Very nice location near lots of shopping and things to do. We ordered the enchilada special ($15) and added chicken ($7) and it was delicious. It was served with salad on the side. Wish I had known this as we ordered the house salad (same one as the side) to share. Our waiter didn't mention this even though he knew we were splitting the dishes. The enchilada was delicious and the chicken was very moist. It was quite filling as well. The salad had fresh lettuce and cucumbers with delicious dressing. Cute owl themed restaurant called The Toasted Owl was nice but very disappointed that The Southern Rail Restaurant was closed down.

I have passed the Newton so many times and was just waiting to go in person. I'm not kidding absolutely nothing disappointed; the food, drinks, atmosphere, and live band were all perfect! Brittany recommended the fried green tomatoes, which were amazing!! We had some white wine and they even had live jazz music in the background. Really quite impressive coffee bar and work space. Love the brick walls and the beautifully treated chandeliers coupled with the massive fire place. Music was quite perfect - lofi beats with some well known anime soundtracks. Staff was quirky (in a charming way) and incredibly attentive - I had only ordered a cookie and yet my water was routinely refreshed throughout my afternoon there. I go here monthly to watch the Storyline Slam. It's a gorgeous spot in between Southern Rail and Changing Hands. I love the acoustics in it as well as the big chandelier. read more

I came here for a Hoopla Calligraphy class and I loved The Newton setup. As a customer coming to take a class it was fun after to look into the shops. Both times that I have been here, it was for a Meetup conference event of some sort. We sat in the large back room off the bar. It was comfortable, and acoustics were good. The bar server was friendly. The building, including the restaurant and book store, has a hip feel to it. read more

I reached out to this beautiful space to bring a religious "Christian" gathering to the meeting rooms Sunday evenings. The purpose was to bring a few families together and share a word of hope and faith. I intended to use it for a few weeks while we found something with a children area. I was assisted promptly and professionally via email and telephone. Apparently, there was a confusion with my reservation request and luckily I walked in to confirm my reservation. I was welcomed by the co owner, and manager Ms. Cindy. She was very nice explaining the confusion and agreed to honor our initial request. The event was a total success, our guests loved the venue, its amenities, the ambiance and the central location. The staff at the venue were great too. I am just sorry it did not work out for future events. The Newton will make wonderful venue for everything else except "Christian" religious gatherings. read more

I had an appointment at the Newton at 11:30AM to view an event space for baby shower and nobody ever showed up. I waited 25 minutes and had to leave. I'm sad I had planned my only lunch time of the day for this and was left disappointed. read more

My classical chamber ensemble, the Mill Ave Chamber Players, did a concert last week at the Newton. Not only is the space beautiful and adaptable to use in many different formations, but I can not say enough of how helpful Tanya and the staff were. Great atmosphere, great food, friendly staff. Bookstore has rare and hard to find books. Restaurant has a cool fireplace outdoors. The NEWton is not new at all. It's formerly- or still- known as the Southern Rail Restaurant which I had frequented a couple of times. It's really the plaza that is called the Newton. It has the Changing Hands bookstore and the most pleasant garden store there. Three great places in one location. I enjoyed brunch with a few friends but nothing mouthwatering enough to marvel about. Great service and ambiance with a chance that I'll return...sooner than later. read more

Recent visit to the Newton. Advertised as a 'unique venue.' Basically a 'rent-a-hall' which includes an over-priced bookstore and a restaurant / bar. Staff seemed friendly, courteous but service was slow and they had difficulty handling cash payments (or any other kind of payment). The Newton seems to have an 'identity' crisis. Is it a bar ? restaurant? bookstore? something else? Who knows? More importantly, who cares? Seating and accommodations tended to be crowded and uncomfortable. Over-priced and over-hyped. read more

This place is SO cool! Who knew Phoenix had so much style? (Sorry locals!) We held a private event at the Newton and they took great care of us. But the bookshop and restaurant were also awesome - we were so glad to impress our clients with this awesome spot. Excellent brunch. We shared the special. A pancake cooked in a cast iron skillet topped with chicken, potatoes and spinach.....mmmmhmm delicious. And we shared the sticky bun. That was amazing. Friendly service, an interesting selection of both new and used books, and fair prices on drinks. 1 star deducted for a crazy parking situation including a lot that was way too narrow to turn around in once I got to the end and realized there were no open spots and no way out other than backing all the way back out again. read more

I held my wedding reception here in their event space. The event coordinator Tanya did a phenomenal job in making our wedding day extra special. All of my guests commented on how beautiful the venue was. The working fireplace, brick walls, and two gorgeous chandeliers made the space a perfect spot for a romantic and intimate wedding. The Southern Rail catered our reception and even made our wedding cakes. All of our guests thoroughly enjoyed their meals as evidenced by the numerous compliments. Again, Tanya and her team couldn't have done a better job listening to the wishes of my fiancee and I and making our day exactly as we imagined it would be.
