I think this place is now called Brookes, but won't be able to check as the credit card machine was faulty and I don't have a paper receipt to check.
Whatever the name, this is my favourite place on this busy road linking Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush.
It is perfect for a healthy home-cooked lunch. Yesterday's choice included mushroom and spinach penne (yummy), a delicious-looking pork strew (I don't eat much red meat but was almost tempted), prawn pilau and several more tempting choices. The daily specials are displayed on a separate counter in a similar style to Ottolenghi's but at a fraction of the cost.
Once you have placed your order, food will be served to you at one of the pine tables at the back of the shop.
You have a choice of interesting drinks from the fridge, a selection of freshly made juices, or free tap water - you can help yourself from a jug with ice and lemon.
It is also perfect for breakfast or afternoon tea; we were greedy and followed our lunch with pecan pie and lemon tart - both home made and wonderful.
I wish this place was on my way home, I think I would buy a lot of delicatessen
I'm very tempted to give 5 stars, but the service was not quite up to it, and I just don't like the all-too-obvious use of microwaves. read more
