Before shopping, we decided to have dinner first. My friends recommended this spot and I really enjoyed it! We all ordered drinks. I haven't had a Long Island iced tea in maybe a decade?! $9?! If I wasn't driving, I would have easily consumed 3. It was delish! Cocktails for under ten bucks blew my mind. I'm so used to downtown Toronto prices. Friday and Saturday night there is a prime rib special. Although I asked for medium rare, it was more medium well. The saving grace was that the meat was quite tender and seasoned nicely. I enjoyed all the fixins which included mixed veggies, mashed potatoes, and Yorkshire pudding! Service was pretty good. Servers were young but were trained properly. Just the right balance of friendly and attentive. I have to mention the bathrooms are upstairs and the stalls are tiny. Terribly awkward. I heard there is an accessible washroom downstairs which is good for anyone who needs it. I would definitely come here again for the food and drinks! If it's not Friday or Saturday, I'll order the fish and chips. They looked and smelled incredible!

Tried the nachos, wings and potato skins... along with some beer and a Killer Koolade! Really nice patio, shady side under the trees, or brighter open side with umbrellas and a great street view. Last time I was there $17 for 3 large bangers, mashed potatoes and an assortment of steamed fresh vegetables. Plus gravy. Come on. Excellent. They redid the outdoor patio last year and even though it's in a parking lot they did a nice job. Downside this location has been home to at least 2, maybe 3 failed restaurants before. John's came in and did a dust and clean repairs and paint. But you can't get away from the old restaurants. Oddly there is a second room that is large that used to have couple poor tables and a bunch of tables that only gets used for parties and occasional overflow for the main area. Washrooms for men is tiny and needs a makeover, so is the main area. Really dated decor. It's tough. Do you renovate and raise the prices to cover the costs or do try to keep costs down and keep the prices down? For this location it's starting to feel really worn. However the food is still great and we have even used it to cater a small party of 16 last year. I only took one star away because of the lack of any ambiance and the need of updates.

To say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement to say the least. We walk in to find a very relaxed, comfortable environment, nothing fancy. Some booths, a nice bar, classic rock music playing, lots of TVs for sports and a friendly greeting upon our arrival. Great selection of beers and a big menu. We tried the burger (they put it together exactly the way I asked), the Grilled Vegetable Sandwich and an order of Buffalo Hot Wings. All were excellent and perfectly presented. The wings especially were great! Wings were huge, perfectly cooked, crispy, Buffalo hot sauce was spot on. At first glance, the pub looks small, but if you go towards the back of the restaurant, you'll see an open door to another section that has pool tables, more seating, a big screen TV and a cozy fireplace. So if you haven't tried Castle John's yet, it's time to check it out. Highly recommended!

My cousins ordered the Mac n' Cheese Poutine, Beefed Up Poutine, and Blue Cheese Burger, while I had the Jambalaya (without shrimps). The poutines looked good, especially the beef one, topped with crispy onion straws. The fries were also crispy and there was a good amount of beef and gravy. The other one had lots of mac n' cheese smothering tater tots. Both were good! The burger looked great, with its 8oz patty smothered with blue cheese and caramelized onions. It was also served with crispy fries. It looked good enough for me to second guess my choice. I had the jambalaya with chicken and Italian sausage, minus the shrimps, due to a shellfish allergy. It was pretty good, although not authentic. I would have preferred the more traditional andouille sausage. Overall, the food was very good and the portions were generous. I barely finished my jambalaya and my cousins all took home leftovers. With good food, nice ambiance, and great service, I recommend this place!

I've had their fish and chips in the past, which were meh compared to what I've experienced elsewhere, but that is where I will finish complaining and start complimenting for example the tacos here. They are amazing, as is the poutine, the onion rings, and the Smash burger--I got the Angry Sterling, which is a flavour explosion with delicious toppings. And the drink, the Toronto cocktail, was amazing--a strong enough flavour of whisky with just enough of the liqueurs to make it not sting going down. Oh, and I haven't spoken about the live music yet. There was a guy playing guitar who was taking requests, and--and I'm saying this as a person who isn't too big a fan of acoustic guitar music--was pretty good. His passion alone made me start to bop my head and tap my foot to the music. Oh, and I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the nice trails, beach, and a historic house in a neighbourhood that reminds me of the bridal path. Up a flight of stairs that can be found on Mill Street in intervals between Pharma Save and Ed Whites (appliances) on the side across from where the Pharma Save is...
