The music is awful, you have to make the best of it. But after going there for a couple months the music is simply catered to a white and latin crowd. I do not hear anything current or relevant when I am there. Me and my gf usually go there because its close and thats it. We are usually the only ones that truly dance and are the reason alot of folks said they enjoyed their time (even though they agree the music and atmosphere sucks- it looks like NY ). We have never got offered free drinks or anything complimentary for attracting a crowd or bringing friends. Everywhere else, this is usual when attracting customers for a bar. Too much staff... It is not POC friendly. I have heard almost everyone I know complain about the demographics and the bad music. I also see alot of DL men hovering by the bar in bulk so I am guessing it may be catered to them they tend to by the most drinks. I have had many friends there make the same statement. Overall, just leave this one alone and go to Islanders. More POC, more diversity in staff, no awkward fake moments with the Owner (who is as uptight as they come), and more fun people. You will likely leave aftera couple drinks.... Thats what they want. They scam and play a couple fo songs so you buy buy buy and leave without dancing or if you do its to 50 cent and Lil John like you in 8th grade Bad business.... Trust me. I dance all the time. I try to be nice to the DJs because I can't tell if their fault or the owners either way. I won't go unless I am desperate. Unfortunately, this business doesn't keep up with the times. She figured that since I'm Asian, a Stockton resident, in the know.... then we'd have place. Well... no. Bogey's no longer has karaoke... but it has cleaned up quite a bit since the 90s. But then again, I was a huge jaegermeister fan back then and a night out on the town for me nowadays is going to Cold Stone, jumping in the pool before bed and taking an ambien. Still not on my favorite parts of town... it has cleaned up... no cover, nice bartender... even funnier bouncer. Not as funny as me. =)

He says, "do either of you want to play?" and I encourage my son to get up there and play a game with him. He sinks every ball except the 8 ball and then says" be right back", whereby he then goes and sings two songs of karaoke. Meanwhile, there are now 5 other people with their names on the board and we are all waiting and complaining. He then comes back and in 2 minutes finishes the game. I step up to play my game, and some wire-thin, 1970s hair guy steps up and puts his quarters in and starts racking it, I think of saying something but let it go. I see they have erased my name from the board, so I go back and put my name at the top of the list. Then the drunk guy, comes back and plays with the white-haired guy, who was a pretty exceptional player and fun to watch. Well, that game ends and I step up thinking, with my name at the top of the list, that I would play, but then the old lady who played the first game, jumps in and puts her quarters in and then proceeds to go out back after she racks the table. By then, I had had enough and I put a dollar on the table and break 'em and start to play. Well, the woman, Betty, comes back and says "What is going on"? I tell her that they had already passed me up twice and that I want to play and that she can play next. Of course, the white-haired dude comes in and says, "that isn't how it works, you put your name on the board". I proceed to tell him that my name was on the board, but they erased it and that both of them had just cut in front of me, not once but twice. He called BS and told me it was his table, he was the owner, and his whole 'I am right' story. I said, okay, your bar your rules, but I see how you treat your patrons and "you are on Yelp, yes"? Well, he hesitates and says okay, you should have just said that, and come back and play. At that point, I told him had he listened to me in the first place, I was trying to calmly explain what happened, but he wanted to just come and push his weight around so forget it, I don't even want to play now and proceeded to leave. So then he got an attitude again. I suppose I should have just hopped in the first time it happened and been more assertive, but I was trying to not make an issue of it and let it go. However, it is obvious the owner cares more about letting his friends take advantage of the situation and they felt privileged and didn't give a shit about the rest of the patrons. Not cool and enough to turn me off to ever returning.

Yesterday, my husband and I were both celebrating birthdays. I brought a bottle of wine for dinner and we decided that we would have a couple of cocktails at the bar before we were seated. Casey, the bartender has always been incredible, great conversationalist, mixologist and he creates the perfect "Cheers" style atmosphere. The restaurant is always great about accommodating a special request. I had requested a thicker cut steak for my dinner about a week before our reservation and it was prepared perfectly! Honestly, the best steak I have had in over a year. My husband had escargot as an appetizer and I had the prawn cocktail. Both were excellent as were the salads and of course the entrees were fantastic. My husband had the King Salmon, perfectly cooked and seasoned very well. We also splurged for dessert and were not disappointed! The server, Casey's wife was so attentive, kind and a true hospitality professional. It was also great seeing Steve Ding, the owner again, he is always welcoming and genuinely dedicated to making your experience a memorable one. If you're going to be doing the full dinner experience like we did, with cocktails before or during dinner, appetizers, salad, entrées, and dessert, it will be a fine dining experience. DO NOT sleep on this restaurant. The only service you will be doing is a disservice to yourself if you don't go. Our bartender recommended the Freak Show Cabernet, and it was delicious. I appreciated how attentive the team was: when I accidentally knocked over my drink, the staff quickly and graciously helped clean up, along with a few flowers I bumped in the process. I apologize for the clumsiness on my part. The chef also came out to greet us, which was a wonderful personal touch. Overall, we had an incredible time. If you're looking for great food and warm hospitality, I highly recommend The Exchange. I'll definitely be telling everyone on social media to stop by for a wonderful experience.
