5 Start Moving lived up to their name. They made a move for us from Harrisonville, MO to Joplin,…read moreMO. They arrived in Harrisonville at the beginning of a half-hour window we'd been given. Derek and Tyler, the two movers, were very pleasant and got the one bedroom apartment loaded in about an hour and it all arrived in Joplin with no breakage or other damage. It was one of the easier moves I've been through.

The problems began with the move to AR. Four men showed up to pack up my stuff in Joplin. They underestimated the amount so had to wait for an additional trailer to pack most of the rest, this caused their truck to have issues climbing hills so it was over 2.5 hours to drive the 1.5 hour trip (I took a load in my truck too). For some reason, they decided to only send three men to unload! So after 12 hours they finally "finished" unloading. 5 Star did cap my rate at the maximum they estimated, but it could have been much less, I believe. The reason for the one star is that because of the delays and length of time for the three men unloading, they weren't able to reassembly the beds and furniture as they included in the estimate, and 50+% of my items are scratched, dented, missing parts, or broken! I would only use this company for local moves...nothing outside of the Joplin metro. Todd J

Worst moving experience of my life. Misquoted grossly, ended up paying about $400 more than quoted…read more Was told I needed 2 guys at $80 an hour for about four hours, at 8:30pm the night before my move I got an EMAIL saying they were sending 3 guys at $120 an hour. My move took from 9:45am- 3pm with those guys. 5 hours. My bed frame and bookshelf are completely broken, and my dresser damaged. Holes in boxes marked fragile. Go with a company that will come give you a free estimate after looking at your home. Don't use these guys. I've moved a lot and this was terrible. Waiting to see how long the claim takes, will update review with how the claims process goes. Edit (5/16): claim submitted on May 11th. Will update when I have more information. Currently sleeping on a mattress on the floor due to having a broken bed. Edit (8/20): They finally got back to me on my claim. Denied. They sent me an addendum to the contract. The fine print says they literally don't cover anything. No wood, no glass, no electronics, no appliances...so your "insured" move is a scam. They also claim to hire veterans, but the guys they sent out to me were most definitely not.

Being a military veteran myself, a moving company that specifically brags about hiring veterans and sending them to help you move seemed like a great idea! I tried to go to their website... my anti-virus software warned me that it was listed as a "compromised" site. Hmmm... I tried calling them... no answer. Hmmm... Then I noticed that Yelp has them as located in... Mexico?? That can't be right, since they are a Denver based moving company! Luckily, I happen to have a bit of knowledge about how the government works, as well as some past experience working with the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC). My good buddies over at Ramblin' Express bus company know all about how much I love filing complaints with the PUC! And a few tow truck companies have encountered some trouble thanks to me as well... So I head over to the PUC website and look up Special Ops Moving's license number... low and behold, it has been REVOKED! It is currently illegal for Special Ops Moving to conduct any business in the state of Colorado! Guess that explains why they don't want to answer their phones, huh?

They never once made me feel rushed or like I was inconveniencing them, and they stayed so positive, kind, and helpful the entire time. They went above and beyond, helping me with every random little thing that came up like finding me a stand on amazon that would fit my tv and giving me opinions on my decor when I needed advice. Just genuinely such nice people and such a great experience. I'm incredibly grateful for how accommodating and helpful they were, especially on such short notice. Would absolutely recommend them to anyone and would use them again in a heartbeat!

They initially could not get the contract correct and it…read morehad conflicting information where we were getting one truck and two movers on one side of the document and two trucks and two movers document and they tried to reassure me that I was actually getting two trucks and four movers and I was trying to clearly communicate that this is a contractual agreement and that there's conflicting information and the contract needs to be correct. It took three attempts before the contract was actually written correct correctly. But that didn't matter because they were supposed to be there between six and 630 on a hot August day and they arrived at about 640 with one truck. I specifically asked if they were full-time workers or hired and they shared with me they were full-time and they also shared that they had their own moving trucks and they actually showed up in a U-Haul truck. Of course at this point when you're ready to move an entire house they kind of have you over a bend and they realize this so I had three movers and one truck and I made a phone call and I talked with the Oklahoma City manager, not the initial person out of Tulsa and he was very like well things happen, you know we're doing our best we have to pivot, blah, blah, blah blah blah, and they can go get another truck you know, U-Haul doesn't open until seven. They had a truck breakdown and they knew they didn't have their own moving truck last week. So again he kept saying well we can go wait at U-Haul but it's gonna slow down your move and we could get started and go ahead and get them going. Yada yada yada basically blew us off so we had one truck and three guys they started and they did move at a fairly consistent, slow pace. So they filled up one truck and if they would've had the second truck there we could've kept going. But what they had to do was they had to take an hour and 25 minutes to go get the second truck and they acted like well. it's really not a big deal but it actually is because if they would've had the second truck, they could've taken their hour lunch and then we could've gotten ahead of the game by 25 extra minutes. They were one supervisor type person and two younger guys, and then the third younger guy came along at 9:15. I called the owner Corey and all I got was things happen and we have to pivot and protocol this and protocol that and protocol this and he said they should communicate with you when the fourth guy is coming and there was no communication and he said well our protocol says this there is no communication. One of the young men dinged our Wall my husband ended up, going to Walmart to get some plaster and fixing it and painting it Someone else broke a lamp. And then one of the gentlemen opened our glass door too hard and the little thing that you slide to keep the glass door open broke. At this point, we just wanted them to leave. We did get a $100 discount for the hole in the wall and they are "ordering a lamp that should be there Tuesday or Wednesday we shall see. I really liked Corey the one from Tulsa, but he's a salesman and just be mindful of that. Jacob in Oklahoma City could give a rats behind. It was a debacle from the start. I had one young man who was dropping the F bomb in my home the other one his pants were literally falling down because he forgot to wear a belt. It just wasn't a great experience at all moving as stressful enough, but they certainly knew they had you over the barrel and when they just act like they don't care and that's my opinion, it makes it even worse. We end up tipping the movers. It's a hot August day over 100° took him a long time but my point being they knew they weren't gonna have two trucks for the contract and I think that's just shady. I would not recommend them based on my experience and my personal opinions .
