We arrived at the Orchid House Winery for brunch at 12:30 on the most beautiful Sunday of the summer. It was sunny, 75 degrees, no humidity, and not a cloud in the sky. When we pulled in the driveway the facility presented very nicely. However, there was a bit of confusion involving the valet service. This was remedied quickly by a polite young man and we headed inside. We entered the establishment and were quite impressed by the layout and decor. Immediately to the left was a large party room where a wedding shower was taking place with all the predictable noise and frivolity. I was pleased to see they were having a great time but I had no desire to sit near that raucous crowd. The very nice young lady at the hostess desk checked our reservation then escorted us down a short hallway to a separate dining room that was wonderfully peaceful... just the low murmur of people enjoying conversation. Upon entering the very spacious room I was quite impressed. It was open, airy, bright and comfortable with a fabulous view of the surrounding gardens. There was plenty of room between tables making it easy for everyone to maneuver around without disturbing anyone. Now I must pause here to apologize and explain... I was so enamored by the facility and grounds by this point, I started taking pictures both inside and outside. And I completely forgot to photograph the food we ordered. If you visit their website you will see some nice pictures of everything... food and facility. Well, we were joined by our brunch guests by this time and we sat and perused the menu. We were greeted by a very pleasant young lady by the name of Camey. She said she would be our server and asked if we would we like to place a beverage order. We did so and she disappeared for just a moment before returning with our libations. She asked if we had any questions and proceeded to take our food order. We sat and had a marvelous conversation, all duly impressed by our surroundings. And in a short while several young people showed up with our orders. The presentation was excellent. Everything looked so fresh and appealing. I ordered a simple Avocado Toast but it was anything but simple. Breakfast and/or brunch is typically quite boring to me. I mean how much can you do with an egg and toast? Well somehow the kitchen made all the offerings we received look exceptionally appealing. It really was on par with everything else in our experience thus far. We enjoyed or meal and followed it up with a good cup of coffee. After paying our check we told Camey we were going to stroll the gardens and she said "By all means. Please enjoy yourself". We exited through a large sliding glass door directly into a beautiful garden/woodland setting. It was as if the grounds had been divided into individual rooms. There were tables set up for outdoor dining, sheltered areas as well as a marvelous covered pathway that led to a large circus type tent set up for a wedding reception. It really was all so surreal... just marvelous. Well I guess you have figured out this establishment is definitely on our "Hits" list. We will certainly be returning. The Orchid House is absolutely beautiful. The ambiance is cozy and rustic farmhouse. It feels a lot more posh than it actually is and we really enjoyed that. Our server was excellent and very attentive. I had an outstanding mocktail and my girlfriend had a regular cocktail that she loved. Monday evenings are all-night happy hour and they have a great selection of appetizers and well as $4 off cocktails and glasses of wine. Food-wise, I thought it was more like a 3.5 star. Presentation was beautiful but none of the food really impressed me. We tried the bruschetta, meatball, and the salmon. My friend liked the salmon but I wasn't crazy about the polenta with the meatball and the bruschetta was overpowered with Gorgonzola. For dessert, she had the creme brûlée and loved it. I had the chocolate chip bread pudding and found it to be dry and dense. I only ate about half and took the rest home. I'd come back again but I'd try different dishes. read more

I miss Thorn Creek! We came here for our anniversary because we were back in town and had loved Thorn Creek which was at this location before. This place is NOT that. Be aware the term "winery" is used very loosely. Our waiter couldn't describe the wines or the wine making process. They don't do tastings...they just have some place in Napa make the wine and they slap their label on the bottle. One of the least interesting Pinot Noirs I've ever had... The eggplant parm seemed like it was probably heated up from frozen. Not impressed with the taste. The building and grounds are beautiful but service and food are both bland at best. read more

I visited yesterday for the second time. The first was just for drinks and we really enjoyed the wine. We had dinner last night. I ordered the strip steak medium. It came out well done and charred. It came with a side of mashed and broccolini. They were nothing to brag about. I was over hungry, so I did eat a small portion of the meal. Half of the steak was completely burnt and truly not edible. Although I never complain at restaurants, I did this time. The manager came over and said he would take care of it. He brought out a dessert for me take home that I didn't want or eat and the full price of the meal was still on our bill. Not great service in my mind. I will not be back for food. If I didn't enjoy the wine or atmosphere I would have given one star. read more

I used to go here when it was Thorncreek and Dankrona before that. And I haven't been to this variation in a number of years. Wow! It has grown and remodeled in to a beautiful place. A lot more high class than I expected. Not bad just was expecting the same casual vibe. It's more upscale. Most of the wine choices are dry. Unfortunately, I am a sweet girl and sweet wines. So I opted for a cocktail I got the brown sugar old fashioned. It was good. But I thought it would be slightly sweet, maybe in the finish. But it wasn't. It was good. Just not what I thought. Not their fault. We also got the butter cake dessert to split. It was very good. Prices are around $13-17 for a drink. Both cocktail and wine glass. Food looked good but I did not try except for the butter cake. Food seemed a bit pricey from the menu. The decor is very modern and slightly farmhouse. Very spacious and up class. The outdoor area was always very nice and landscaped. However, it was dark and I couldn't see the grounds. Our server was nice. The hostess was kinda rude. Like we were bothering her when we walked in and asked to have a seat. That was kinda surprising. I'd try again. We had an absolute phenomenal experience here. We were drawn for Cleveland Restaurant Week, so got to enjoy three courses. It is a fancy ish, pricey ish restaurant but worth the money and the vibe is awesome. I prefer seating in the back area with the windows and bar vs the bright area right when you walk in. The food was amazing. When the one dessert came out sub par, the server made sure to replace it. The server was excellent!! The manager checked in with us too. The Ariancini balls were the highlight dish. Bolognese dish was small, and personally not worth the price in my opinion. But the rest was great portions! The place is stunning, an unexpected oasis on a random road with beautiful decor and grounds. Unfortunately, the food isn't great. The mussels were un-fresh and the dish lacked the curry flavor touted in the description. Other appetizers were ok... Nothing special. My main issue (aside from the disappointment of the mussels) was that everythibg was served barely warm... And we were the only diners at the time. I asked one pellegrino and 3 glasses and received 3 pellegrinos. Ordered the charcuterie board but asked for more variety of cheese as we couldn't have the meats, but we're told that the restaurant only has 3. Arancino was okay. 5 of us received the main course, but he 6th person's meal was only brought out after most of us had half of our main course (so timing for the kitchen was way off). The ambiance was 5* and the food was outstanding. For appetizers , our table of four got oysters, fried artichokes and fried shrimp, all of which were good. My wife and I ordered filets for dinner and they were perfectly cooked and tasty. The service was horrible. We ordered a dozen and a half of oysters as an appetizer, and they only brought out 6. After we were there for an hour, we had only received our appetizers. We waited another 45 minutes until they finally served the salads at the same time as 3 of the entrees. They finally brought the 4th entree out about 10 minutes later so our friend just asked them to box it to take home. We planned to order dessert but had already been there for 2 hours. Not receiving salads before the entrees, not receiving all entrees at the same time, and spending 2 hours for a dinner without dessert is ridiculous. read more

We had wanted to drop into Orchid House Winery since it was sold to Sapphire Creek. I used to go to the old Thorncreek Winery, and we loved the warmth and atmosphere. Their food was excellent, and the outdoors was lovely. I'd sit outside. So, we attended a candle-making event as a way to do a look-see. I was disappointed. The new place is very contemporary and cold-looking on the inside. It's okay, but the old winery was so warm and beautifully executed. Many people in our group had the same impression. The food we ordered was one hour and thirty minutes late! When we returned to ask, they were disorganized and yelled at my companion, "Can't you see the kitchen is busy!" The weird thing is everyone else's food came out, and they had to cook their dishes or reheat, probably reheat, and we ordered a charcuterie. Isn't that odd? The charcuterie was lacking. Three crackers and a couple of stale bread sticks, two nuts, some cheap pickles, and bland cheeses. It wasn't good. We didn't have enough bread or crackers for one person, two, or the large container of jam they placed in the center. Everything was wasted on the board. I guess they expected us to eat it in hunks. The calamari was decent, but the hot peppers used were, without warning, too hot, and we had no water, and our drinks couldn't be refreshed. All in all, I'd say it was a fiasco and a nightmare. I'm giving it three stars because the candle-making event was cute. Oh, and when they took everyone's food orders, they didn't write anything down, names or tables (who, what, where, when)? So they had this gal go around with a notebook and rudely interrogate people over what they ordered, ate, or drank. Some people already left. We were still eating. This was an utterly dysfunctional and crazy experience. I've never seen anything like it in my life. Having the winery so close at hand, I hope they iron out their issues. read more

Food service and ambiance. Four of us came here to see about booking for a wedding shower for 60 people plus. That's about impossible to do as they won't book it until 3 mos before. In case they get a bigger wedding party. Somewhat disappointing as that's too last minute not to be able to schedule. The food was fantastic. The wine was very good, which isn't always the case, considering it's northeast Ohio wine country. The place is beautiful. Service was great. The only other drawback is that we live an hour away and they had live entertainment- only accessed by wine club members. The place was terrific. Not the experience expected... We were a table of 9 on a very busy Friday Night. The good: the building and grounds were stunning. The drinks were good and the dessert was delicious! The halibut was also good. The bad: the room we were seated in was very large and very loud, conversation could only be had with the person next to you, and that was still difficult due to noise, just something to consider if you want a conversational dinner. We had to ask the waiter twice for water refills, I had asked for an extra salad dressing and it never came. Three of us had the same $22 salad and none of them had enough lettuce in them to fill the bowl (it was more the size of a side salad). One of us had about a half of a chicken breast on their salad, I had 4 pieces so burnt I left some in my bowl and they looked like they were thrown on as an after thought. Definitely not a $22 salad. The ugly: our waiter told one of our guests she was a "loser" because she was sitting at the head of the table. It was said jokingly but was very off-putting. When ordering dessert the waiter said he was a slut for cheesecake and when asked if there were nuts in the crust of a dessert, said "I would assume so", with no offer to go and ask, no questioning if it was because of an allergy. When asked to go and check by the person who made the reservation who was upset by how he handled the question, it ended up that there were no nuts. At one point he asked if we hated him. It was unexpected and bizarre service for a nice restaurant. I cannot see myself going back, nor the friends I was dining with. read more

The food is very good. The ambiance is very good. The service is very good. Unfortunately, it's a winery, and the wine is awful. If you don't drink, this would be a great place to try. Same if you like beer and cocktails or if you think Manischewitz pairs well with everything. But I'd rather drink a random $9.99 bottle of wine from Trader Joe's than anything served here. (Same problem with the original Sapphire Creek in Bainbridge - same wine). The foregoing is honest - if you are coming here for anything other than the wine, you will probably enjoy yourself. I'll come back if I want a meal without wine. If "winery" wasn't in the name of the establishment I wouldn't be writing this review. The "Orchid House Restaurant" (where we allow you to bring your own bottle of wine) would be one of the better restaurants in the area. Food and wine was way better than when it was Thorncreek. I had the lobster roll which was delicious (served on a croissant, so not a typical lobster roll). Mushroom flatbread was really good and so was the lobster pasta dish. Wish there was a burger option and/or red meat option on the menu. And (as a suggestion) an option for a charcuterie board would also be great. I know the new ownership started not too long ago...hoping we are moving in the right direction. Where do I even begin?? I'll start by saying that there is complimentary valet parking and the venue is beautiful. My issue with this place was actually with the wait staff. We unfortunately were served by a super sassy/rude individual who I was informed is the manager (Manuel). For example, my mother ordered the short ribs. They were supremely fatty (you could see the chunks of fat with little meat). She informed Manuel and he responded stating "well, I didn't choose the cut of meet so...." YOU COULD VISUALLY SEE THE HUGE CHUNKS OF FAT throughout the whole plate. I could go on and on about the other server because he also sucked (he is better suited for Applebees) but I digress. Reposting since my review was taken down. Apparently a review based on facts is frowned upon. As another reviewer stated less than 2 weeks ago, "where do I begin?" Let's start with the positives. The building is beautiful. I had never been to its predecessor but I had high hopes after seeing the beautiful interior. Outside was equally pretty. Our server was very nice. He knew nothing about the wine that Orchid served and very little about the menu. I attribute this to bad training. Otherwise he was very attentive and friendly. Now the negatives. Parking is a major issue. We arrived early in the week before 6 and there were no non reserved parking spots left. We were told to parking in a members only reserved spot. The wine is among the worst I've had. I sampled four of the six whites and could only drink one of them. I've tasted a LOT of wine in my day as a sommelier and general wine enthusiast. It takes a truly bad wine for me not to be able to finish a 2 oz pour. I couldn't finish them. I really can't believe this place is a winery. I'd love to meet their wine maker(s). As far as our service, he was great, but he couldn't tell us anything about the wines and he had never tried them. My advice to him - don't!! The food. Wow. I had short rib gnocchi and as another reviewer mentioned, the beef was in chunks with more fat than there was meat. The mushrooms in the sauce were from a can and the gnocchi was a squishy mess. The dish was topped off with onion straws from a canister. Oh, and it was $39. My dining partner had the burger and fries. The burger was 100% previously frozen from a food distributor with fake grill marks included (like Ponderosa steaks or Ball Park frozen burger patties). I'd be surprised if the patty even touched a grill. Fries also previously frozen. $19. My advice to anyone curious about trying this place. Don't. I can think of at least a half dozen restaurants within 15-20 minutes at similar prices with amazing (fresh!) food and nice wine. read more

This place has a ton of potential but as noted in a few other reviews, the service and staff are absolutely abysmal. Without a doubt the worst meal I have ever had in northeast ohio or maybe the whole eastern half of the country. Out of four meals two were horrible. The other two were salads.
