I have been on a reading kick as of late. My wife and I were camping up in Prescott and took a day to explore downtown / historic Prescott. We stumbled upon this bookstore tucked back into one of the shopping areas. Sooooooo cool! It's quaint and it has that magical smell of old books and antiques without being musty. We explored every shelf here for quite some time and finally settled on this old murder / mystery book from 1931. Despite its age, it's in great condition. I picked up a lot of the old books and read some of their inscriptions which I love. To think what that book has seen in its lifetime and to think about the hands that at one point in time held the same spine that I am now holding... it's remarkable to me. There were a lot of awesome gems in this bookstore and I wish we could have stayed and explored a little longer! The shop is quaint, but it's very clean and very well-organized. It's not an antique shop with trinkets and knick-knacks thrown everywhere. It's definitely a hidden gem in Prescott and one I will definitely visit again! The Old Sage was my favorite bookstore in Arizona. I first discovered it in February 2012 and was an avid shopper there for almost 12 years. It looked exactly what a GOOD used bookshop should look like. Always a treasure - usually Old West Histories and a lot of Custeriana could be found. And Susan the propreitor was always helpful and very kind. Last time I was there was the early fall of 2023 - little did I know that sadly the Old Sage would be shutting its doors forever just prior to the last Christmas. Sure wish it would have continued another 12 years or more - with it gone a wonderful place on Whisky Row is gone as well. read more

I've been in this store many times on my trips to Prescott. Today, I found awesome "passports" from various fictional places that are designer notebooks, a Sherlock Holmes card that came with quote stickers, and vintage postcards - all decently priced. There are also a ton of used, collectable books as well as a few new ones. This is a very cute book store inside Hotel St. Michael - and there are a few signs pointing the way. This store is owned by a woman who was very nice and I was glad to buy from a local proprietor and fellow book lover. read more

Such a sweet little bookshop on Whiskey Row. We stopped by here on a recent day trip to Prescott. I went straight to the children's section and immediately found an wide variety of books. For $10, I purchased an old copy of Curious George and two Roald Dahl paperbacks. It's hard to find small bookshops like this nowadays but a visit to The Old Sage added to our wonderful afternoon up north. read more

I love this place. The books are of the highest quality and mindfully chosen. The owner is both knowledgeable and is an author herself. If you are looking for an interesting and special book this is the spot. A place of intellectual and emotional refuge. We need more bookstores like this one. May it prosper! read more
