Decided to try this place for breakfast after reading several great reviews. Since I'm staying in the Barnes section of London, took the 209 to White Hart Lane. Restáurant was right across from the bus stop. What a lovely place. We shared a breakfast. Orange juice and poached egg on an English Muffin with salmon. They actually separated our order and we each got our own plate which was well presented, and most importantly delicious food. The orange juice was fresh and so good. The poached egg cooked to perfection. The salmon fresh , and the English muffin good. I still prefer Thomas'. Haha. All in all a great breakfast, outstanding service and a truly charming place. I lived in London for about four months last year and had the pleasure of visiting various tea rooms during my time. Towards the end of my stay, a few close friends and I went for an Sunday afternoon Christmas tea. It was amazing and I cannot wait to go back! We called a few days ahead for a reservation for their Christmas tea spread. We arrived and were immediately seated at the back of the shop. The server was lovely and explained the menu to us, asked if there were any diet restrictions and then led us to the front to decide on what cake we wanted. I chose a lemon cake, my friends chose a chocolate and red velvet cake. Shortly they brought out a three tiered serving plate with four types of finger sandwiches on the bottom, the middle held our cakes and the top had three freshly baked scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam. Each serving came with a pot of tea of your choice. I decided to go with one of their seasonal teas, the "Apple Crisp". My friends went with the Chai and Christmas Blend. All for I believe £18? Everything was outstanding, from the service to the food! I left quite full and satisfied and with a few canisters of tea for friends back home and a few scones for myself. read more

A superb little cafe moments from the tow path along the river and a must stop on any trip through Barnes. On a nice day you can sit outside and watch the world go by, well the world of Barnes at least. They pride themselves on their enormous Tea selection and it is truly enormous, I think there are more than 100 options when you include herbs. Their coffee is pretty good as is their selection of cakes and pastries but the Macaroons are just unbelievable. Definitely a HIT read more

I learned the hard way not to go with people to don't 'get it'. Meaning, I like to enjoy my coffee and breakfast in peace with a newspaper, calendar or a book and sit outside if sunny and or inside tucked away in a corner. That said, my American visitors were slightly put off from waiting 25 minutes for an inside table for breakfast, which I would call good but standard. I think OP is famous for their afternoon teas, which we did not get the pleasure to enjoy. BUT the tea was superior and the server knew what to recommended. I was looking for a nice creamy tea with flavour and she knew just what to try. I have a very high standard of tea rooms. No really. I'm tea obsessed, I even worked on a tea estate for my gap year. Orange Pekoe delivers. Not only with the high level of quality in its teas, or the fact that they carefully monitor the brewing processes, but also in the wide array of delicious and healthy foods. I'll be frank, it is the quaintest most sickly endearing village tearoom you can possibly imagine. It truly is the kind of place where children frolic in gingham and adorable fresh scones are pulled straight out of the oven - sweet, fluffy and crumbling just at the moment one reaches for the second milky sip of assam. I am sure if you are not a pram-pusher or someone who leisurely sits with your Hungarian Wisla and pours over the weekend FT you might feel you should run a mile or at least keep a subtle distance from such an obnoxiously quaint establishment. As a non-pram pushing, dog-less woman, I can merely state that the tea selection truly is stunning and epic, and the coffee is frankly very good As for the muesli with stewed fruit, and the crave-worthy and moist carrot cake - all worked and ticked that (pretend healthy box) Once I overcame the initial fear that the entire room jeered at me as I stumbled in with lycra running leggings akin to wearing a letter A (for village adultress), I came to appreciate all that was good, not inexpensive of course, but good about its quirky walls, china and hangings.. I tend to believe that London is grossly underserved by solid brunch offerings and for the villagey Barnes; Pekoe is nearly a river-viewing escapist brunch/coffee/ tearoom where scones are perfect and the atmosphere is polite.. read more

This adorable and charming cafe always brings a smile to my face. EVEN when there's a bustling crowd waiting for a table or a takeaway coffee on the weekend. It smells so wonderful when you walk in, and all the decor is a feast for your eyes. Don't be fooled by it's quaint entrance. It's bigger than you think, as it extends far to the back with adorable little tables and cute displays. I recommend picking up some of their freshly ground coffee to take home. This is definitely one of the best places in London to get high tea. It has a great selection of cakes, sandwiches, teas and just scrumminess. I absolutely love it and would return more often if only it was just a bit more conveniently located. Their orange and polenta cake is scrummmmy and may just finish you off. I love the fact that this place is fairly close to me, and offers loose leaf teas, including oolongs and whites, and some lovely blends. and they brew it properly and take the leaves out of the pot before bringing it to the table, so no over steeped tea! you can also order just a mug of a few select teas if you aren't fancying a long sit & relax session. it is around £3.60 for a pot of tea, and around £17 for a full afternoon tea with sandwiches, scones, a slice of cake, and a pot of tea. The food I have had here was quite lovely, the smoked salmon salad being one of my favourites. the cakes and scones I have had also hit the spot. I've never actually eaten inside(though the interior is very "ladies tea house"), as I try to sit outside when it isn't raining so I can sit in the sun, read a book, and people watch. I feel a bit out of place here, but then again I'm not a yummy mummy with a £500 pram and an infant wearing D&G sandals. It always makes for excellent conversation eavesdropping and people watching. Yeah, I admit it, I am not ashamed! The servers that I had had here are always really helpful and friendly, but here's why this is only 3 stars and not 4. If i could give 3 and 1/2 I would. Never, ever should I have to wait 45 minutes for food that is not cooked. The past three times I have been here I have waited over 30 min for a salad. I personally think that is just ridiculous. My servers have been apologetic, and always made sure my tea got to the table quickly, but they need to sort out whatever is going on in the kitchen. The owners have a real love of tea and coffee - and beautiful cakes, and the decor is perfect to take an overseas visitor to... if downton abbey did cafes! Lovely place and lovely looking food as well, but the service truly ruins the experience. For potential customers, the tea sandwich per person portion is enormous (and this is coming from an American!) We never received the scones we ordered- as we were finishing our sandwiches and our pot of tea our server asked if she should put in the order for those. Um, yes, I thought we'd done that... 30 minutes ago. At that point we didn't even want them. Word to the wise: split the tea sandwiches, split the cream tea- ask for it all together. read more

Well, making plans to return regularly to Orange Pekoe loses me man points then you might as well stick a dress on me and call me Shirley now. Because this rather charming little tea room inbetween Barnes and Mortlake is an utter delight, and I can think of no finer place for a spot of brunch and the Sunday papers, let alone stopping by for a quick cuppa. Not that quick will be on your mind, especially when presented with a large booklet detailing the vast selection of teas. Black tea, green tea, China tea, fruit-infused tea - it's all present, and makes it hell of somebody has indecisive as me to choose. Returning will be the only way to get around it. My Lapsang Souchong was a perfect blend and my friend's Vanilla tea was delicious and refreshing. Topping off the experience is a rather perfect brunch menu, although the afternoon tea menu also looked delicious. It would have been a bit much to return a few hours later for this though. My eggs florentine were a perfect accompaniment to the pot of tea. Joyfully, as this is very much a local tea shop, it's not too expensive either. The cakes at the front of the shop also looked incredibly tempting (we went for some shortbread cookies to take on our walk along the river), and how can your heart not warm to somewhere that provides free bread to feed the ducks with. People of Barnes already know how lucky they are to live in such a wonderful part of London. Orange Pekoe merely reinforces this. In fact, it's probably worth walking the Thames Path just so you have an excuse to stop off here. read more

This is an adorable place for a delicious afternoon tea. I had their sumptuous silver needle white tea. They seem to know what they're talking about. The tea is made with filtered water, at the appropriate temperature (~70 C for white tea), infused for an appropriate amount of time (3 minutes). The result spoke for itself. read more

This is a really cute little coffee shop in Barnes which I love - I've been there about ten times and it serves cream teas as well as big ploughmans platters (good way to convince my husband to visit a tea room with me!) We took my father & mother in law when they were visiting from New Zealand last month and they fell in love with the place too. The only minus' are that there aren't that many seats and if you sit inside it can be a bit crammed. They also have plastic / doily looking table covers inside which they need to swap out for real linen table clothes as the rest of the fit out is very chic. Would recommend it :) read more

Cream tea for £17-25 each with your own tiered cake stand and a range of finger sandwiches, scones and your choice of freshly made cake. An interesting but small claustrauphobic cafe where waiting for a table will take at least 40 minutes. Yes, we shoul have booked. We waited and waited and fially got a table in a cramped little room by kitchen staff door which opened a thousand times at least during our tea session there. Very cramped. Very precious waitress/manageress from Eastern Europe. Nowhere to swing a cat and a toilet was so small and cramped frankly, this spoilt the enjoyment. The tea and scones were OK, not bad but nothing fancy. Very standard menu. Waitress had no clue what portions were served for one or two. The service is slow.
