountain was everything the guest of honor had hoped for... and maybe more. But somehow, the caterer forgot to bring the cream cheese. And a bagel without cream cheese is like a hug without the squeeze. I know that's not actually how the line goes. Still... it's close. My personal belief is that a business is best defined by what happens when something goes wrong. In this case, their first offer was to simply not charge me for the food they didn't bring. That was not terribly satisfying. Ultimately, the resolution was a sum that was roughly equivalent to the mimosas which helped make our adult guests happy despite the omission. I appreciated the gesture, but would have preferred an outcome that did not feel as transactional. You know, like a tray of sweets, or an "I'm sorry" cake. I know I'm weird about this, but money feels kinda dirty. Although at some point it's best to just take the offer and move on. Which is exactly what I did. Would I work with The Moveable Feast again? Absolutely! Would I recommend them to anyone who asks? You bet. Would they work with me again? I certainly hope so. We had a tremendous amount of leftovers, which included a few pounds of smoked salmon and multiple pints of whitefish. We were even able to salvage some of the ambrosial nectar from the chocolate fountain. More importantly, thanks to TMF we were able to pull off a successful event in the face of some abysmal conditions. I mean... on top of everything a last minute ice storm? And despite being down a person, they did it all with a smile. Bravo! read more

She has many years of experience and really does well giving suggestions with set up, floor plan and food ideas/ options! She is the real deal. We used her for our wedding at The Historic Blum Barn. A friend of mine invited me to her wedding dinner tasting over the weekend and I have to say I was sincerely impressed. I have to admit that I know very little about pricing or using them as a wedding caterer on the big day but as someone who ate the food and participated in some of the planning I have to give them 5 stars. Some of the best wedding food I've ever eaten, if not the best. We had samples of a number of appetizers (loved the bbq chicken in the waffle cone and these sausage bites wrapped in a tasty dough. The salad was one of the best salads I've ever had, full stop. Served with roasted beets and a delicious mix of greens, cranberries and candied nuts. We tried a number of different chicken, fish, and beef options and were impressed by them all. In particular I loved the crusted walleye and can't wait to eat that at the full dinner at the wedding! After the very generous tasting my friends sat down with Dan and he chatted with them about the details and was very personable and friendly about the whole process. He had a great sense of humor and seemed incredibly flexible about all the details. If I were planning an event of that magnitude I would have no qualms about using them as a caterer for the affair. Misty Rose at the Moveable Feast and her team put together a beautiful dinner for our wedding in July. She spent extra time on the phone with me while I was out of state, made time for us on short notice for a tasting, came out for a venue visit and helped us plan table set up etc so when the actual day came everything was smooth. The food was fabulous; we rarely eat out as we love to cook in our house and our toughest critics were impressed. They accommodated special tweaks and requests, like subbing Kale for romaine and keeping the lemon caper sauce lighter since it was the middle of July and who wants heavy cream when you're dining outside and it's 85? We had 80 guests and opted for the buffet style with 2 entrees and various sides. We had roving apps and plated salads - the people moved quickly through the buffet (they volunteered to do two separate serving areas, so guests were quickly to their seats and eating together) and everyone was offered generous helpings. Her team packed up the leftovers (which we were allowed to keep) with great care and left the venue ABSOLUTELY spotless. The servers were professional, friendly and so hardworking. Over and above moments? They warmed up pizza for the kids. They happily brought out the midnight snack even though it wasn't purchased from them. They loaned us various accents and extras that Misty knew would fit with our venue and graciously allowed us to pick them up very early in the week to cut down on last minute errands. They served our venue people. They kept nut free and vegan meals special to the side for those special guests - without a surcharge. We were quoted double the cost for less service from other local catering companies. This was a wonderful find, they make magic look easy and taste great. This is the second year we have used Movable Feast for our Annual Meeting and our attendees have commented how good the food, professional the staff, efficient layout of the buffet line. We have over 50-70 people each year and they set up several stations to keep the flow. I attended a wedding tonight at Greenmead Historical Park in Livonia, and Moveable Feast catered. One of the employees, Nancy, went above and beyond for me in making sure I had something delicious to eat despite being severely allergic to dairy! I asked about some of the appetizers and Nancy went to find out if they were safe for me. She returned with the proper information, and we went our separate ways. BUT, when another employee brought me a salad, my girl Nancy came by to make sure I knew there was cheese on the salad and she would have the chef make me one that is safe. THEN! NANC CAME THRU AGAIN when I was getting ready to go through the food line, and told me the chef had a separate dinner prepared for me that was safe for me to eat. Moveable Feast catered my brother's wedding this last weekend. The food was amazing. I'm from the Upper Peninsula and consider myself something of a whitefish connoisseur. It's not easy to get the fish fresh enough, or prepare it carefully enough, to really impress me. But Moveable Feast served a baked whitefish that was absolutely perfect. I wouldn't have thought it possible to prepare whitefish that well for a crowd, but I was proved wrong. There was also one of the best vegetarian dishes I've seen on a buffet--a slice of eggplant rolled around a combination of ratatouille and some southwestern-styled rice and beans. The appetizers were also top notch. I loved the shrimp (again, something that so many places do so poorly) with pineapple and the smoked salmon. The service was so good that my husband assumed that it must be the owners of the business who were serving us. But my brother said no, we were dealing with employees, who clearly have the attitude of good owners. Another sign of a great business. None of this would have inspired me to write this yelp review--deserving as they would have been--until my brother told me how incredibly inexpensive the meal was. Half the cost of comparable places. An astonishing bargain considering the quality and variety of food we got. It practically makes me want to move to Ann Arbor just so I can host events and have Moveable Feast cater them. We truly could not have asked for a better caterer for our wedding!!! We worked with Sherry to plan the tasting/menu and day-of setup. Sherry was extremely communicative and had answers to all of our many questions! We set up a tasting with her and were SHOCKED by how delicious all the food was (especially with so many gluten free/vegan options by default and options to satisfy both picky and adventurous eaters!). AND they bring a food truck out to the venue to cook the food fresh on site which is a HUGE PLUS! We also had Moveable Feast provide some gluten free cupcakes, all of our dishes/glassware/silverware, linens, and they even sourced a sweetheart table for us. They were incredibly flexible and accommodating; they traveled an hour to our venue on multiple occasions to figure out how to make a plated dinner work for us (the venue did not have an on-site kitchen). Misty was so nice and helpful in helping us decide our menu, making great menu suggestions while also being very flexible and accommodating with our special requests. We had selected a different caterer (Adeline Leigh) for our wedding reception, but they dropped us without warning just a few weeks before the event. That was the best possible thing that could have happened to us - as it allowed us to find Moveable Feast! I can't even begin to describe how happy I am that we eneded up with Moveable Feast. Kimberly and Dan were helpful, responsive, and friendly from the first phone call through the final event. They did multiple stations for us - including fajitas, Mongolian BBQ, and an indian curry station - all to our specifications. Making arrangements from Africa (where we live) was easy and they helped us relax and feel confident that they would take care of everything just right. On the day of the event, their staff walked around appetizers, managed the bar, and of course cooked up and served spectacular food. The stations looked amazing, and guests were only dismayed when they were so full they couldn't keep trying out all the options. We got endless compliments on how fun and delicious the food was. And even more - the guests couldn't stop talking about how friendly the staff on site were. All smiles all the time, the staff were easygoing, cheerful, and helpful. After the event, when we received our final bill, we were even more pleased to see that not only were there no surprises, it was actually even a bit less than we anticipated (and so affordable! We figured with all these great reviews it would be crazy expensive - but not so!) These guys are one of the top caterers in the Ann Arbor area for a reason - they are professional, friendly, make great food, and are an incredible bargain. I was terribly busy and I'm sure they found me difficult to contact for planning. I reduced the size of the event and changed my bar order a few times. Even so, they were patient and cheerful throughout the planning and during the event. The food was magnificent, and they came in as the most reasonably priced catering quote I got. We chose to have Moveable Feast cater our wedding in Cobblestone Farm in May 2011. It was the first and only caterer we did a taste test with because we knew that food quality and value would be hard to beat. Dan Huntsbarger and staff did an amazing job setting up our venue and serving our guests. The wait staff did a tremendous job and also had a little fun of their own, leaving us a great memento and message via the photobooth we set up. They were happy to help with anything to make our day just that more special (e.g., we booked a party bus to take us bar hopping downtown after the reception, and they worked with my friend to fill up bottles to take some of the leftover beer with us). I thought the food was good when we did the initial taste test at their physical location. I did have some reservations about how that food would turn out at the venue because Dan and team cooked the food out of their truck and brought it in the reception hall. The food turned out FANTASTIC, better than anything we could have hoped for. People were raving about the food throughout the wedding and even the next day - I must have gotten 30 comments about it out of the 90 guests we had. In particular, everyone loved the Tuscan beef tenderloin and potato onion torte, but everything was really good (we also had herb baked chicken, pretzel encrusted walleye, green beans, and ratatouille - all buffet style). We had a guest who has severe allergies to chicken and fish, and Dan made sure that the food prep was handled accordingly. Nothing but GREAT things to say about the food - my uncle made his first visit to the US from the Philippines for our wedding, and he said that it was the best food he had the entire trip (and he was in New York the week before)! We also had a small round cake and 4 different kinds of mini cupcakes through Moveable Feast. I'm not much of cake fan, and it's every few years where I'll find one that I really like. The round cake (lemon cream with raspberry filling) was undoubtedly one of the best I've ever had, and my family and friends who got to try it were also raving about it. I think everyone devoured it, because I didn't see it again after about 15 minutes after the cake cutting. The cupcakes were good as well, and we liked the variety in flavors that we were able to offer our guests. I was really impressed because good cake is not easy to make, especially when we weren't ordering from an actual bakery (I believe they have a pastry chef). We are so happy with Moveable Feast that I am writing this review the day after our wedding - I still have a ton of things to do before we leave for our honeymoon tomorrow, and I wanted to make sure I took care of this to give Dan and team the praise they deserve! read more

Moveable Feast catered my niece's backyard garden wedding reception on 7/19/14, and I can't say enough good things about them. They came ahead of time to plan the set up, and then showed up early to prepare on the day of the wedding. Their crew were all exceptionally helpful and efficient, and the food was wonderful. There were three different food stations, including a carving station with comfort foods, and Asian and Mexican food stations. They were very accommodating and at the outset, told us that anything we needed, just let them know, from lighting the candles, to serving and clean up. They left all the food packaged and refrigerated, and cleaned the wedding reception area before they left. Even though it was a very long day, with them having to carry trays up and down the hill, they were as friendly at the end of the day as at the beginning.
