Lots of great equipment and a sauna which is a huge plus for me. Only downside is that it's usually very crowded.

The gym itself has a wide range of machines including customs made machines by Atom Steel the owner. Not only that but the gym itself is always clean with staff treating cleanliness as one of there biggest priorities. As far as the other reviews about racking weights go, if you want a gym that doesn't care about machines being ready for you then I recommend going to 24 Hour. Not only that but the community itself is incredible. Atom and Mel have built such a strong community and I've made so many amazing people and many friends through War House Gym. As far as the price goes. You get what you pay for. 15 for 24 and you get a crowded dirty gym. You pay 100 for War House you get. Clean Restrooms, Machines, Saunas, Cold plunges, etc. If you are in San Diego I highly recommend joining

I was bummed about this gym…read more Pros: music was good Overall the gym has a lot of potential. For a gym to not have water fountains is really strange to me. All of the bathrooms are out of date. Everything just felt dirty. The machines that are designed by the owner have potential but don't work for every body size/length. Sometimes you couldn't go heavy because you'd just lift out of the seat. No good benches at all. The dumbbells are such a huge grip and narrow widths Lots of tripods The turf was really not well kept. No parking, not the best area in San Diego.

I am writing to formally bring to your immediate attention a severe operational and safety failure…read morethat occurred at the Balboa Super Sport location in San Diego. On the consecutive late-night shifts of July 4 and July 5, 2026, the facility was left completely unstaffed for an eight-hour window starting at the 10pm shift. Operating a 100,000-square-foot high-volume fitness facility with zero employee oversight during these hours presents an unacceptable risk profile and a profound breach of the standard duty of care. In a high-risk environment of this scale, the total absence of personnel creates staggering liability. Had a member experienced a critical medical emergency, sustained a severe injury under a heavy lift, or had a physical altercation or security breach occurred, the lack of immediate staff response would be entirely indefensible. This operational gap placed both the members and the organization in a position of extreme vulnerability. Furthermore, reliable internal sources indicate that this lack of coverage was not a standard scheduling oversight, but rather the result of inter-club politics and regional friction between the La Jolla UTC and Imperial Avenue locations regarding sales credit allocation. Allowing regional rivalries and internal metrics to compromise basic facility safety and operational security represents a severe breakdown in leadership. Given the gravity of this situation, it is imperative that upper management intervene immediately to investigate this systemic failure, address the underlying operational conflicts, and implement strict protocols to ensure a facility of this magnitude is never left exposed again. I expect a prompt review of this matter to restore standard safety and professional oversight at the Balboa location.

She glances at me and starts talking to him again. I'm just standing there waiting patiently and I notice in my peripheral vision that she stares at me one more time. Decides to not even talk to me at all and glances back at him talking about things not related to work at all, lol. To grab her attention I had to glare at her to which the guy notices and points towards me to actually talk to me. She doesn't say good morning at all, or.. anything at all matter of fact. So I have to properly greet myself and let her know what I was there for, to activate my 3-day free pass. Three words only came out of her mouth; read the sign, while pointing at it. Yeah, no. I couldn't read it, BECAUSE IT WAS ORIENTED IN A MANNER THAT I COULDN'T READ IT. Those were the only three words that came out of her mouth, right after that she just went back to straight yapping which was hysterical. If I entered the gym and saw the huge pink sign properly displayed, maybe I would've read it and went "Oh gee, maybe I can't do this 3-day free pass thing!" I had to go through a solid 5 minutes of her glancing and ignoring me just for the big reveal that it was on a sign that literally in an orientation that I wasn't able to read when walking in.

Machines are a…read morebit dated but work (i.e. smith machine doesn't lock in place and shakes as you use it). I had a good experience up here until one night I got 3 back to back calls at almost 8pm on a weeknight. I called back after finishing up dinner and was told my membership is being canceled because I vandalized the gym (which I did not do). Long story short, another Asian woman at the gym used chalk to draw on the wall and they assumed it was me. I saw her do it so I was able to defend myself. I didn't get an apology and I expressed my disappointment with the way this was handled to the owner via email. If you look at any of their responses to low ratings you can guess how this interaction went. There was no accountability, ownership, or even empathy. Not a single apology for the abrupt accusation and also the misidentification. Instead they said that I don't respect their property. I wipe the equipment every time I'm done using it, I put the weights away when I'm done, etc. I personally didn't think drawing chalk on a wall was considered vandalism since you could just rub it off the wall. I also had never seen that woman before so I thought maybe she worked there and was drawing something -- either way it's not my business. There are cameras in the gym for a reason, why am I in the wrong for not snitching in this situation? The accusation itself was an issue that I thought could've easily been resolved with an apology and reassurance that it'll be handled with more care if a similar situation happens in the future. The way this matter was actually handled is even more disappointing and so unprofessional. I know I'll get a wild response from management for this review, but this is your fair warning that there's absolutely accountability or empathy coming from the folks who own this gym.

I went into the gym in person to cancel my membership and left believing the cancellation had been completed. Later, I discovered that my membership had only been frozen rather than canceled, and I continued to be billed. The situation eventually escalated to collections, and I ended up paying a balance for a membership I believed had already been canceled. My biggest frustration is that this entire situation could have been avoided with clear communication and proper documentation. If you decide to cancel your membership, do not rely on a verbal conversation alone. Request written confirmation, keep copies of all paperwork, and follow up by email so you have proof that the cancellation was processed. I hope my experience helps others avoid the stress, confusion, and extra expense that I went through.
