After visiting Kent State University we needed a place to relax and have a snack. We found "The…read moreRiver Merchant" 5 minutes from campus on the Cuyahoga River. It is easy to find, easy to park, spacious with plenty of seating and an outdoor deck overlooking the river. We were seated promptly and greeted by a very nice young lady by the name of Lorelei (quite a wonderful name). She was effective, efficient, pleasant, and made our experience that much better. At the entrance was a surprisingly well stocked wine cellar with some very good names. I was looking forward to a nice glass of wine for lunch. Unfortunately, the table selection only included a very few obscure names by the glass, so that option was out. The menu included all the standard burgers, flatbreads, and odds and ends one would expect. The food was good and we had a nice lunch. We finished with a nice cup of coffee and a pleasant smile from Lorelei. I very much enjoyed our excursion to Kent State University and "The River Merchant". I would recommend both.

The chili was hearty and satisfying, the pickle fries were a great addition, and you simply can't beat the value. You can still come to Ray's, get plenty of good food, and leave feeling like you got your money's worth. Ray's has been a Kent institution for a reason. It's comfortable, familiar, affordable and filled with a lot of memories for me. After 50 years of visits, I'm still happy to walk through the door -- and I'm sure I'll be back again.

When I asked if he meant me, I complied and walked out. But I had not done anything wrong, and it honestly felt like a personal attack. I had multiple stamps from previous bars saying that I was underage. He gave me no explanation or reason. And he did nothing to the other girl, who was drinking after taking and throwing out her drink. All I wanted was to dance with my friends for my birthday, and I didn't get to because I was kicked out almost immediately.

Well, tonight we decided to take my dad to dinner, and go to Brubakers to have a drink and watch football. Well, before we even finished our beer, a fight broke out. Us, a table of 6, just sat in the corner not saying anything... Then, the bartender's husband started screaming vulgarly across the bar to our table. The classic instigation tactic. After the bartender told them to leave, they came back in multiple times saying they " just wanted to use the bathroom" (which was right by our table.) instead of mediating, the bartender told us we had to leave as well for "instigating." Yet, her husband was waiting outside for us, and pacing back and forth in front of the door. Then, she said," The owner said if your family has lived here for 22 years, and we dont know who you are, then your family needs to leave .." In fear, we call our husbands to come escort us out,as well as the Hudson Police. And you guessed it, as soon as we walked to our car, the husband was charging us- and the bartender was trying to stop him- and he continued to shove her in order to get us. We spoke to the second bartender, a young woman, who said this happens every week... Thank goodness, Hudson police department showed up right in time.
