What was less impressive was the gallery attendant. While knowledgeable, she came across as pretentious and judgmental, though maybe she was trying to be nice in her own way(?). I would have preferred she stay focused on the education and stay in that lane. It's not enough to deter me, but it did make me want to leave the gallery. That aside, the art itself -- the surreal interpretation of a body's form is so interesting and well done, and I'd definitely consider purchasing a sculpture in the future.

His work presents the emotion and drama of that perfect extension of muscle and bone. Nearly all of them are designed to be spun in place, having the hardware built directly into the pedestals. In my half a dozen visits here or so, I'm compelled to move from piece to piece, spinning each and marveling at the way the figures shine from every angle. It's quite amazing. Noting some negative reviews based on rudeness from workers here, I was wary of interactions with the staff. But, we have had nothing but positive vibes from them. They are of course eager to discuss the pieces and talk about Montgomery's process and upcoming work. One time I heard one of the hostesses asking a woman to not take so many pictures, but she did so in a polite way. I have taken a few myself, perhaps I'm more discrete :). But, no one has ever said anything. I can understand why they would not want the artwork to be heavily documented with potentially unflattering photography in such a way that might lessen the impact of seeing it in person. Though, I can hardly imagine that to be the case here as Montgomery's work is truly spectacular and each time I visit there's more to see. This stand-out gallery in the ever charming Carmel-By-the-Sea is one of our must-visit stops whenever we come through here. We have dreamed of having one, for which we would have to save many pennies. Until then, we will have to continue enjoying them in this lovely gallery. Hopefully one day!

I had no idea that there were so many talented you local youth (14-22) that are so creative and talented. I am still speechless from what I saw tonight at their Art Show. I'm not an artsy (pardon my lack for a better word) fartsy person, nor a collector but I do appreciate art for whatever it is to me and to the artist. I asked a young man by the door who were all the artists... are they local? I stood their gazing at the wall next to him and he said, "I did this" I honestly almost laughed and was in disbelief. Marcos Hidalgo's work blew me away so much that I posted some pics of his work and others on FB by the time I reached my car. By the time I started the engine there were a couple posts asking about the artwork from some friends. All these young folk have MAD TALENT! I noticed a lot of younger folk that I know locally and was so surprised and grateful that they have a nice outlet for their creativity. Youth Arts Collective is a non-profit organization and I look forward to donating money to them once the time is right (when I have money to donate). Honestly, if you or your child has the knack for art or just interested, I'd look into them. Tonight was their 11th Birthday Celebration but also their Opening Night from 5 to 9. Tomorrow (1/29/11) they have an Art Show from 1 to 4pm. I highly suggest you stop in and see what the buzz is about. The place was packed with great energy, a nice vibe and a lot of excitement. Lots of talented past inhabitants of the Monterey area were featured. There was a whole section on John Steinbeck and lots of other writers, artists, and citizens who made the area their home. The featured art was amazing and the proprietor (?) was very knowledgeable. He was a bit reserved, so I wasn't sure he wanted us to roam around the shop, but I heard him talking to other visitors and found him to be full of information. Lots of nooks and crannies where interesting items were displayed. Very fun gallery that resembled a vintage store, except nothing was for sale! Worth a visit!
