My in-laws saw The Old Mill at Ashton Pub on a local TV show and wanted to try it, so the four of us went. It is a bit of a trek from Ottawa proper. The decor is very British pub-like (lots of British memorabilia). Charming if you like that kind of stuff. I had the Salmon Boxty ($14.99). I thought that salmon, cream sauce and sun-dried tomatoes sounded like an interesting combination. The combination tasted not so much interesting, but rather odd. It was edible but I would not order it again. The Boxty came with a salad which was ok. Others at the table had the Steak and Kidney Pie, Ashton Chicken and the Grilled Salmon Dinner. They liked their meals better than I liked mine. I did notice on the menu that they had Rarebit. I love Welsh Rarebit and I rarely (haha, pun intended) see this on the menu anywhere in Ottawa. I regret not ordering it while I was there. Service was competent. It looks like they have lots of regulars. Servers seemed more friendly with the regulars than us non-locals. I am not a beer drinker so the fact that this is a brew pub makes no difference to me, but my husband enjoyed trying their beer. I think this would be a good place to go if you live in Ashton or happen to be driving through. I personally would not make a special trip to go back though. read more

3.5 Stars; when oh well will Yelp give us those half-stars to vote for?! This place is still good. The food is good; they've upgraded the menu. The service is good, if a tad slow. Not an overabundance of wait-staff in this place. On the down-side: it was so busy in here! Such a popular place, even on a Wednesday evening - full to the rafters! You couldn't hear yourself think! And it was so H O T in there! The flies were having a party! On the up-side: our group of about 15 people was part of the problem: loud, and hungry and thirsty! Even better: they have started selling little brown jugs of their home brew. Yeah!!! We'll definitely be back. read more

Ambience is wonderful and staff very friendly. Had lunch here on a Monday. Salisbury steak and gravy was very tasty. Mashed potatoes were horrible and side vegetables were bagged from frozen. My wife's fries were cold on arrival. Opt for salad instead. Everyone's mains were good basically but sides really need an overhaul. read more

This place was meh. The decor is fun with the olde English pub vibe. Service was friendly but the food was subpar. Frozen veggies that I didn't eat, poutine and sausage was just ok. I wouldn't eat here again unless for maybe simple appetizers but the beer was good. Maybe just good for a beer and a bite. read more

Just came back from a jaunt out of Ottawa during the City's tighter C-19 restrictions, where we can't dine in. So we did the trip out to Ashton. The pub has great food, beer and a good effort with the decor in trying to recreate a British, or English countryside style of pub, but shame about the indifferent service. The young server who took our names and saw us to our table, seemed to give off a rather condensing vibe. The server who took our order was rather brusque during our whole interaction with her. Also the pub was not busy as it was towards the end of the evening. This is all surprising, given this is not a city pub, and businesses are having a hard time during the pandemic. This would be a 4.5 rating if it wasn't for the service or zero if it wasn't for the good food, beer and the environment. read more

Great British pub, friendly staff and authentic inside. Great food. Good selection of choices for food. Liquor selection is a little thin for us real party animals but I'm sure you can find something to get tuned up on. Busy place at lunch, filled up fast. Service was still decently fast though. The best thing about this place is the atmosphere. We walked in on a (very chilly) fall night and were immediately surrounded by warmth. It was about 8p on a Wednesday night and the place was almost full of smiling happy relaxed looking people. Our waitress was cheerful and attentive. Menu seemed very similar (identical?) to Patty's (on Bank), which makes sense, as I understand they have the same owner. (Am I wrong? Let me know via message if I am so I can correct.) As far as food goes - like Patty's Pub on Bank, they have *great* fries. I had the steak and mushroom pie and enjoyed it. Hubby and The Daughter had burgers. I don't think they enjoyed the burgers as much as they have at other places, so it might work to stick to the English pub fare. Since this is just down the street and around the corner (sort of) from a place we go to weekly, I expect to return her somewhat regularly - so may have more to report on the menu as I learn more. Oh - beer - great selection, including of course Ashton Brewing Company. (Do you see the link? ABC beer, Ashton the town? Get it?) Update: Went back about a week later. While the cozy atmosphere remained, the food was not as good. It appears there may be a consistency issue. I'm downgrading my review from 4 star to 3 star. Would I return: Yes - for the atmosphere alone. I'll stick to simple fair and beer. Would I recommend: Yes, if you are in the area, it's a great stop on a cold winter evening. read more

British Pub atmosphere, great craft beer, and decent food! Absolutely adore their seasonal "Blueberry Wheat" beer!!

Tucked in the corner of the greatly expanded "new" city of Ottawa, the Old Mill at Ashton has the feeling that Coronation Street might just be a part of that new city. Soccer scarves, coasters and other Brit memorabilia adorn the walls and ceiling of this unabashedly British pub. With their own "Ashton" brews, and a menu that looks downright proper mate, the Ashton pub is worth a stop any time you are close by. Recommend the rarebit .... read more

I really wanted to like this place-- the menu looked awesome including Scotch Eggs and Welsh rarebit. Although the ambience is quite nice... the brewpub that has taken over the space did a poor job of restoring it to what could be a very nice place, but has instead chosen to cheaply remodel the dining room area. This is our go-to place for pub food in the west end. Perch filets are fantastic. The blueberry beer is great although all their brews are great. Very homey place, each table usually has three generations of people. Grandparents, parents and children. Pub food is as good as expected but there are lots of interesting offerings like the box ties, salads, etc. It's worth the drive but if you plan on going on the weekend make a reservation. read more

A little off the beaten path, but the folks here are very nice and accommodating. Awesome place for hanging out with your friends or meeting new ones. Service was great and the food was even better. This time we had a group of 12 and they made it work. Portions were very generous. Very nice selection of locally brewed beers ! As soon as you walk in, you feel like you've traveled across the pond. There is a mix of classic pub fare as well as things like nacho's and wraps. The food is excellent! I often get the the club wrap, which has a lovely cranberry mayo. The micro-brewed beers are delicious, the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, staff are friendly and energetic, and the patio is picturesque. I highly recommend taking the drive out to Ashton to experience this gem! read more
