This place has really gone down hill year by year, for the last 6 years. Most recently, I've never felt so controlled and annoyed by a few young, clueless peeps. They couldn't answer questions we had about cocktail items. The garnish in my selected cocktail was so big, it could have adorned the front hall of a Barbie dream house at Christmas. We were approached at a point that bordered on harassment by the young, naive waiter--incessantly interrupting our conversation in one of the tiniest, intimate public lounges in NE. Awareness was severely lacking. The bathroom is now unspeakably stinky and dirty, reeking of urine. The tiny hand washing area is tattered and dirty, trash was spilling over the edge of the can. This place was near and dear to my heart for such a long time. I worked in the building and watched it be built from the ground up. I had a first date here that turned into an engagement here...but it sadly is not what it has been. Instead, it was a place with well crafted drinks, but the atmosphere is awkward and the staff was chastising people for "being loud." Just happend to find this bar when looking forward a place to meet a friend in downtown Lincoln. One word.... Dope! The entire experience is something different. I couldn't even find the bar at first but after asking was directed to look for the "big door by the blue light". When you knock you are greeted through a metal peephole and asked how many are in your party. Getting out is equally interesting. You have to push a button which releases the super large door that is discussed to look like a bookshelf. Inside it's a tiny but beautifully designed space that can only accommodate 25 people. The drink menu is incredible unique and the drinks taste delicious. The whole vibe was really cool. Felt like I was somewhere exclusive. I will absolutely be back again to try more drinks. Update: I tried to reach out to the establishment to find some sort of peace, but have received no response for two weeks now. I would've been willing to remove this review had I just gotten an apology, but that ship has sailed. Trust me, DONT GO HERE. First off, I have heard glowing reviews from most of my friends, and admit that I am partially responsible for my negative experience. The drinks were fantastic, and the environment was fun. This was my first time visiting this space, and the vibe was excellent. I am somewhat hard of hearing, so I tend to not always realize how loud I talk and I have somewhat of a booming laugh. I understand that I misread the room, and was a little louder than the vibe of the room. I was informed that a waiter had asked me to be a bit quieter, but I don't remember that interaction, so if that's the case, that's my bad, but it felt like the bartender was covering. The reason for my 1 star, is the fact that I was publicly reprimanded by the bartender for at least a minute. I have never been more embarrassed at an establishment in my life, not just myself, but the three people at the table with me. I am not the type of person to drink too much and be problematic. I would've preferred they quietly ask me to leave than just be yelled at by a bartender across the room. It felt like it came out of nowhere, and the entire room went absolutely silent as the bartender took the time to tell me that I am ruining other peoples experience by laughing too loud. When I approached him at the end of the night and said, "the way you spoke to me was not acceptable" his response was, "yes it was". Really sad that I won't be going here again, because my coworkers and friends generally love this bar. I have just never been so disrespected and publicly embarrassed before. read more

I finally made it here on my dirty thirty after years of knowing this place existed...and cannot wait to go back. If you're looking for a legit cocktail, come here. I didn't even order off the menu. Next, it was a Jamaican rum pink hibiscus perfection, complete with an edible dried hibiscus flower. I wish there were pics, but that's part of the fun of this place. I'm positive it'll be a different experience every time. WATCH them make your drink. The bartenders are amazingly talented in this craft. My husband got a drink with actual smoke diffused in it. Very, very, very fun place. Perfect for a small group or couple. This place is in an alley across from Buzzard Billy's and you knock on the door. They may or may not be able to let you in right away. You might have to wait. Our group didn't have to wait. Ms. KaDeja Sangoyele Was our mixmaster, and she was absolutely amazing. She sometimes tastes her drinks to make sure they are spot on - obviously with a clean spoon. I just love her style. The place is one small room with comfortable seating. Music track was nice and at a good volume for discussion. Cost for drinks are about $12 for very high end labels and artfully crafted drinks. I've lived here in Lincoln for three years and everytime I tried to check this place out there was always a line, which speaks to its ultra coolness. Finally we hit it on a night right before the rush. Down a dark alley in the haymarket you find a door with a pretty sweet knocker. If the porch light is green you're free to knock. If red, you'll have to wait for admittance into this mysterious hideout. The atmosphere inside is eclectic with various interesting pictures on the wall and dried flowers in vases sprinkled here and there. The lighting is low adding to the mysterious effect. The dark wood beams of the low ceilings give it an intimate feel. There are some rules to abide to. There's no photos or phones permitted. Darn it, guess you'll have to actually have a real conversation! Also they have no wine or beer, just artistically crafted spirits. Watching the bartenders make the drinks was literally more fun than drinking them. With the randomly shaped and colored bottles and jars of liquors and bitters on shelves behind them you feel as though you've just stepped into an apothecary. The menu is unique and the drinks are delicious and intriguing. More than likely you'll end up with either a fresh flower in your drink or have it lit on fire; either way you won't find any commoner beverages here. Have to say that have I not left a bad review on this App before. We loved the bar and ordered multiple rounds of expensive dirnks, which we were fine with, and thoughly enjoyed. After a point in the night a man came to us and said they he had warned us 3 times to lower our voices and this was our last chance. He had not asked us to lower our voices at all. The bar was very loud and we were not any more boisteroius than anyone in the bar. I would also say that we had spent a considerable about of money, which is fine, we understand. I would have to say if you have people in your bar spending money why would you ask themn to leave. I was visiting a friend in Lincoln and she told me she had a cool place to take me.. Being from SoCal and a huge cocktail and food person, I was skeptical. But wow was I proven wrong. Lincoln Nebraska has it!!! I ordered one of their classic cocktails, and front porch I believe it's called. And was in love, however the incredible bartender overheard me describing my love of ginger. So next round, he created a drink custom for me. WOW WOW WOW..this drink. I jokingly named it "Tears Of The Angel" because it was literally my perfect dream cocktail. I mean I could drink one EVERY DAY it was so damn good. THAT is what a true mixologist can do. They can use their abilities to make magic happen, and they did that here. I cannot recommend this place more!!! I must come back to Lincoln soon, and hit up The Other Room!!! read more

Came in to celebrate a special occasion in my life and was treated to the best cocktails I've ever had and some solid conversation thrown in. Its not a place to go if you're wanting to get "turnt", it's a toned down and mellow place with an expectation that you bond and conversate with the people you're with or with others in the room. It's a refreshing change of pace that I will be going back to in a heart beat if I'm back in town. Keith was my bartender and the dude is a rockstar, I prefer more herbal drinks and he steered me in the right direction.
