The cutest little store! We stopped because we always see their signs when we're traveling through. We expected to just grab some fun cheese, but we didn't even know they sold sandwiches too! The staff was super friendly and made us the best sandwiches! They even made some lettuce wraps for my son who is gluten free! They also have lots of cheese samples try. A very worthwhile stop close to the freeway! The two cheeses I purchased, smoked horseradish cheddar and roasted garlic were fantastic and very affordable!! I wish I had read the reviews before we took the time to stop. Great signage and advertising along I-70. Unfortunately neither of us made it very far into the store let alone to the cheese in the back. The chemical fragrances that hit you at the door induced an almost immediate headache and we could taste the 'fragrance' in our mouths. I'm not sure what the owner/manager is thinking to have such overwhelming odors at the front of a food store. We would have loved some samples and fully intended to buy cheese to go with our picnic lunch, but the stench made us walk right back out the door. Avoid if you don't like your cheese paired with synthetic fragrances. read more

It's close to the interstate, provides great snacks while driving (it's not a road-trip without beef jerky), great locally made gifts for those back home, and most importantly - FREE SAMPLES! The prices are very reasonable for being a "tourist attraction" and they proudly feature products from Hemme Brothers Creamery - a righteously great maker of artisan cheeses and related products that is gaining Midwestern notoriety. It's always great to support DIY entrepreneurs and pump a little money into rural economies. We saw signs for the Cheese Store for miles and miles and miles and had to stop. It is cute, clean, and has every kind of honey, jam, cheese, you name it. The staff is friendly and helpful. We were surprised but thrilled when offered a chance to sample some cheeses. The young woman brought out a tray of individually marked covered cups of 20+ cheeses. She suggested using one end of the toothpick for one sample and the other end for the second sample. It made perfect sense. What did not make sense is when the other woman asked me not to put the toothpick in my mouth before sampling the cheese ; rather take the cheese sample off the toothpick before eating "so they could "reuse the toothpicks." WHAT? She said something about it being a state law. Poppycock! No state, city, or town would allow this kind of probable cross-contamination. We instantly felt ill at the thought of using a previously used toothpick. Unfortunately, that brought our up-to-this-point delightful visit to a crashing end. This toothpick policy is thoroughly unsanitary and disgusting, regardless of Covid. The lady who helpfully suggested the toothpick-saving-method was quite pleased with her suggestion. Urp. This dangerous and unsanitary practice makes us not recommend visiting here and if we could give zero stars, we would. read more

This isn't really a review, it's mainly just to clearify a review made on 6/4/2022 by Laura S. from NH. She stated how one of the employees suggested using one end of the toothpick to try a sample and then use the other side for a second sample. She then said that another employee (woman) asked them not to put the toothpick in her mouth before sampling the cheese but rather take the cheese sample off the toothpick before eating it "so they (meaning the store) could reuse the toothpick." I feel like there was some misunderstanding somewhere, we DO NOT reuse the toothpicks! Yes, we do ask our customers to stab the piece of cheese with a toothpick and take it off with their other hand and put it in their mouth so THEY can reuse the toothpick. We would never let a customer use a toothpick after someone else did. Nit sure but just a thought, maybe it might have been hard to hear because of other customers near by or the employee didn't talk loud enough. My name is Linda and I manage the store. The review I'm speaking of has really bothered me so I wanted to let her and others know we work really hard at keeping the store clean, safe and to do things right. So, so, so glad we stopped here on the way to Columbia. This is a don't miss place! More cheese than you can imagine of all kinds and flavors, along with lots of local Missouri wines, sausages, and other random treats- many locally made. We were here 10 days before Christmas, and got so many great stocking stuffers. The staff was so nice and accommodating- they give you free cold packs so you can take all the wonderful cheese home with you. They have samples galore, so we knew exactly what we were getting. There were so many places I could've stopped between Nashville and Colorado including a place that is specifically for taking selfie's that I thought would be really cool to do with my dog however I just wanted to keep driving that is.... until I saw all the signs for the cheese store. Fantastic store! So many great cheese options! I got a jalapeño habanero cheese curd bag. It was really good! I ate it at the beautiful cemetery down the road. It smells so good when you walk into the store, but not like cheese; they have many other really neat items. They carry some drinks here like Milo's tea and lemonade. I believe there was also an alcohol selection which I suppose would make sense at a cheese store. There are some precut summer sausages it sounded so good as well as many other snack items. The women working were so helpful and they have a really cool book put together on the process of making the cheese and things I think it would be neat for kids to check out depending on their age. We love being able to stop at this place when traveling on I-70. Fresh cheese, bread, and pastries among other goodies. We come for their variety of cheeses and wonderful bread! I'm not much of a sandwich eater and do not buy sliced bread on the stores because of all the preservatives thrown in. This store has fresh baked preservative free bread. You can definitely find a cheese for you! Soooo many styles and varieties. They support locally grown foods and you can also find local jerky's and snack mixes. I stopped in here while on a trip to see the eclipse! Man was I glad traffic on the interstate was backed up and I got a chance to pop in here! I was so glad to get off the road for a minute and just see something unique and cool. Also it helps that they sell cheese. I LOVE LOVE LOVE me some cheese! Upon arriving I saw that they hosted a small eclipse watching event and had quite the consortium of customers this day. Many of us popped in from other states of course. The staff was very friendly and attentive given the additional customer flow this day. I also enjoyed the variety of non cheese items that were made locally and available in the store! I love locally made products, especially when sold in a locally owned business such as this. Of course I sampled a handful of the cheeses they had. One to remember had habanero peppers! AMAZING hidden local gem right off I70! I'm from Wisconsin and the curds here run a stiff competition to wisco curds! And out-does us on curd variety... siracha, ranch, jalapeno, garlic herb, sour cream and onion, and amazing taco flavor! Lots of other local treats, yummies, homemade items, and some pretty promising-looking brats we'll be having for dinner. Most items seemed to be locally produced, including the cheeses! Being a cheese fan I was expecting to be surrounded with multiple cheese selections, but was disappointed to find about 20 different kinds of cheddar and only a small selection of other gourmet cheeses. Since we made the trip out of our way to stop here, we went ahead and got some dill havarti cheese. The cheese was really good but nothing that was over the top spectacular. We walked in and the gal working with the cute nails gave us the run down on these bad ass local cheeses; she was so knowledgeable about her cheese! They have free samples (all of them were amazing it was really hard to choose) but we decided on some siracha cheese curds. 10/10 would recommend. Also super fair prices.
