First time in Winnipeg, so obviously first time here. I'm so very glad we found it for breakfast. Getting in is somewhat difficult as parking is anything but plentiful in front of the restaurant. There are a few street spaces, but after that you have to go behind the restaurant and across the street to Earl's restaurant to find a parking lot. Once in, though, all is good. Competent, personable service. The coffee is good and the portions are huge. I ordered an omelet, actually made as a frittata. It was excellent. Between the large omelet, portion of fried potatoes, and the three pancakes on the side, I took home half my meal to have as another breakfast tomorrow. Ditto my wife, who ordered the "small" giant apple pancake, which is baked, not griddled. The small version is still the size of a standard dinner place and almost 2 inches thick. I can't even imagine what the regular size would be. All the food we were served was delicious. When we return to Winnipeg, this will most certainly be the site of one of our meals. read more

Not sure why the review average is quite low for this place. I came here for brunch recently and thought the overall dining experience was great. The giant apple pancake (yes, it's GIANT, don't underestimate the size of it) was something to die for. Delicious on every front. The interior felt very homey and comfortable. Service was friendly but a bit on the slow side. Not good for if you're in a rush. The main reason for the one star taken off is not only because of the slow service, but also because of how hard it is to find parking if you're eating here. It looks like they tore down the parked that used to be here for whatever reason. My friend and I ended up having to park at Polo Park's lot and walk here. Not the end of the world but certainly inconvenient. On another note though, I love the little shop they have where you can get squishmallows and other kinds of candy and treats just before you leave. I also found the prices to be quite reasonable compared to other breakfast/brunch places. Other than those minor problems, I'd certainly return here as I definitely enjoyed my time eating here. read more

From what I saw, it mainly caters to hotel patrons with not a lot of locals; most go to the one either at The Forks or on Pembina. Despite the fact I came during dinner, I wanted the all-day breakfast here. Not surprising, right? I went with the deluxe hangover omelette, despite me not actually on a hangover. The omelette was decent. About the same quality as The Forks and (in my opinion) slightly lower than the Pembina branch. One thing that constantly irritates me about the Pancake House though is the lack of flavour in their foods. They all either tasted similar or it was not fresh at all. This may explain the lower prices for the food though. Service was excellent, a lot less chaotic than The Forks branch for sure. However, the Pancake House just isn't a place that I would frequent unless I specifically want pancakes. There's other local breakfast joints that are better unfortunately. read more

The price is definitely right for the food here and it's super convenient if you're staying at the Clarion because you won't even have to go outside. That being said, the food isn't very good. The eggs are cooked in some sort of oil, so they slip and slide all over the plate. The rest was just okay. They do offer gluten free pancakes and waffles which I appreciated. I had the pancakes one morning and the waffles with strawberries one evening. The strawberries that came with the waffles with pretty mushy but the waffle itself was good. Any food ordered from Clarion room service is also from the pancake house so be aware of that. The place itself is clean and the staff are friendly and don't hover. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but it does okay in a pinch. read more

Been a customer of this restaurant for almost 40 years...and now, I'm done with them. Went two days ago, and my favourite Swedish Pancakes have been taken off the menu. You can imagine my disappointment, as they were always my very first choice for a menu item. I know that friends have had the Belgian Waffles in the past, so I thought I would use them as a fall back. So not a good choice. They were NOT made with Belgian waffle batter (which is sweet and very light, so that when you pour it on the waffle iron, it gets crispy immediately) but made with pancake batter, which made the waffle mushy in the centre. The shape of the waffle was odd as well, rectangular, without the usual deep wells that a Belgian Waffle is supposed to have. I sent it back to the kitchen, explaining the change in batter/mushy-ness. At this point, I was almost out of my mind with hunger and disappointment, so I ordered toast, watching my hubby eat his perfect sausage and egg breakfast :P. When I spoke to the 'general manager' as I was leaving he insisted that the waffle was made correctly, and over my shoulder, I did remind him that no matter what, the customer is always right, and arguing with me was not in his best interests in a busy lobby. No Swedish pancakes, so what's left on the menu in the way of 'specialty' pancakes? German, Dutch Apple, Crepes and Potatoe Pancakes (latkes)... Hope those who love them get there soon, before THEY are taken off the menu... read more

There is no reason for anyone to get the Giant Apple pancake. I got the "baby" version which I still couldn't finish and with the money I saved downgrading I got a side of bacon. Service was a little slow but we were sitting outside on a beautiful morning so it can be forgiven. Average pancake house. Nothing to write home about but we were glad to come across it before a day of adventuring. read more

Ordered on line for 9 people, delivery by Door Dash. The order was pre-ordered at 9:00 AM, to be delivered at 11:15 11:45 AM. Got phoned by Door Dash at 11:30 AM saying that the Original Pancake House had cancelled the order (prepaid) and it would not be delivered. Door Dash apologized, offered no compensation, and did not even comprehend that a 6 and 8 year old child and a 94 year old woman great grandmother would not get food on time. The Original Pancake House has made no attempt to contact me or explain. I went to Tim Horton's ordered a bunch of breakfasts and fed everyone. An absolutely terrible lack of service and response by the Original Pancake House!!! Everyone should avoid delivery by them and Door Dash. read more

Went here for dinner after a 30-minute boat tour got my appetite going. Place was practically empty when we went we thought it was closed or something, but it was open fortunately. The prices here are quite high, but I would expect it from a place like this. The service was above average though so I enjoyed that. We got two dishes, the potato latka pancake and the french crepe. The Potato Latka pancake is probably one of the best tasting things I have ever had. It was light (not oily) and I was inhaling this slowly because it was flavorful. I suggest you get it with both sour cream and apple sauce so you can mix the two and see which one you like better (I liked 25% apple and 75% sour cream). They have an option for $2 more for bacon, but it isn't worth it for 2 strips. It does not really add much to the dish, the pancake is lightly salted so it does not need any extra salt. The French Crepe which we had for dessert was an utter disappointment compared to the potato pancake. Come to think of it I haven't had a good dessert pancake/crepe in Winnipeg since I arrived, I have to fix that soon. I think it is just a poor choice. It is basically a crepe stuffed with strawberry jam and some sauce. Totally meh. Overall, I would still come back here, even if it is pricey just for the potato pancake again. read more

Mostly good news. I came here so that I could talk over breakfast with my sister-in-law. Waitress was very efficient. She came quickly to take our order. She was attentive and responsive without "hovering". Food came very quickly and hot and tasty. I had the Mexican Omelet. The peppers were hot as advertised and the salsa gave it a cool balance. My complaint was the noise. Now this was Sunday and the restaurant was full by the time we left - and there was a line at the door. But the ambience was terrible. Rather than have sound deadening ceilings and walls, it was almost the opposite. The sound was amplified and we could hear people from tables quite a distance away. As the restaurant filed up, it was impossible to hear. Perhaps that was by design to encourage turnover, but unfortunately it worked! Ill not be coming back. read more

It was told to me like a local legend, the Apple Pancake did not disappoint. There was a magnificent cinnamon (of exotic origins) crust on the top which lent itself to a chewy texture with the pancake and juicy apples. The only downside was the long weekend wait (maybe it was compounded by this location being attached to a small hotel). I have never been to this location and I ordered Chicken Fingers and Fries which I ordered through "Skip the Dishes" I called the location and spoke to GM ( Rob) at the Polo location and advised him my fries were cold and I received this tiny cup with a lid for the coleslaw. The GM just laughed at me!! He didn't ask how he can make it right, just laughed. Great Job you're doing Rob! I'd hire you in a heart beat to manage my staff!!! read more

I'm a breakfast person and I on this particular day I wanted pancakes. I order blueberry pancakes because they look so delicious in the picture. Shame on me for thinking it was going to be the exact same as that picture. The pancakes were greasy and tasteless. Blah! My boyfriend, not so much a breakfast person, ordered the hot turkey sandwich and a bowl of mushroom soup. Of course, when we dine together we "taste" each others food. The turkey sandwich was good. Could of used more gravy, but good. Fries were good. Mushroom soup was....GREAT!!!!! I loved it. It was homemade and possibly the best mushroom soup I had. I definitely recommend it. Good food, good service, good prices. It is a clean place to go to. Local, and serves a variety of very well prepared foods. From breakfast to lunch or supper. we all enjoyed our meals. My husband and I ate here with our two children. They have quite a large menu. Our server was excellent! So cheerful and happy! Plentiful refills on soda BEFORE we were even empty! All the staff genuinely seemed happy to be there. Our food was SO delicious! Order the Giant Baked Apple Cinnamon Pancake. You won't regret it! We will definitely be back! read more

The menu is phenomenal , our favourite breakfast used to be the Giant Apple Pancake but we have learned that the menu has lots of hidden gems. The Los Cabos omelette or crepes are to die for and the veggie or ham pancake is a close contender. Although nothing beats the service we receive from Marlo and the host Erin. They take care to make sure our meals are to our satisfaction and that my coffee cup never runs dry. If you are looking for somewhere to have a relaxing delicious enjoyable meal I urge you to try the original pancake house Clarion and spend some time being spoiled by their service. read more
