That's the big crepe with nothing in it. Garlic pancake

Last night was not the night. More like a garlic pancake with little substance. Staff were oddly confrontational. Sat with our jackets on as did others. We will not return.

I had supper this evening with my pal, Sandra, at The Nook Crêperie. We both ordered a Bonne Pomme Crêpe and it was delicious. It was served warm and gooey so the cold ice cream was a nice contrast. Needless to say, it was very sweet! Dale was our server and she was friendly and took good care of us. I'd go back!

    Do the Fandango!

Found this place after consulting yelp. With only one very good review, we thought it a worthwhile risk over the Irving truck stop. Wow. The Nook salad was delish, the crêpe Faro was delish, and the Fandango dessert crêpe was delish. Splitting everything with my GF only left me hungry to return.

It tastes as good as it looks.

In addition the service was slow and the waiter seemed almost deliberately inattentive. We had the mushroom soup, salmon crepe, crepe Suzette and the double bacon crepe. ALL BAD. SO SAD!

As the name implies, they serve crepes - plus some daily special soups and 3 or 4 different salads. The background on the restaurant indicates the chef is locally grown, educated and experienced, so that's great too. If yelp allowed, I'd actually give them a 3.5 star rating. Better than A-OK, but some minor items holding them back from 'being a fan'. I have to make a decision though, so 4 it is, as they are completely worthwhile checking out. I had the duck crepe - it was good. The cranberry sauce was more on the tart than sweet, and all in it worked. Also had the carrot soup which was also quite delicious. Hubby has the Cassolade (sp?) crepe, which had beans, sausage and I believe bacon. I saw it on the menu, but was afraid to try it. And you know what? I regret my fear. Had a bit and it was fantastic. (As much as I did enjoy my choice, next time I will order this one.) He had the broccoli soup and was happy with it. (I tasted it, and it was great. Not the right choice for my duck crepe (carrot was right), but more cheesy. The area where the restaurant fell down, just a little bit, was in service. I got the impression our waitress was perhaps still new. We didn't get water refills, the salad we opted to split came on one plate (which was fine - but... would have liked to have maybe gotten another plate. Not a crisis, but the difference between mediocre service and great service.) There were a few other little things along those lines. Again, nothing terribly wrong, but this place is, as far as lunch goes, a bit more on the spendy side and it would be nice to get just a little more service (Our lunch was about $55 for two people all in - we would usually spend about 1/2 that on a typical Sunday lunch for two.) I should note our server was very nice and did work to ensure we were happy. No internet. :-/ Would I return: Yes Would I recommend Yes

The Longer Version: Le Petit Paris just opened up September 2024. It's very hidden and I would have never just stumbled upon it, especially considering I'm rarely out in Kanata these days. Luckily I'm a weirdo and one of the things I like to do is poke around on Google Maps zooming in randomly on areas in and around Ottawa looking for new businesses to check out. That's how I found Le Petit Paris. It's tucked in behind a bunch of businesses and is not visible from the street. Fortunately the directions on Google Maps lead me there correctly. They are currently takeout only. The space is very small and there is absolutely no place to sit down and eat there. I got the Parisienne Crepe ($10.90) which contained ham, cheese and mushrooms. The crepe was made fresh. However, they use frozen mushrooms, which they microwaved (in the plastic bag it was packaged in, their space is open so I saw this). I get it, they're new and are still working out how much supply they need, but I feel fresh mushrooms would be better. Also, I'm not a fan of microwaving plastics for health reasons. I also think this crepe would taste better with some fresh spinach. Nonetheless, the crepe was tasty. The crepe itself was soft and had the right amount of chew. The ham was nice and smokey and the cheese provided a nice cheese pull ;) The crepe maker, Nene, was lovely. We had a nice conversation, en français, since she told me she was more comfortable in French. The man at the cash register (I think his name was Guy, because that's what was printed on the back of his shirt, lol) was equally nice and told me about their business and products. He was fluently bilingual, so I spoke in English with him ;) Their choux pastries looked good, but it was the end of the day, so they had limited selection left. I'll need to return earlier in the day to try these. There's free parking available in the lot that's shared with neighbouring businesses. I have a soft spot for small locally-owned independent businesses. I hope they do well and can relocate to a more visible/less tucked away location and maybe even have some seating for dining in, in the future. With more business, hopefully they can use fresh ingredients instead of frozen. Review #37 (2025)
