The ladies of my family were taking a trip to Rocheport, MO and we decided we wanted some coffee. We didn't want fast food coffee so a quick search found this hidden gem along our route. Located in this tiny town is this amazing coffee shop. It's very modern but cozy. There's even a fireplace (electric) to sit by while you enjoy your delicious coffee. They have a ton of offerings. I love having conversations with genuine people, and that set the positive stage for our visit. I ordered the Old School signature hot coffee and a burrito. Hubby ordered a crime brûlée hot coffee and a burrito. Both coffees were delicious. I almost always have coffee regret when we taste each other's coffee, but both of these were noteworthy. We happened to catch a glance at the billboard along I-70 and made the decision to stop by. I am glad we did, we are greeted by a friendly face. The cashier's name was Michaela and she made an excellent Americano and honey oat milk latte. She also provided us with a delicious cinnamon roll. The old school was the perfect place for a pit stop - it was comfortable, spacious, filled with games such as jenga, and very clean. I recommend this place to everyone driving through, they even have a restaurant attached that looks amazing. There are burgers, chicken sandwiches, hearty (quality)American food. They were sold out of the breakfast sandwiches/burrito. They did have pumpkin bread the cashier swore by. I tried it and I was delicious. I am so excited that we found out about this coffee shop in Sweet Springs (and also mad that we didn't find it sooner!)! We stopped in on a holiday and they were open (yay!), which made for a great stop while driving back from the St. Louis area. The vibe and the space were amazing, I'm really bummed we aren't closer - it would be a great place to hang out. They have tons of seatings options and spaces that are great for visiting, meetings, or getting work done. The building is also part of a converted school, which is pretty cool. The space is operated as two separate spaces, though you can pay at either counter. My boyfriend tried the froyoccino - a blended drink with frozen yogurt, milk, and espresso. He picked salted caramel pretzel and dark chocolate as his flavors, and it was delicious!! I had an iced oat milk vanilla mocha. It was so good, but I'm a fan of oat milk. The upcharge for oat milk was a little steep at $1.50, but our overall total was around $8, so overall not too bad for a 16oz and 20 oz handcrafted drink. The service was great, we talked with the man working a bit. He provided suggestions about flavors, told us about the seasonal drink, and informed us about their pastries. They fill their own flour/oats, so it's all hand made goodies. The patio space out front was also beautiful. It's close to a main street, but seems like it's fenced in/sits up enough that it's separate. We will definitely be stopping in during our drives between the KC and STL areas! read more

This cool coffee and froyo shop has house made syrups, in house roasted coffee, seating galore and above all owners that care not only about a quality product but also about the community. We were super impressed by the friendly staff and look forward to another opportunity to make this a regular stopping point on every trip we take through the area! We ordered white chocolate mousse froyo with espresso poured over top, a cup of cookies and cream froyo for the kiddos, and an iced "old school" flavored latte. All three were incredibly enjoyable. Quite literally in an old school. When I saw the road sign I thought they might mean some old methodology of coffee making, nope of that! I had a froyocinno. I never heard of such a thing but I liked it. I was really surprised that I didn't taste any bitterness. I'm glad I stopped by. That stretch of I-70 is pretty boring it was nice to chill for a few minutes in this nice large clean coffee shop. When I asked the barista about the place he was able to give a bit of history about the building kind of surprised he knew all that. I saw the billboard about 5 miles out and since I love supporting the local coffee shops decided to stop in. So glad I did. The service was phenomenal, Chris told us about the origins of the coffee he was serving, pour over style! The coffee was smooth and tasty. I'm not usually a black coffee drinker but this one was definitely good black, no need to mess up perfection! I will definitely be back when traveling through. This is the second, suspiciously swanky and otherwise out of place small town coffee shop...connected with a Christian ministry. Is this a new recruiting strategy ("if you brew it, they will come")? The coffee can be very good or adequate, depending on who makes it (if you get the manager dude - you won, the pleasant young lady, less so). The ministry piece certainly isn't pushed...but still. And the facility is very large, modern, and pleasant. They have frozen yogurt on the frozen yogurt "side" but very few food offerings on the coffee "side". Again, suspicious (maybe they are going to feed you the body of Christ?!?!). I'm glad it's here...but I'm closely safeguarding my Jew gold just in case. read more

Super-cool, trendy and especially tasty place about one mile from the freeway... DEFINITELY worth the extra couple minutes. Covering a story in Sweet Springs (Hemme Bros. Creamery), we went to this place both days. I had the Philly cheesesteak (with bacon), which was 1/2 pound of fantabulous goodness with sweet potato fries (side of ranch, because I'm weird like that), and then the club today. The club has a little kick to it, a pleasant surprise, and though not as volumous as the cheesesteak, it definitely gets the job done pretty well. Today, I also hit the Old School coffee shop, and got what is kind of like a Frappuccino, but FAR better because it's actually made with soft serve. Mindblowingly delicious, and the perfect cure for a food coma. Bonus points to Old School for having a photojournalism exhibit in their spacious and comfortable seating area, which shows documentary photographs of life in Sweet Springs.
