Grabbed a drink at alchemy after dinner while in Lincoln. Honestly, it was probably my least favorite stop of the weekend. The place is super cool- love the spooky vibe, especially for the fall! We got there fairly early and it was pretty empty. I got a cocktail that had tequila and cucumber with some spice. It was good, but I felt like the bartender had to look up the ingredients multiple times. My friend's drink tasted watered down. If you like a whiskey neat, they have lots of great options, but I'd go somewhere else for a cocktail. read more

I had a great time in downtown Lincoln the other night visiting some family. We stumbled across this cocktail bar called Alchemy. They had all sorts of fun names for their cocktails. The one I ended up picking was called Rut Row Raggy which was a gin based cocktail that was absolutely delightful and refreshing. We ordered up at the bar and the drinks were hand delivered to us at our seats. There was all sorts of seating to choose from including couches, luxury leather chairs and high top tables. There was also beautiful stained glass all around the room which felt like an old magical castle. They also had great music selections to match the atmosphere they were trying to creating. Alchemy definitely had the low light speakeasy feel to it, which I always enjoy. I'd had a rough postpartum and was so excited to finally get out and enjoy my first night out after having my baby, but because we had him with us, we were turned away. We came to enjoy time with coworkers and our son was asleep in his car seat. What a fantastic place! Conveniently located in the original downtown Haymarket in the old pharmacy building. I love the interior decorations which really remind me of Harry Potter mixed with Game of Thrones. The drinks are kind of pricey but worth it! Great service and swanky place. If you want bourbon variety and also a place you can feel welcome, this is the place. Walked in and had an hour and a half coco with a regular about life. I was here a few times pre-Covid and really enjoyed the vibe. The decor is more steam punk than medieval alchemy but it's still a really neat place. However, we just went last week and instead of a swanky moody vide, they were playing more of a pop type music and the clientele was less sophisticated than usual. This establishment is exactly what Lincoln needs; a great place to go for drinks that does not have loud music and a tv on the wall. We stopped on our way to dinner in the Haymarket for some drinks. I had a Manhattan and Marie had an old fashion. Both were extremely good. They used the right cherry for the drink and kept our water glass full. The atmosphere is nice. Stain glass windows and lots of neat stuff on the wall and on shelves. The help was great and made sure we enjoyed our visit. Please stop by and try it out. You will not regret it. read more

Didn't really have the best experience at Alchemy, despite the vibes of it seeming very much my speed. I went on a weekday in the early evening before I had to catch a movie in town, so it was fairly low volume with just a few groups hanging out in the lounge chairs and a couple of dudes at the bar. One of the bartenders was off the clock, but just hanging out, I suppose? No problems from me on that, take your time off where you want to! The service industry is rough. The other bartender was taking care of the rest of the house. Now, with such a slow and casual house, I was not expecting to have to wait as long as I did. I was sitting right at the bar and was acknowledged when I entered, and yet I waited almost twenty minutes or more to have the working bartender appear to take my order. She was just...gone? After that, I didn't even bother trying to order another drink because it was another half hour to have her acknowledge me again when my drink was finished despite walking by me multiple times. And yes, I am using my base of comparison as other cocktail bars I have been to, including one across the street. My standard for service is not astronomically high, I just don't expect to feel ignored, especially at a place that tries to sell itself as elegant and impressive and with cocktail prices like these. The three stars are given because the drink was amazing!! Wow, what a hit. I got the item with the honey whiskey, green tea syrup, and black pepper bitters. I'm sad I wasn't able to order more because there were so many other delightful sounding drinks I would have liked to try. The bartender was also friendly and when I was able to speak to her she was nice and helpful when I asked a question or two. Just the service attentiveness needed some work. The vibes were just kind of...off in every way. They didn't fit the decor of the location at all. Some of the other patrons were just being really obnoxious and awkward. So Alchemy, despite its outward appearances and promises on the website (which needs to be updated, they have a whole charcuterie and dessert menu and cocktails listed that aren't being served currently), didn't really deliver. Anyone who wants nice cocktails with an average everyman bar type of vibe, this is the place for you. Don't go expecting a classy, dark academia/gothic/witchy tone in anything other than decor. The drinks here are good. The ambiance is dark and faintly attractive in a new made to look old hobby lobby way. It's loud and if you're sitting outside, expect to have a lot of cigarette smoke wafting around. The three stars are for the fact that I left my credit card after paying one evening and called to check on it. As the strange new standard goes with young business owners, no business phone. Just someone's cell voice mail. I left multiple messages multiple days to get my card back...of course, a week later, the day after I ordered a new credit card, he finally called back and said he has my card. I guess it's too expensive to have a local land line number in the bar? Huge pain and quite frustrating. Customer service could be greatly improved upon. read more

Went here on Saturday night. We arrived around 10pm. The place has a great atmosphere and is an "adult" place to have a drink in the Haymarket. BUT, we ordered our drinks directly from their menu and 3 of our requests they told us they didn't have the ingredients to make. They said they were out of the alcohol to make them. How do run a bar and have an extensive menu and cannot make the drinks? Also, prices are a little high but understandably for the Haymarket. You can get the same drinks at half the price at Barrymore's. read more

Highly impressed with alchemy. This place puts the former establishment that resided here (Doc's place) to shame. They have done an exquisite job in remodeling the entire venue. Think gothic style/Halloween/Harry Potter themes. It is one of those places that makes you feel like you AREN'T in Nebraska but tucked away in New York or Chicago or some other big city. Also kind of reminds me of the Berry and Rye in Omaha. They offer speciality drinks, including an assortment of martinis, Moscow Mules and classic twists on old fashioned and manhattans. Prices are on the high end (8/9 and up for a drink) but worth it for the quality of drinks you receive, great service and ambiance. They are not stingy on the amount or alcohol in your drink. I got a grapefruit jalepeño mule and loved it. A great drink to sip and enjoy while conversing. The mule glass was decorated with octopus legs on the handle. My husband got one of those strong whiskey drinks I cannot handle but he seemed to enjoy it. Others tried the Reese's peanut butter cup (dessert shake) and a martini. Everyone seemed pleased with the experience. Staff would continue to check on us even when we did not need anything and were getting ready to go. They seem to have a specific type of uniform but I could not piece together what it meant. A great addition to the Lincoln Haymarket scene. The bartender was so knowledgeable and made great suggestions and promptly answered all of our questions. When we asked how long she worked there she said only 3 weeks!!! Drinks were amazing. I stopped in a couple days ago after work and I was blown away by the whole experience! Both of my drinks were phenomenal, and their whole cocktail list looked marvelous! I was also very impressed by the atmosphere and the staff. The bar and surrounding decor are beautiful, and I could tell the bartender (pardon me, mixologist) took a lot of pride in his craft.
