The Nest provided a safe, comfortable space for our mother who was both nonverbal and nonmobile due to Parkinson's Dementia. The staff was consistent in her care and showing her kindness and respect. We always felt comfortable visiting and were given space and time to spend together. In spite of personal, family dynamics, both Michelle and her staff were very communicative, optimizing the quality of care not only given but actually received. On our mother's final day, we were respectively given needed information as well and time and space to spend this final time together. read more

Today is the year and a half anniversary of my Mother's passing and to truly honor her I felt compelled to write this review. I chose Michelle and the Nest due to her years of experience and expressions of the caring environment that would be provided. Unfortunately, none of it was true and in fact, there was lie after lie told to me about my Mother's care. Michelle moved my Mother's from one home, to another, changing rooms and not accounting for where her belongings were. After a long conversation with Michelle where she apologized profusely, false promises were made as Mom was moved again without prior notice or permission. In addition, all the talk of pleasurable things that would be provided were all unfulfilled. At one visit, I witnessed a resident crying and begging to call her daughter and the caretaker just belittled and ignored her. Michelle claims that it is the "highest honor" that families of residents choose her for the final destination of their loved ones, and that she would be fully available during that time. Before my Mother passed, Michelle did not contact us but a caretaker did and at the time of death, she and Hershey stayed in their office as if it were just another day at the office. I have since met two other families that had horrific experiences at the Nest, as well. Fortunately, for them, they moved their loved ones out before their time of passing. read more

My mother (of blessed memory) lived at The Nest for 3.5 years. She had advanced Parkinson's. The Nest took wonderful care of her. We are so grateful for Michelle and Hershey for providing our mom with loving, personalized care since 2021. They really do care for your loved one at The Nest. At one point we considered other more expensive large "corporate" senior nursing care facilities, but even those other facilities costing many thousands more did not offer the personalized, round-the-clock supervision. Instead those facilities tried to sell us on things like "artificial intelligence" cameras that could detect if your loved one fell out of bed and broke their neck. No thanks. In my opinion The Nest is underpriced. Generally this type of senior care is expensive because your loved one needs (and deserves) a high level of care, especially when your loved one cannot take care of themselves (bathroom, washing, etc.). What an incredible place! We searched for a suitable, professional and hopefully loving place for our mother when her dementia advanced to a stage where her previous facility was no longer able to care for her at the level we had hoped. After interviewing several places, we placed her with the Nest, and my siblings and I could not be happier! The owners, Michelle and Hershey, run such a professional, loving place. Our mother has been there for over 3 years now, and we feel so confident in the care they provide...we couldn't possibly ask for a better situation. Our primary caregivers, Jorge and Rosa, are so amazing, so affectionate and knowledgeable, and always show a level of patience that always amazes us. This, despite the demands of caring for someone who has difficulty moving, caring for herself and has the typical mood swings associated with dementia. I cannot emphasize enough how The Nest has given us the level of relief that every family in this situation should have. It's a terrible, terrible disease, but we know that she could not be cared for any better than she is. read more

"The Nest"... sounds all protective and sheltering, right? Weeeelll.... Here's the deal... taking care of someone's aged parent is difficult. If you run one of these facilities you won't 100% please the people who have entrusted you with the care and safety of their mom or dad. But I think you should do better than this. Did The Nest have some five-star moments? Briefly. Did they have some one-star moments? Oh, yes. Michelle, the owner of The Nest, plays a lot of games, in my opinion... the reality of how many staff members are actually on the premises, the reasons why decisions were made regarding meds or not having promised activities. Also, Michelle has more than one "senior care facility" and you can't help but get the feeling that she moves the staff and the various residents to wherever it helps HER the most... and I don't think it was always what was best for my mother-in-law. And, from what I can tell, other people who had their parents at The Nest agreed. Did it make sense to force my mother-in-law (Joan) out of one care facility and into another that was as much money but in a crappier neighborhood, a crappier house and into a new, strange environment? I think there were some valid reasons... but mostly a lot of self-serving shenanigans. I've waited over a year to write this review... it's such an emotionally charged situation when you are losing a loved one to Alzheimer's. I've waited for the initial anger to subside because I wanted to be clear about what I was angry about. And it's STILL hard to determine what the issues are and what reasonable expectations you should have regarding the care of your parent. We eventually removed Joan (all three daughters were in agreement) from the other care facility that Michelle runs (on Morrison St in Encino) and put her in the Sunrise Care facility in Studio city. My mother-in-law recently passed away after spending over a year at Sunrise. Now, please understand that Joan had Alzheimer's and to compare her last year of life with the year before is difficult... so I wouldn't want to draw unfair comparisons between the care of these different facilities. But we were happier with Sunrise than we were with The Nest... and Sunrise was not perfect either. This review is for The Nest on Hayvenhurst in Encino... not for The Nest on 15460 Morrison St....though, as far as I know, they are both owned by Michelle. As far as the activities The Nest offered... not all of them materialized. To the contrary, we felt that Michelle was strongly suggesting that we needed to hire on additional caregivers if we wanted the level of care that we were under the impression was already part of the deal. From there, it occurred to us that after strongly suggesting the same thing to the families of several other residents, it appeared that it allowed Michelle to hire even fewer of her own staff. On one evening, my wife went to visit her mother at The Nest and the caregiver that WE had hired on was the only caregiver in the house and there were two other residents there in addition to Joan, my mother-in-law. Look... ALL of these places are run for profit... the less staff they have, the more money they make. The more activities they promise, the more staff they need. The more efficient, experienced and personable the staff members are, the more they will have to pay them. On top of that, your parent's condition may always be in a state of flux and, most likely, worsening every month or two. It's difficult to focus on the quality of any one care facility when you are evaluating so many different factors but I can say, after having my mother-in-law at four different facilities (over 8 years or so) that, in hindsight, we are not happy with our experience with The Nest. And, by the way, here is what I would like to offer you who are reading this review ... feel free to message me if you have questions or concerns. We can even exchange phone numbers if you want advise or opinion. I mean, this isn't some silly restaurant review... this is regarding the care of your parent and we all have to help each other with this kind of stuff. It's hard to find people to bounce ideas off of and to get feedback from. People that want to slam the place that they are currently using hesitate to share with others while their parent is still at the place... and you won't have an opportunity to talk to those people until after you've already signed up with the facility. Michelle was so amazing with my mother in law. When my mil was transferred to the Nest from her previous board n care, things were discovered and the care Michelle and her staff took in making my mil comfortable was amazing. Sadly, we weren't with The Nest very long, as my mil passed within a month of arrival but in that short time, she received care with was tender and loving. I wouldn't hesitate to place any loved ones in the care of Michelle and her staff. read more

Our family was fortunate to find a room at The Nest in Sherman Oaks. From the moment I first stepped foot in their home, I felt a giant wave of relief. Calm, clean, extremely well run. It just immediately felt like home. My mother only got to experience the gift of The Nest for a couple of months before she passed away, but she just loved it there. First and foremost, they came right away when she buzzed the alert. This is huge because she was living in assisted living before this and when she pushed the emergency button it often took them 20 minutes to respond. She loved the food. Lots of great home cooking and they would cook to order anything she wanted. The caretakers took care of her, lovingly, as if she was their own family member. Michelle and Herschel Weisman are more organized than I am (which is hard to do). They know the ins and outs of the healthcare system and provide a seamless and loving experience for your parent at their Board and Care facility. I would always take their advice because they knew exactly what they were talking about. To say that they "kick ass" is a major understatement. I cannot recommend The Nest more highly - they were a godsend at a time when we truly needed it! Thank you Michelle, Hershy Janeth, and ALL of your loving staff! read more

We reluctantly moved my mom from her 60 years home to the nest 2 on Morrison St. She had Alzheimers and was falling at home; we could no longer rely on 24-hour home care-giving and she would not have done well in a larger facility. The house was quiet, but so caring. The caregivers were the same for the whole time she lived there. She came to recognize them and feel comfortable with them. She initially was able to walk and use the bathroom, but when she lost that ability, they continued to transfer her and take her to the bathroom. We heard from PTs and OTs about the exceptional care she was receiving there compared to other places. Yes, due to covid, we had to bring activities to her, as some of the promised extra-curricular activities were limited. They would try to keep her engaged with puzzles and art when able, but it was not every day. Music happened a short amount of time, but again, covid restrictions made things difficult. If she lived with me until she passed, I might have done things differently, but I could not have handled her physically like the care-givers at the nest did. They caught infections early and we were able to get her on medication quickly. They knew her normal behavior and when she was off, which is how you know dementia patients may have a bladder infection. They took her outside and on walks, weather permitting, which she always loved. They were able to go out for ice cream at one point, but that became more challenging as she and her housemates needed more care. The house was always clean and never had a urine smell when I would visit and the communal meals were nice for interacting with other residents. This is a challenging and heart-wrenching decision of how to care for your loved ones when they need more care than you can find or provide. The nest was a blessing to me, my siblings and my mom. We were informed about what was happening, and my large family were always able to speak to my mom via telephone. We did limit our visits around meal-times, other visitors being there and in the mornings when they were showering everyone as asked, but we are so grateful for the care my mom had for the last year and a half of her life. Michelle was a wonderful resource and got her on hospice care immediately when we needed it; Kaiser called to get her on hospice 2 days after she had already passed. I highly recommend the nest for your loved ones care. read more

We have known the owners of The Nest for a number of years and when my father could no longer care for himself we turned to Michelle for help. While she could not accommodate my father in her board and care homes, she worked with us, FREE OF CHARGE, to find the right caregivers, hospice agency and doctors that have greatly extended my father's life. She is so respectful to the seniors she cares for, and supportive to the families she serves. I am writing this review from personal experience. My mother, who recently passed away, lived at The Nest under the care of the Weisman family for over three years. As a family, we felt blessed to be part of the Nest family. The Weisman's treat all their residents as family. They know the needs of each resident and monitor their health and emotional well being. The caretakers do more than supply the needs of daily living. They genuinely care about each resident and offer encouragement, friendship, and compassion. In addition to providing food and shelter, Michelle W. found a great psychotherapist for our mother, who came once a week. She also found doctors who made home visits to The Nest. When hospice became a necessity, Michelle recommended a great organization, Comfort Choice Hospice Care. Everyone worked as a team, with good communication. It made my life immeasurably easier to have the support of The Nest community in my mother's last years. read more

The hardest thing my sister and I ever had to do was move our mother from her home almost 2 years ago as her Alzheimer's was advancing quickly. Neither of us were big on nursing homes so we decided to network other options. We are both very grateful for the Weitzman family. The level of care our mother is getting, I believe is top notch. My mother has been a resident at The Nest for two years. It was the best decision we have made with regard to her care and our piece of mind. She suffers from Alzheimer's Disease and was at home with full-time care for two years prior. We were hesitant to move her into a "facility" where she would be placed on a lock-down floor and receive corporate care. The Nest provides a warm and loving environment where the owners and caregivers treat her with respect and compassion. She participates in daily activities and is very comfortable in her environment. Unlike the other reviewer, I actually moved my dad OUT of a corporate residence in to the Nest. The Nest offers more personal care than his corporate residence and I find the Nest owners to be thoughtful and responsive to my concerns regarding my father's care. The Nest is a calm, peaceful, personal residence with lovely caregivers. It is a true home setting, with a beautiful front yard garden and a front patio for residents to enjoy meals outdoors. It's true, the Nest does not have all the bells and whistles that corporate care offers but in my opinion, residents with dementia don't need fancy decor or extensive dining options. My mother has been a resident in The Nest for the past year and I am so happy with the amazing love and care she has been given. The place is clean, organized and the caregivers are fabulous. The food is amazing. My mom goes on different outings all the time. The owner is professional, organized and treats the residents like family. There are fun activities at the house- arts and crafts, excercise classes, music classes and even dogs come to the house and hang out with the residents. I am so happy with the love and care my mom is getting. We love being part of The Nest family. We would never go anywhere else!! read more

The first review I wrote was taken down for lack of specifics according to Yelp HQ. The review I initially wrote said, " After 2 years in residence, multiple staff changes and several disconcerting incidences, moving my mother OUT of the Nest was the kindest and most respectful thing we could have done for her. We witnessed board & care at its worst." It appears that someone has attempted to shut down my negative reviews (this is not the first one), so here are some specifics that should satisfy Yelp's requirements... My mother lived at The Nest facility on Morrison in Sherman Oaks from December 9, 2015 to December 17, 2017. When we first moved her in, we were generally happy with the level of care she received. As time went by, and staff started to quit (citing poor work conditions), we began to become concerned for my mother's well being. We found rodent droppings on her bedroom floor, a piece of chewed gum that was left there for about a year and a half (yes, I have pictures of both of these), mix ups with her medications, and grime covering her personal belongings. During her time at The Nest, we had hired a part time personal companion for my mom given what we believed to be a lack of activities taking place on site (a piano player for a half hour once a week). When her companion wasn't present, we would find my mom left up against a wall, belted into her wheelchair, staring at a TV screen which was sometimes turned on and sometimes switched off. She would often be left like that for ages without anyone tending to her. Lunch was often wilted bagged salads, boxed mac & cheese, frozen pizza and fish sticks... stuff lacking nutritional value, particularly for the elderly and infirmed. The list of concerns we had about my mother's well being was varied and worrisome. Suffice it to say, we moved my mom to Sunrise of Studio City. There are activities all day, and we believe there are enough staff to monitor all the residents. The place is clean. The food is healthy, plentiful and appetizing. The medication never gets messed up because it's computerized. I don't believe that the owner of the Nest has mal intent. I do believe, however, that corners are cut in order to save money, and our family was not wiling to subject my mother to what we consider to be sub par circumstances in order to help someone save a few dollars. read more
