I am a nanny of 7 years and have NEVER in my career experience had such a disrespectful, entitled and unprofessional experience with a nannying agency or a family. At first, I had a good experience with Kyla... Until our first zoom interview, was when I first started to notice red flags on the way that she runs her business, as well as her clients absurd expectations. Not only did she flat out tell me "My client won't hire you because you have too many people in your circle during Covid." (I have a total of 7 people in our close circle, which includes my mother, father, son, spouse, brother and in laws.) During our interview I clearly stated who I see, where we go, how we handle COVID and how genuinely careful we are about reducing exposure. After realizing that I am one of the most responsible nanny's she's been able to find, in regards to the virus and my experience, we continued on with our conversation (after she had already underestimated me about not being a good fit for one client in particular) and set up a virtual meeting with the mother. I felt as if the interview went extremely well, until the mother said that my circle was too big and that essentially the exposure between my loved ones and I wouldn't make them feel safe. I was extremely confused by this; because they have a family of 6, get to see their loved ones and the mother even stated having socially distanced drinks with girlfriends outdoors.. and yet their nanny can't do the same, at a MUCH lesser extent of people than them!!!!! I assured her that we hardly even see our family, don't have gatherings and hardly even go to public places during the pandemic. She seemed to really like me and even promoted to set up an in person interview at the end of the call. After the zoom ended, I get a text from Kyla stating this: "I knew nothing about your brother and it is extremely embarrassing to have heard it from my client, without you telling me." First of all, I DID tell her I had a brother over our first interview and since I don't see him, he is not included in my circle of close people. Secondly, my brother is a car salesman, 3 hours away and does not effect my exposure to Covid... Kyla and the mother didn't even bother to ask me for further info, instead they assumed and bashed me about being a liar over text, not even being courteous enough to answer a phone call to talk about it more in depth. This experience made me decide to no longer be a nanny and to never support a business that is ran this way!!! Please don't waste your time with entitled people like this. The money is not worth being undermined of your hard work and dedication. She's the reason I left this career today and it's a shame that someone as kind/loving is no longer willing to help families in the future. read more

I am a parent that sought Kyla last year for potentially finding a nanny. I was conflicted on whether to leave a 2 or 3 star review. I'll explain. Our meeting with Kyla was nice. She was informative, but kind of brutal. I think she's used to "educating" parents about the realities of hiring a nanny (particularly the cost) but she came across as harsh and all-knowing. Based on her info, we decided against a nanny. We figured there was no way we could pay the rates that she said we would HAVE to pay, or no one would answer our job ads. We wanted to be able to continue to save. After starting a PEPS group, and discussing pending child care choices, I found out a few moms had met Kyla and had similar experiences. One of my mom friends (who is a lawyer) nailed it perfectly when she said that she thought Kyla was very biased toward Nannies in the parent, nanny relationship. Which obviously isn't a good thing when one is trying to be the middle man in pairing parents with nannies, especially when the parents are paying the finding fee entirely! But it made sense, because Kyla herself was a nanny. So there's that. I am in the Seattle nanny FB group and I have read her comments over many months which all seem to favor the nanny when any sort of issue gets discussed. At one point, I went back to her website and it does discuss nanny empowerment a lot. So I guess as far as that's concerned, she does a good job empower nannies to try to get as much compensation as possible from their families. As far as consulting, I think she is very biased with her experience. Late last fall, we ended up needing to pull our son from daycare when my husbands job changed. We were left with needing to hire a nanny due to long daycare wait lists. We were able to find an AMAZING nanny through networking and give her, her desired rate. Which was significantly lower than what Kyla told us we'd have to pay. I later found out that in my QA, Magnolia PEPS group, no one was paying their nannies anything close to what Kyla told us we had to offer. And guess what, we all have great nannies, with good wages and everyone is happy and still together nearly a year later. I truly feel one of Kyla's goals is to push the market rate of nannies up My suggestion to parents, network to find a nanny. Mom friends are the best. Kyla will charge you hundreds to post free ads on FB groups (that you can join for free and post yourself). I do think her services could be helpful for families new to seattle, just be ready to pay!!! Update: This is a real review. I am a real parent. read more

We had a terrible experience with the nanny Kyla found for us, and later with Kyla after our nanny quit on us. The nanny worked for us for less than five months, and then, on a Monday night, quit, out of the blue. She had come highly recommended by Kyla, but she was an absolute dud. The nanny did not follow directions and, for example, refused to give our then 8-month old the semi solid foods we asked her to, and boiled my wife's breast milk to heat it up. Our daughter was constantly getting rashes due to our nanny not changing her diaper frequently enough. She also had a strained relationship with our four-year old son. The nanny was not bright, but that was consistent with the nanny candidates Kyla found for us. We were also very disappointed with Kyla's behavior. After our nanny quit (which meant my wife and I each had to take two days off work that week), we desperately tried to find a new nanny, and asked Kyla for help. Kyla refused, and instead suggested we reach out to temp agencies. We ultimately did, and ended up finding a fabulous nanny through Annie's Nannies. The moral of the story is you get what you pay for, and you don't pay Kyla, relatively speaking, a lot compared to the other far more reputable nanny placement services in Seattle. We highly regret ever working with Kyla - it was a terrible experience. read more

I had very high hopes after reading Kyla's yelp reviews. I contacted Kyla for a quote, and after she quoted me $245 I met with her to discuss our nanny needs. We supplied Kyla all the relevant info, and when we received her invoice for $245 we paid it right away through PayPal. Kyla then sent us her contract to review and we were surprised. In the contract, Kyla required a fee to guarantee the nanny she would place with us. The cheapest fee was $600 for a 60 day guarantee that she would help replace the nanny. We tried negotiating her terms by asking for a $0 30 day guarantee (a standard across almost any industry) and she declined. We asked for an option without a guarantee for $0 . She again declined. As we were not willing to pay an additional $600 (grand total of $845), I asked that she refund us our money. Kyla tried very hard to refuse the refund, even going so far as to say she had a $100/hour rate that had exhausted our money so she was unable to refund us. What I discovered she had done for this $100/hour fee was to copy a short, standard nanny ad to the Facebook page 405/Eastside Area Nanny Parent Connection. Anyone can request to join the page and place their own ad for free here. Thank goodness for PayPal. They recognized this bait and switch for what it was, and refunded us our money. My advice is expect to pay at least $845 for this service or use Facebook and care.com to hire a nanny like we did for a whole lot less. read more

As a parent, I've considered working with Kyla since her fees are lower than traditional agencies. However you get what you pay for. Even though her fee is 100% paid by the families, she's very much a nanny advocate and pushes high rates, which probably explains why the majority of her 5-star yelp reviews are from nannies. If you're starting from zero, don't want to do any of the leg work and have a healthy budget, she's knowledgeable and can guide you through the process (but don't expect her to be a balanced intermediary). But I was a bit put off by her attitude. I have no doubt that some parents may need more hand holding than others, but I didn't like her way of assuming that *all* parents are clueless and that she had to go on some sort of crusade to educate us idiot parents. Also, I did not like that she does not work with nannies who are mothers. Yes you read that right... she won't place a nanny who happens to have children (even if they don't bring them to work). She explained to us that moms do need to take time off work when their kids are sick, which does not make them reliable nannies. Turns out I would actually be happy to support a fellow working mom, and I did not appreciate that Kyla would shamelessly support the false and outdated narrative that working moms = bad employees. read more
