Review Highlights - Grecian Kebab House

However, I am proud to say that the Grecian kebab house is the only such takeaway I have ever eaten food from sober.

The kebabs are the same as you'd get anywhere (yes, a whole lot of reconstituted lamb and goodness knows what else) but after a boozy evening it does the trick. They are renowned for their fresh, homemade chilli sauce which is better and hotter than you'll experience in most kebab shops. Onion rings are also good - crisp and plenty of 'em for £1.50. I can guarantee the place will be crammed with drunk students of a Saturday night, but seemed less busy and less rowdy than the burger bar across the road.

Why are kebabs always sold in houses? I suspect its something to do with trying to class up their…read moreact a bit. There's not need for this at Triangle Grill Kebab House, they do a good, honest (read that as greasy) kebab that's perfect for a moment of weakness after a night out. Their competition in the 2am food market is the nearby Hunger Hatch. That there isn't really much to distinguish the two. Like Hunger Hatch they'll cook you up whatever you like in less than five minutes. Again like Hunger Hatch I wouldn't let your eyes linger too long on the state of the kitchen, which most definitely isn't as enticing as the smell that usually pulls me in. Basically, the Triangle Grill Kebab House is a bog standard fast food joint, and there's certainly nothing wrong with that.

And it's not (just) the food that sets Falafel King apart. Walk down stairs and you'll find a hidden, middle eastern cavern of cushions, sequins and beautiful lighting that is like nothing else I've seen. The space is so nice and so well done you instantly forget that you're in Bristol. Just to the back of this room is a little Shisha Garden with pond and more cushions and bean bags. We came a couple of weeks ago and had some tea, then some food and then just chilled in the Shisha garden for an hour or so. It was so good! The food is incredibly fresh and the mint tea is so refreshing I could drink it all day. In fact, I found out that it wasn't actually tea, but a specific type of mint leaves, which makes me like it even more. I've eaten here a number of times and everything has been great. I particularly liked the mezze platter as it gives you the opportunity to sample lots of stuff. This would be such a great place for a different birthday or work party. It's definitely one of my favourite places in Bristol.

To be honest I'm glad we did, I absolutely love middle eastern food and this place was perfect. Everything was freshly prepared, their falafels are absolutely amazing and the portion size was great, whilst being healthier than other restaurants. I went for a falafel laffa which costs roughly £4.50 but was absolutely huge, it comes with 6 falafel, hummus, all sorts of salad and then a choice of condiment on top (I went for garlic mayo) I would say I have a large appetite and this left me feeling full, not bad for £4.50! I took a photo of the same laffa with my girlfriend to give you an idea of size. Being slightly greedy I also bought some of the flapjack which is partially dipped in chocolate for £1. To my eyes it seems to be the chewy granola slices from Sainsbury's finest range dipped in some milk chocolate, a bit of a mark up but still a nice idea. Would definitely recommend the place, I'll be returning soon. If only I worked near it, I'd go there every lunch!

Inside there's Japaenese style benches and stools which seems a little out of place here and the last place you want to be social with strangers is when you're about to chow down on a whopping big burger. Cheap, cheerful and with a good selection of vegetarian dishes I can't fault Yoyo burger. It's not fine dining, but it is what it is, and what it is, is tasty, hearty and authentic.

They had all sorts of gourmet options available (ostrich, wild boar, etc) though I just went for a quick burger and fries, being in a rush. The food was okay, though the place itself was a bit surreal, trying to give you the full-on Japanese buger bar experience. I've never been but it seemed authentic enough with a large communal oval table split into individual booth-like eating areas, each of which has its own TV screen pumping out MTV. Despite my initial suspicions it's not a chain either and I definitely intend on going back, though perhaps on my way back from a night out on the beers next time rather than on the way out.
