This little museum is open 3 hours a day Wed-Sat from April through December. It's a 26 room…read moremansion and is apparently a required stop for Fremont school kids, as well as a popular background for photographs. Admission is $5 for adults or $1 for students; price includes a tour. If that's too much they have a Christmas open house in December which is free, featuring the house lit up, Christmas trees galore, carols and cookies. The displays are a combination of furniture from the period and random donations from Fremont residents; they change the theme up every quarter or so. When we were there the theme was school days; apparently the last theme was immigrants and what they brought to this country. Our docent was pleasant and the museum archivist very enthusiastic; if you ask lots of questions, the tour takes about an hour. Highlights include the music box in the second floor sitting room which plays metal discs the size of vinyl records; the bakery which was emptied and then reassembled on the second floor (next to a little post office branch); a vitrine of a former owner's fancy hats and gloves (including a set of garters with I kid you not, three dimensional feather flowers on them - must have tickled!); a full-scale dummy of John C Fremont himself, sitting in one of the rooms; a library with a bunch of musical instruments donated by a Fremonter who made a living with his "Musical Family" and a billiards room done up in whatever the theme is this quarter. So yes, it's a bit of a hodge podge. There's a little gift shop with Victorian cards; cookie molds; etc.; the garden is likely worth a look when it isn't November (note the log cabin in the back yard).
