I came to Tammy because I was having a hard time feeling satisfied after meals and felt overwhelmed at figuring out an actually healthy path forward to improving my eating habits post stressful life events (and not just listening to folk on Tik Tok). Over the course of our time together, Tammy helped me to shift the way I thought about food, promoting simple but effective steps to take after each phone call together. She listened to my concerns and prior frustrations from working with apps and coaches in the past and never once nudged any boundaries I set down. There was no such thing as a stupid question and Tammy made sure I had all the resources, answers, links, and videos I needed to be successful in forming better habits. I really appreciated that she worked with what was functional and accessible for me--on a budget, without a car, limited freezer space, etc. Instead of reminding me to scoop out my morning bagel like prior coaches have, Tammy asked each call what worked for me, what didn't, and what helped me to feel satisfied at each meal. Then we'd find one thing to improve--adding more color to each meal or adding a "sprinkle" like sunflower seeds or olive oil to help a meal reach its full nutritional potential. I also never felt like I was on my own in anything Tammy suggested I try. Gotta make my own broth this week to cook with? Here are great places to get bones, here is a recipe to do it, here are instructions for your instantpot, etc. Want to start incorporating more fish into my diet? Here are 3 brands for tinned fish, a local catch market for seasonal choices, and recipes. I was able to develop sustainable, long-lasting healthy habits by working with Tammy and I find myself continuing to grow with her guidance even though our sessions together are over. After absolutely refusing to put chia seeds in anything for our 15 weeks together, the other day I ate them willingly because I thought "Tammy said these are good for me and I haven't had them yet." This was my experience with this business. First, ALL consultations are on-line. This was post-pandemic FYI ! She does NOT do in-person meetings. Second, you have to download an app to communicate with her Third, be prepared to spend ALOT of time taking pictures of the food you eat Fourth, She is expensive ($1500!) . Has an air-tight policy for getting paid monthly. So don't even think about skipping or changing payment terms. (Please note that I am not saying businesses shouldn't be paid and have clear policies, but tere was something about the focus which was "unsettling" to me.) Fifth, A lot of her advice was also referenced in the book she wrotereplicated (which comes with the $1500 when you sign-up with her!). After I got the book and read it, I then wondered why was I paying $1,500 ? I think you have to sign a contract. SO BE THOUGHTFUL BEFORE SIGNING IT !!!!!! Overall I was uninspired and never warmed to her or the process. In the end, I recommend that anyone selecting this type of service be fully committed. And if any of the points I have raised, resonant with you - think whether the benefits outweigh the price tag for them. BTW: Her book is great. I have had such a good experience working with Tammy at The Nourished Belly. She has really helped demystify nutrition for me and guided me to create healthy, delicious habits that have completely changed how I eat and nourish myself. Since starting with her in October, I have nearly eliminated my bloating and nausea, which used to be a daily issue. I started working with Tammy in Fall of 2012. Her nutrition guidance and wellness program has dramatically changed how I cook and eat. I have many great things to say about Tammy that this review probably won't do justice. I found Tammy through a random Google search, hoping to find someone to help me with my acid reflux and other digestive issues. From the start, Tammy was a great listener and resource. I loved her approach of changing habits one by one and over time. Every session we had a dedicated topic to discuss based on the photos I took of what I ate in the past two weeks. We discussed manageable, attainable tasks (such as incorporating more healthy fats), and Tammy provided suggestions of what I could do to implement the tasks. She was incredibly responsive over email whenever I had questions and recommended some great, high-quality supplements. I rarely ever have issues with my digestion anymore, and if I do, I am able to problem solve and work backwards to figure out what happened. Tammy taught me the skills to help me pinpoint these issues, and I could not be more thrilled to no longer have to deal with acid reflux. I also appreciated her approach to eating mindfully and being in tune with what my body was telling me. I didn't have to count my calories, think about macros, or weigh my food. Well the story of Tammy meets Rena or Rena meets Tammy (however you want to see it) was an accidental, lucky, fortunate (well, is anything ever accidental?) discovery. I had been 7 years out from a 12-year relationship with my husband (yup that means divorce). During these 7 years (I am now calling "La Gran Depresión") I had endured, the death of my dad, grandma, uncle, a rebound relationship (that was ridiculous), trials and tribulations with my son and family, grad school, weight gain, and a series of terrible dates. During this time I had started training the beautiful martial art of Capoeira and still I was not feeling happy about this funk I was in. Then I took a trip up north with some friends to train Capoeira with my northern California (the BEST STATE in the country) Peeps. My friends new I was not completely myself and asked if I was feeling ok. That's when I said: my life right now is blbllblbaaaalblaa and yadda yadda yadda, and bleep blop blop, and dudududddduudu. Of course I got the glossed over stares. Then without a second thought my buddy Mike says: you need to meet Tammy! The Zen Master (aka, Phil Jackson) of nutrition, health, wellbeing, and just all around good vibes. She lives up here. And then there was Tammy!!! My next chapter...and so our journey began. Somehow she sucked up all the brujaja in my life with a celestial bruja vacuum! It wasn't just my nutritional behaviors that she whipped into shape, it was my entire point of view of life that changed--she was my own personal Micky Goldmill (Rocky). When she found out I was living in a little studio by myself with only a microwave, toaster oven, and a hot plate I think she turned on red alert. And I'm gonna tell you...let's just be candid for a moment: it was not always easy. I had some bad days and it was tough having her in up north in East Bay and me all the way down in L.A. but it worked. We met on the phone every other week with out fail. We set goals, talked about epic fails, my food journal (which was kinda like making a kid eat their vegetables), and successes. She was like (and I mean this in the warmest of ways Tammy) my high school narks. You know them. They worked in the attendance office--and ALWAYS knew where every student was--at every moment--ALL the time. How did they do that? My relationship was complicated with the narks because I liked them but I wasn't supposed to like them. They kept me on track. But I divert. Tammy, seemingly, new where I was--at every moment--all the time. AND SHE WAS UP NORTH. I'm convinced she has special superhero nark senses. She's SuperNarko, she's Narktaculous, She's Narko Woman. Wait! what?! Why didn't I get stopped on that one? Ok let's be serious. Everything has become a little clearer to me these days. I realized that part of my block was: I was married for a long time with a wonderful kitchen and a life that was gone and now I was living like a bachelor cocooned in my little apartment (eek). I started working with Tammy in November of 2013 and here is just a taste of what has happened since then: I was in a little match box studio-----With our goal setting, I am now in a giant 4 bedroom house with three wonderful roommates, giant kitchen, garden filled with home grown fruits & veggies, hot tub, and fountains in the hills of L.A. Cooking was a chore (it reminded me of a lost past life)----Cooking is now fun and easy in a fully functional kitchen with friends. We have lots of laughs too. Workaholic----I'm not gonna lie this is a work in progress but instead of having two jobs now I have one. Yay--And there are so many more successes to come. Nutrition is not only what you put in your mouth. If your emotions and spirit are not in a healthy state, it's virtually impossible to be mindful of what you put through the pearly gates. Tammy is awesome and such a great nutrition coach! I started working with her so she could steer me in a better direction with what types of food were making me bloated and provide guidance on some digestion issues I was having for years. Each time we had a session (initial in person, remaining via phone) we dove into a new topic after discussing some learnings from the prior session. I honestly felt like I was taking a nutrition course and learned so much! She taught me about eating more mindfully and avoiding distractions (focus on chewing) and paying attention to when I am hungry to help with boredom eating. I learned about Poop using the Bristol Stool Chart, which I was "slightly" obsessed about during the first several weeks. Tammy taught me the reasons to eat full fat dairy and that butter is not my enemy (yess!) and how good fats can help with making us feel full. Before working with Tammy, I avoided eating starchy carbs but she taught me the benefits of cooking with the healthy starches such as quinoa, lentils, sweet potatoes, etc. Towards the end of our sessions, I went on a 10 day Sugar Challenge eliminating added sugar from my diet and I am happy to say that it has changed my relationship with sugar and I am making much better choices now.
