I was looking for a home birth. I did have to transfer to the hospital but I believe there was no one to blame for that. my daughter had a very round and big solid head when she was born and I am a very petite person. I head a very long labor and I needed to be transferred to hospital. it was my worst nightmare but... It was all ok! I was able to give birth naturally and my daughters vital signs were strong the whole time which was the reason the hospital let me keep trying. Here's the thing.. the hospital and I usually do not share similar views but Sandra was there for me. I was prepared and had made a list of things I did not wish to do just in case I went to the hospital. Sandra made sure of it for me. This was a huge relief because it let me focus on the incredible journey of labor. It also made me feel like my partner and I weren't alone on our journey and someone was standing behind our decisions. All the way through my pregnancy, even when I was being a difficult pregnant woman with raging hormones, Sandra had my back. Maybe her views are different than mine, but I would have never known. I did my research and made my own decisions and she respected them. If I was missing something and it needed to be brought to my attention she did just that but in a loving way that made me open to hearing her out. I want to say thank you to Sandra, from the bottom of my heart. In the medical freedom movement it's important to have strong women like you who help support and empower moms! We are forever grateful. I now have a beautiful healthy (almost) 3 year old... and it wouldn't have happened had it not started with a healthy pregnancy. I delivered three of my four children with Sandra, one in the Salado center and two at Round Rock. After a difficult delivery with my first child at another center in NC, I interviewed several midwives and all birth centers in the Austin and surrounding area. Choosing The Natural Birthing Center above all others was a no-brainer! Not only did Sandra come with impeccable credentials, but right away I was made to feel at ease and confident in my body's ability to carry out a successful pregnancy and delivery. We delivered our daughter in July 2016. Sandra was able to quickly and successfully maneuver my body to assist the delivery when the baby was not perfectly positioned and became stuck. When our son was born not quite two years later, she kept a cool-head delivering my 10 lb baby who had his cord wrapped around his neck and was not breathing immediately. For our fourth child, she counseled me through various health concerns I had and made sure I received the proper supplementary care with a high-risk pregnancy specialist. She worked in conjunction with all my other care providers to ensure that there was little to no risk to me or my baby if we continued care with her at the birth center. She also provides the post-partum care for the mother and the baby, which meant I could be at home recovering peacefully with my baby 24 hrs after delivery instead of getting ourselves packed up and off to the doctor. I had a home birth in California and loved the experience. After moving home to Texas, I knew that was the way I'd go for my second. I found Sandra through a suggestion from another mom on a fb page. I loved Sandra's calm and assuring demeanor when we met, as well as her many years of experience both in and out of the hospital. She was extremely accommodating as I had a very difficult schedule and live a ways out of the city. I also had the pleasure of seeing her student midwife, Nikki, who was thorough and very warm-hearted. Together we all sat for over an hour at each appointment talking, getting to know each other and preparing for birth. They brought me a loose leaf herbal pregnancy tea that they make. They lent me many videos to watch relating to birth and babies, provided important reading material, sent me to a birthing class and always listened to all of my concerns very carefully. At the birth they were very calm and reassuring. When things didn't seem to be progressing and I was struggling greatly, Sandra took charge to get me to a better place mentally, something I desperately needed. Brittany, another student midwife and doula whom I adore, sat in front of me, talking me through each contraction, my husband was at my back and Nikki and Sandra at my feet using pressure points. Within an hour we had a baby and I have no doubt in my mind that all their dedication helped calm me and allow me to open up for the birth. I am a grandmother who has just witnessed the birth of my granddaughter under the care of Sandra. Let me just say that as an older woman who had children in a hospital setting, I didn't know a lot about midwives, so I was a little scared when my son told me he and my daughter in law were going to a midwife. I met Sandra and was impressed immediately. She is so thorough and professional yet so personal in her care. The best thing about Sandra and her doula, Anita, is that these are faithful, God loving women and are blessed by God in their work. During the birth of my granddaughter, these women prayed out loud for the birth and my daughter in law. How could this birth not be blessed with the heart and faith of these wonderful women! They do what they do in the honor and glory of God! The facility is awesome and geared for an amazing birth experience. The after care is amazing! They do a home visit and check out the mom and baby. Sandra has attended 6 of my 11 births (all 6 being home birth VBACs)- meaning she has helped welcome over half our children into the world. Her knowledge of birth, the woman's body, holistic medicine, and traditional medicine makes her an incredible well-rounded midwife. However, her instinct is something that cannot be bought or taught. Sandra's instinct is what makes her an outstanding midwife. From prenatals to early morning "come right now!" births, Sandra is always professional, gentle, and easy to communicate with. She has always informed me, in advance, of what to expect during recommended procedures, but has also equally respected my right to decline. There has never been a forced cervical check or procedure in all my years as a patient...which is an immense blessing when compared to our previous obstetrical experiences. 1st time with Natural Birthing Center with my 6th baby and had a home birth. Such genuinely compasionate women that carry not only such a depth knowledge of pregnancy, health, babies and birthing, but also carry such a peace and patience that soothes the soul. By far my favorite experience this 6th go around in my 10 years of birth center and midwifes and having babies naturally. Extremely professional and knowledgable with obvious years of experience, yet as caring and gentle as a mother. All of those qualities were so important for me and it made for a fun pregnancy with these women. Another bonus that is they came to my house for 95% of my prenatal care and the birth as well. Sandra and Anita are such a blessing to our tiny family! They are so educated and make you feel like your a super woman! We gave birth to our fist baby naturally in the birthing tub and it was amazing. Just when I thought I could not do it the powered me through! They are so so gentle with the baby and Sandra has been available any time of the day with my random text questions about pregnancy and now newborn stuff! I would not trust my baby and pregnancy with just anyone and as soon as I walked in the door to meet Sandra she hugged me like family! My first child was born in a California hospital and I had a great experience. When I discovered the likelihood of something similar was nil for my second after our move I decided to look at other options. A friend mentioned her friend had a baby with a birthing center in Salado and that's when I did a specific search for them. I was already five months plus along when my husband and I found and decided to go with the Natural Birthing Center. We intended on a birth center birth but after a while decided to go with a home birth. I was so happy to have gone that direction. All the ladies were great and helpful. I am a very young and healthy first time mom so I was a bit worried about a natural birth during my pregnancy when I found out about some personal health concerns, but Sandra helped me get through them naturally and not have to give up my dream of a natural out of hospital birth! Sandra and staff are amazing. We relocated to the area fairly late in pregnancy, and Sandra provided care far superior to other doctors my wife had seen.
