This is rumoured to be THE BEST kebab shop in Bristol, and if the cheesy chips (what was I thinking?) are anything to go by then it certainly has a chance in the running. Sliiightly more traditional than others, this kebab shop still maintains the familiar menu; including the usual kebab range, pizzas, chips etc. The owner is simply lovely, and very tolerant of some of the less than coherant individuals that frequent the takeaway. "Go to the Grecian", a friend told me when me and the boyfriend were looking for dinner around here. So, there we went, and my mouth gaped open slightly when I saw it was a takeaway kebab place! Takeaway? For a nice dinner? My fears died out soon though, when I was told that there was a proper restaurant above the takeaway. The restaurant did look very tacky-Grecian, which sounds awful, but it actually really worked and was a funny but pleasing environment to be in! The staff here are so very friendly; and are happy and proud to inform you of what they think is the best on the menu. The taramasalata was super here, and the pitta bread it came with was also so good. The boyfriend had their lasagna and you could tell it was made with much love. Big thumbs up. read more

Great kebab house just off Gloucester Road. I'd go to say the best on that stretch of road. Great service, good quality as kebab houses go and also do pizzas made to order, all at bargain prices. You can grab a cold lager or 2 to go with your meal as well which is a great touch. The pizza deals on offer blow the big chain pizza outlets out of the water and are freshly made in front of you. Some times there can be a little wait but it's a comfortable setting and generally there is a good bit of banter. I can highly recommend a large chicken sheesh kebab with salad, extra chillies and a bottle of ice cold Cypriot lager - Keo while you wait! Nice! read more

Ok so I try my best not to eat kebabs that much, after I'm sufficiently ploughed with alcohol I can usually presume that the giant slab of unidentifiable meat rotating on the same spike since 1982 won't go anyway to helping me feel better in the morning, however I had one of my larger egg-throwing (rugby) mates in town from London and he had already planned his trip to the Grecian before he'd stepped off the train. I had one of their homemade pizzas (the spicy option, whatever it was called...oops) that was actually very tasty. They make the pizza dough themselves from scratch for every pizza that is ordered, which is pretty impressive. And a pizza only costs £5, including some chips or a salad, a bargain so good I can already hear Barry Austin's thighs slapping together as he makes his way over to Cromwell Road. But they are definitely a late night food vendor who seem to care a little bit more about the quality of the food they serve. read more

You can't beat a good kebab, a bizarrely this is a place that I've walked past for years and not been inside. Well that was until last week, when after a few drinks, I decided to sample the delights the Grecian had to offer. It's a large and bright takeaway, with lots of chose from - including Greek classics and even pizzas, as well as kebabs - but a kebab was the order of the evening - so I tried their regular Lamb shish - cooked fresh, with plenty of salad and all the little extras you'd expect from a good kebab shop. the meat was cooked over charcoal, and was delicious - and next time I'll be going back for a large one read more

This is my absolute fave kebabbery! I always have a chicken sheesh and it comes with loads of yummy salad on a pitta! Kebabs have got a bad rep but these are practically healthy if you ignore the sauce! I heard they do a mean pizza too but I was a bit disappointed with the one I had. Could have just been an off day though. It's a more classy, authentic kebab house compared to the classic metal counter outlet! It's got some wooden decor and the guys working there are really friendly considering they must have to serve the Gloucester Road rabble at night! They deliver as well. We once had a kebab delivered to the waterfront on a summers day because we were enjoying dangling our feet over the edge and really fancied one. Greasy greasy Grecian. Far too many nights of mine have ended with cheesey chips or some other horrifically fattening dish taken from here. The correct procedure is then to either a) stumble home and get it all over the carpet, or b) drunkenly flop down on a bench or garden wall and stuff your face. The service is a gruff, friendly greek man who unfailingly remembers to ask me whether I want salt and vinegar or not, and has probably seen most of Bristol drunk at one point or another. If you're feeling really adventurous you can try the pizzas and kebabs on offer. I've always spent too much money to afford them by the time I make it to Grecian so I can't endorse either. They're in a similar vein to the other food (fatty and plenty of it) as far as I can tell. Grecian is good. Forget about your diet and have some comfort food here. read more

Kebabs are usually the fodder of the dribbling drunk, who may forget they have eaten them all together the next day, were it not for that tell-tale smear of chilli sauce, or breath that can kill at 20 yards. However, I am proud to say that the Grecian kebab house is the only such takeaway I have ever eaten food from sober. And then eaten it there again. The chicken shish is really good quality, really well-prepared and the owner is always really generous with the other fillings. You can also ask for houmous and hot bell peppers in your pitta pocket and there are different size portions to choose from. It;s a shame they no longer do the Greek sausage Sheftalia, but you can still ask for other specialities like dolmades (stuffed vine leaves) stifado, moussaka and kleftiko. And there are yummy baklava for afters. Of course there is the usual fare for the drunkies- burgers, chips, doners etc but the kebab house also does a range of pizzas to take away, including the Nicosia which has haloumi on it. Am I the only one that doesn't come here for the kebabs? To me the Grecian is about one thing and one thing only: the pizzas. Made fresh to order with a large range of toppings to choose from, this is the prefect place to go on a sunny day to grab a pizza and walk to the near by St Andrews Hill to chow down. And that's not all, for the price of a fiver your pizza comes with a choice of chips, salad or garlic bread. The salad is basically a bag of lettuce so I normally plump for the garlic bread but the choice is yours. As all the pizzas are made by hand to order, it can take a good ten minutes from ordering to coming out of the oven but the guys here are happy to let you wander off and come back, or ring ahead to order in advance. There is a restaurant upstairs though I've only ever taken away, and judging by the other reviews on here I may well have to come back here after a night out for the chips! read more

At 6 pounds for a large (or 3.50 for a small) kebab, this is not the cheapest take away of its kind in the area, but certainly the best. Moreover, there is a good selection of Greek specialities and puddings, and an excellent range of pizzas. The staff are friendly and the service is fairly quick. A lot of people regularly visit the Grecian, and I wouldn't go anywhere else in the area for a kebab. There is a pleasant enough restaurant upstairs, but this is a lot more expensive. read more

The pizzas in the past have been a bit salty, but still at only 5 pound a time its definitely worth a go. Ive been known to enjoy the taramasalata and salad in pitta bread. Pretty famous around Bristol, the Grecian's another above average kebab joint which does mighty good pizzas. Situated just off the bottom of Gloucester road, on the way into town, it's perfect stumbling-home-for-a-quick-bite position for anyone who dwells around the Gloucester Road/North Bristol area. It's family run, so you're likely to see the same faces behind the counter fairly often, who will whip you up anything from their pretty tasty, but slightly greasy, standard kebab list, chips, or, if you make your way to the another counter (yep, there's two...that's almost high tech for a kebab place) you can order the pizza options instead. They used to have a solely pizza place further up the Gloucester Road, which was also pretty good. Prices are pretty standard. If you're peckish and in the area, give it a go. read more

My boyfreind is a firm fan of the Grecian. You won't find him going anywhere else for his pizza. They are good value, and you get a free garlic bread or chips with them so you can see why. They have an extensive range, and are usually pretty quick. They aren't the best pizzas in the world, don't tell the BF, but I do enjoy them! read more

They make the best pizzas in taste (they taste even as good the next day cold, that's how good they are!) and with a value that is unbeatable! Their kebabs are also amazing! The chicken one is marinaded in saffron I believe which gives it a smell and taste to die for. Also this kebab place goes against all prejudices that kebabs are bad for you: s**t ones are for sure, not this! What you get is a pita bread, a marinaded chicken/ lamb skewer and masses of salad (cabbage, lettuce, cucumber etc). You can only choose to have the lemon dressing on top, which makes it very healthy! read more

I'm a long term Grecian customer, having utilised the service while in varying states of inebriation, and quite often entirely sober. Right so here is the score. Back in its heyday the Grecian was a totally different beast. The staff were friendly; the food was a lot better. You could get a pizza, which was amply topped and a lovely salad for 5 pounds. Then The Straightener came on the scene. He's a bloody tyrant. look for him when you next frequent the place- he's about 7 foot tall, built like a moderately sized brick shit house, looks a bit evil and he can often be seen bullying the staff and being rude toward the customers. Well he sacked all the nice staff and employed a load of miserable minions who kind of mirror his general vibe. The Straightener stopped topping the pizzas properly and all the portions got smaller and quality slipped Now you only get a tokenistic portion of chips with your pizza instead of the salad. BUT it is still better than most, the pizzas are something like a 6-7/10 as opposed to a 10/10 that they were. The kebabs are still great though- prob the best in Bristol (I've eaten a lot of kebabs around the country and the Grecian is the closest you can get to the more authentic ones you find up north). If the staff were actually nice to you, or even tolerable I would have given the place a four or five star rating, but given that it pains me to give them my money every time I go in there just because of how bloody rude they are, I stretched to three stars. In summery if you don't mind giving you money to a set of orible bastards then you could do a lot worse for you money than go to the Grecian. read more

I went in the other night and was told after I paid for my really bad portion of cheesy chips that I had not paid. this was an absolute lie. I only walked in with 2 pounds knowing the price but the guy serving me the chips just had a problem with the world. he was extremely miserable and when I saw how few chips he put in the box I asked if her could just fill it up properly. after he basically shouted at me to move on I did sarcastically say 'well you've been really helpful mate'. so anyway I'm eating my chips outside when the two people working came out and insisted that I didn't pay and not to come there again. I tried to explain that I had paid but the reality was the miserable chip guy had had a word with his mate and wanted to be even more of an A hole and ban me. The worst place i have ever eaten food from. very aggressive atmosphere with regular punters, rude staff, a massive hurry to get your order in and poor quality food on the whole. Usually the Grecian is really good but my boyfriend and I ordered a pizza for delivery tonight and they messed up my order - anchovies instead of artichokes. Didn't realise until I took a bite and my mouth was full of revolting, salty fish. They have dissolved into the pizza as well so the whole thing is now in edible. Took forever to arrive and when it did it was also stone cold when it arrived. Massive waste of money and time. Don't think I'll be going back any time soon. read more

The guys were rude as anything in the first place....And I think they thought I was drunk because they also tried to convince me a tiny square box constituted a large portion. I asked them to show me what they served a "small" portion in and they got all angry! And obviously - additional salad was not an option at all. Have always been a big fan of the Grecian as the number one pit stop following a good night out and regularly get deliveries takeaways. BUT last night sat 19th Feb I was DISGUSTED. not only was the food all wrong and I didn't get the pizzas I ordered, the drinks never turned up either but we were also told that for a £20 note he had no change!!!
