The FNP Thanya tries to pretend that she knows what she's doing and when to ask her to elaborate she gets VERY defensive. She told me I have chronic tailbone.... Super unfortunate. A staff member, Martha, at the AZ Pain Center was rude and combative. She was my first experience after waking up. She told me in the future I would forgeit my right for anesthesia because my driver left. She met with me accusations and was extremely demeaning. I did not even remember having juice in my hand and was literally just waking up. I have to advocate EVERY time with Jenna (anesthesiologist) to get zofran. No one listens... it's a turn and burn practice with little empathy for those suffering with chronic pain. Do BETTER! read more

This doctor is absolutely trash. Every time I walk in he doesn't even know who I am. I'm a very outspoken person so I definitely call him out. He only wants to give out these weird a$$ prescriptions that are for depression and anxiety but then this miraculous drug seems to help with pain. Yea right. I called today to ask for ibuprofen and sat on hold for an hour and a half. Finally I opted to leave a message. The rude lady called me back and said she would ask the doctor to prescribe ibuprofen and if he's willing to do it then I'd get a call from my pharmacy later. Well day came and went and I didn't get a prescription. If I asked for the voodoo drugs I'm sure he would have broke his ankle writing that prescription so fast. Just read all the reviews on all the other platforms this weirdo is a joke. I have been a patient of this facility for over three years and in the beginning, I received quality care by a professional Physician Assistant. In the past year, I noticed the care declining and my pain needs were not being addressed. Upon the departure of the PA, the care took a terrible decline. Narain will remind you often that he is the "Doctor" but fails to listen to your needs. After a medical surgery to place a spine stimulator recommended by the PA (Which is working amazingly), Narain prescribed an experimental drug which he failed to tell me that is was an experimental drug nor did he discuss possible side effects. When I questioned Narain about the medication I again was made aware that he was the doctor. At a post surgery follow-up he discontinued my pain medication because there was alcohol in my system during a urine test. This was all good as I was intending to discontinue this medication upon the placement of the spine stimulator. As he was leaving the exam room, I had to ask if he was going to remove the staples in my back at which he responded with, "Oh Ya. Guess I can do that". Totally unacceptable from someone who is quick to remind you that, "I'm the doctor". If you are experiencing chronic pain, do yourself a favor and continue to research a doctor who is truly concerned with "YOUR" needs. I had been seeing the same pain management doc for about 14 years, unfortunately, he had just retired and had me see Dr. Narain. I have had several failed back surgeries and was on an opiod regime for almost 20 years. I saw Dr. Narain today, he didn't listen to a word I said and kept trying to sell me, no force me into in-house surgery and refused to refill my prescriptions. Now I am forced to go through withdrawal and put my health and life at risk. His assistant basically I was a drug addict. They refused to follow my established treatment plan. Anything more than one star is a FAKE! Jarrett M. Leathem, DO spoke to me for less than five minutes then left the room, giving me no information and no idea what was next. I get call a few days later asking for my MRI, and then I was told I would have to do it again since they prefer some other place. The one I had done was not done by the place they like. They then said they needed it so they could schedule the procedure, I said "what procedure?' As it seems Jarrett M. Leathem, DO scheduled me for an epidural without consulting me, and without seeing my MRI. I said no way and asked my primary doctor to find someone else They called me back twice more with the same line of crap, hey needed me to get an MRI at the place they like to schedule the epidural. Again I explained I had an MRI already, no one discussed any procedure with me, and felt they are incompetent. I got another call later that day from a smug lady who said "we are terminating you are a patient for the way you spoke to us" I told replied "what a joke, I already FIRED you" This place is a con job ... Dont go there and never trust a doctor who does not believe in consulting with his patients before sticking needles in their spines This place is going to end up killing someone Jarrett M. Pain Center of Az- Gilbert- Rome Street Location. I feel like this practice is on decline. Started with Pain Center around 2003 at PHX Biltmore location so have seen several of their doctors and PAs. I would say over last 5 or so years the long time docs and PAs have left and have noticed several re-surfaced at a different new practice that has a Gilbert location. Are used to be able to get procedures done at the Gilbert office but now you have to travel to Arizona surgical in Tempe and most procedures require sedation in a driver. I refer to epidural shots and two radio frequency ablation procedures.. I have seen more issues with getting prescriptions refilled as some of them require pre-authorization procedures between the doctors office and insurance company for long-term prescription refills. This has been messed up for me. The last three times this has been required and causes delays and getting prescriptions refilled. The thing is I never had to intervene in this process until the last few years as no one seems to take care of it like they did before and the last time I was told it was my responsibility News flash to me. If I know the rules I can play by them.. I would give less stars on this review if not, for the fact that this practice used to be good at taking care of things and now they are not. My 6-18 RFA appointment may be my final encouragement to start looking for another pain management practice. These procedures require checking in 1/2 before appointment and to have a drive sit and wait with you.. no drop off and come back for pick up. Waiting 2.5 hours to get to the point of getting a procedure done is unacceptable (go to back room, review history, get prepped for IV). If a doctor has a valid reason for these kind of delays for approximately 25 to 30 people in a waiting room, I would like to hear it, apparently this delay was happening all morning so a call should have been made advising patients to arrive later. Not enough seats in waiting room for all the people waiting. If this was an over- booking scenario, even more unacceptable. Can't eat or drink prior to procedures and one person was diabetic, I had to pay my riding service more money and my driver had to re- schedule one of her appointments. Doctor should respect that their actions or practices have domino effects. One person had to get home to care for elderly parent by a specific time. My procedure and after care felt rushed in the staff's attempt to herd people through and make up for being so far behind on appointments . Unacceptable, I am going to start looking at other pain management practices. My last prescription refill was a mess and the 2nd time an insurance pre- authorization was messed up. Seen quite a few doctors and experienced PAs leave this practice over last few years and this may be last huge red flag. No one wants huge waits and feel like a spinal procedure is being rushed ...with no concern after the procedure for increased pain and nausea. In past I was given additional nausea medication as part of recovery care and no concern for escalated pain. Several questions about was I ready to get dressed and apparently get out so they can herd people through. Very disappointing process and many people in that waiting room felt the same and heard at least 4 say time to look for another doctor. Many elderly had their children there with them, saying ' hey Mom, hey Dad.. we may need to look for different doctor. I am definitely considering looking around. they treated me horrible and rushed me out of the office doctor left room within 1 min wouldn't listen or review records on first appt. refused to help treat me I'm a chronic cancer and SLE lupus with severe bulging discs and a compressed nerve to my right dominant hand in pain all day and can't do normal day to day activities or work a job due to the pain I'm dealing with and my health. no help, no care plan just refused to treat or didn't prescribe any medication.i called to talk to management and tried to work with them and no call back even. read more

Zero customer service. I was 15 minutes early for my new patient appt instead of the optional 30 minutes the office suggested. I was told by the front office person I would have to reschedule my appointment because I needed to fill out paperwork. I decided to fill out the paperwork to get it out of the way for the rescheduled appt. It was finished in time for my scheduled appt time. The office still refused to see me. There were 5 people ahead of me, so I would still have been waiting to be seen past the time of my appt. This is just wrong. Why is it okay for the office to make patients wait past their appt time, but a patient who is late for check in but ready by the appt time cannot be seen. This action has made me rethink becoming a patient at this office regardless how good the doctors are. read more

I have been coming here for almost a year. I have DDD and herniated cervical spine and lumbar spine issues. I love Dr Leathem and Joan Cacciola FNP. My injections have always been painless and I've never had any issues and Joanie is so compassionate and really listens and strives to help me find solutions !! Be warned that it is next to impossible to talk to a person on the phone. Over 3 days, I called 7 times. Although they say, if you don't want to wait, "press 1 and we will call you back. You won't lose your place in line but additional calls may delay the call back." I did that last week and waited 5 hours and the only call back I got was from the first call. The woman I spoke with could not answer my question so she said she would call back. She never did. The rest of my calls were totally ignored. My husband had an appointment there yesterday and the doctor prescribed some totally worthless pain medication. He has taken every 6 hours as prescribed and has had the worst pain he has in a week. I called this morning and stayed on hold for 55 minutes, they said they would check and call me back. No call back by 2 pm so I called them back and I have been on hold for 1 hour and 17 minutes so far. At this point, we wish we had chosen a different clinic but we don't want to start over again getting all the referrals Blue Cross/Blue Shield requires in order to have surgery. read more

BEWARE. I had seen Dr Leathem until he left the practice, then was assigned to Brice who is a NP or PA, one of those. After an initial visit where he literally didn't even look at me, I messaged him asking about please changing up my routine (it wasn't working), to which he said no. So I messaged again asking what I should do, and they said to make an appointment, which is what I did. Then while I was waiting for my virtual appointment, the office manager called and said Brice won't see me because I "was harassing him by asking him twice to change the medication routine." I was floored--how in the world was that harassment?? I asked, then when he said no, I simply asked what my options were and what I should do from there, to which they said to make an appointment, which I did. Just unbelievable the amount of arrogance and uncaring from Brice specifically and somewhat from the office. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS, especially this guy. They meet with you, start you on some needed medications, and then before you know it...you're getting pressured into high-cost procedures under sedation (dangerous procedures, might I add) by them threatening to withhold your medication refills, while harassing you with a phone call every 3 days to schedule the procedure just to make an extra buck!!! I have been a patient with The Pain Center since 2011. I have had a few doctors throughout my time there. Being in chronic pain is a HORRIBLE situation to be in:-( especially if you have pain and then have to fight and have others BELIEVE you have this pain. I have had two fantastic doctors who have helped me cope and even been advocates for me:-) and have and still help my life better. Joanie Cacciola and Rick Allen. People who truly care about helping people in pain. Pain Centers should use them to teach others on how to treat people in chronic pain. PS the front offices ladies are great, also. PLEASE READ... If I could give this place a thousand negative stars I would. One reviewer said Dr. Siwek is great, well, if personalities didn't ruin your life I guess so. I had RF ablasion from him. He went straight to RF when they are supposed to do all the OTHER necessary options first. This treatment is supposed to be the last. They didn't give me any steroid injections, nothing. I learned this the hard way. I am now so damaged that I can barely move. He went in and burned my nerves on the right side of my lower back. 3 hours after the treatment I had the worst numb but stabbing pain (like if your arm goes to sleep) from my right hip over my right cheek up to my lower back. It wouldn't let up and I could not even have anything touching my skin. Not even a sheet or cotton ball, nothing. It feels as though its sandpaper on me. The pain is so excruciating. I begged them to see me the next day when they opened and the PA's said oh, it will get better and had the nerve to say "but I still think you should have the other side done" WTF??? Then they said as I sat there balling my eyes out that I would have to see a neurologist and its not their fault. I checked my insurance paperwork and it says they charged the anesthesiologist over 10k for the one procedure. (it was a 15 min proceedure and there were 4 other people in the recovery room next to me, like cattle). Now its clear why they are doing it immediately. I have now seen 3 other doctors. They informed me he damaged my nerves so badly they may not ever heal back. One of my Dr's who is Dr. Fedoriw said he has 3 other patients this place have damaged and one has no movement in her arm and has already been fired from her ICU nurse job. I have been on light duty for a year now and my job may fire me because I cannot do my full duties. I am on 800 mg. of gabapentin 4x a day which is the max you can take. If I stop taking it I cant move and I can possible have a seizure. I could file a law suit but I have seen a lawyer and they said it would cost me more time and money that I don't have and to take on such a huge company would be futile. My life is ruined from this Dr. Please Please let my horror story keep you alive and safe. read more

I have no complaints about this place. I show up for my appointments on time, they are quick to see me and hear my issues. Most of the front desk ladies are pretty nice. I've seen 1 doctor and 2 practitioners who are very thorough. The rooms are clean. There's always parking. I've never had a problem getting my medication. Other than it being about a 25 minute drive from my home, no complaints at all. This place is a more "get in, tell me your problem, have a nice day" kinda place. You won't form that bond with your doctor here like you would with your primary doctor. It is a pain clinic, not a family practice. read more

The most amazing medical team in Arizona! I was born with stenosis of the spine, then at age 12 I was diagnosed with arthritis, something that was aggravated heavily by my dancing, sports, gymnastics and everything else hard on your body that you can think of that I had been participating in since the age of five, till the age of about 20, when the issues really became almost unbearable. Then in 2007 it became absolutely unbearable and ruined my life. With degenerative disk disease, stenosis of the spine and arthritis leaving me almost bedridden in my twenties, the hunt for help really went full force. I have been to countless doctors in Arizona and Hawaii and was only given the option of medications. Some doctors called me a drug seeker, even after I told them I did not want drugs, to not write me prescriptions for drugs, just fix what was fixable. Some doctors would prescribe the drugs anyhow, then would accuse me of selling my drugs when my urine tests would show I had not been taking the drugs. I would have to show them the unfilled prescription and beg them to take me seriously, I wanted it fixed, not medicated. It didnt matter how strong the drugs were, they didn't help, so why take them? Other doctors simply stated that they didnt know how to help me, I appreciated their honesty. It was really discouraging and extremely hurtful, I felt like I would be stuck in this hopeless downward spiral till the day i died. If you are looking up pain specialists on yelp, I dont have to tell you how physically and emotional depleting chronic pain is, and I hope you also find the same success I have. It wasn't until I found the Pain Center of Arizona I was finally given options to fix the problems, not just treat the symptoms. I finally found a place that was willing to try and fix the problem, not just give me drugs. My first appointment was about a year and a half ago, with Bonita Jones. I will never forget her. After my appointment with her, I sat in the parking lot and cried for almost 30 minute straight, she was the first person to take me serious, it was the first time I had felt hope since childhood. She and the team at The Pain Center of Az. had me enrolled in physical therapy immediately, with a therapist who had a serious understanding of what I was going through and had the tools. Bonita wanted me to have my therapy done in a heated pool, where my muscles would not be stiff and the almost weightlessness of my body would allow me to build strength. She was spot on. She and the entire staff at the Pain Center were involved in developing a plan of attack against the things that had been destroying me, it really was a group effort! Rick Allen, Bonita Jones, Steven Siwek, Ramoun Jones, Steven Adler, Sachin Narain as well as all the nurses, the admin staff, anesthesiologists and medical assistants worked their butts off to make sure we conquered... we went through various types of injections, nerve cauterization, nerve blocks and non-invasive things of that nature first, it only makes sense to try the less invasive procedures first, then move on to more invasive things if necessary. Not only does it make medical sense, but my insurance company was not about to pay for an expensive surgery before trying the less expensive options first. When all of those procedures proved to help a little, yet simply not take the pain down enough, we moved to other options, one of them being a spinal cord simulator implant. We first went through a trial period with the simulator before doing the full implantation... What a miracle. Again, I cried like a sobbing baby, again from hope but also relief. I was able to walk like a normal person, the leg and back pain decreased by about 60%. We then moved forward with the full implantation. Even with full blown post operative pain, I was still in less pain than was my normal. My implantation was completed Oct. 31st, 2016, today is Dec. 7th, 2016 and my life is almost completely normal now. I still have some pain, but not much. This last Thanksgiving was the first Thanksgiving I was physically able to cook my family Thanksgiving dinner. it was nothing short of amazing. Not only did I make us the most amazing meal ever, I was also able to dance on pointe for the first time since 2007. My spirit is back and so is my love of life. I wish I would have found them sooner so I could have enjoyed my twenties, but late is better than never and at least I get to enjoy the rest of my thirties! I owe it all to the team at the Pain Center of Arizona. They truly care. They fought for me when it came to my insurance, they fought for me when I was ready to give up, they gave me hope, they made me feel human again... they have been fantastic every step of the way. I know time is against me and my condition will only worsen with age, but I KNOW that as long as I have the team at the Pain Center by my side, I will be ok. read more

Took 4 days to get prescription sent to the pharmacy and they never attempted to contact my insurance about a procedure I was supposed to have. I have been a patient of The Pain Center Of Arizona at the Gilbert office for over 6 years. The folks there are compassionate, responsive and empathetic to one's condition. I don't know how I would function at the level I do without their services. Constant, Chronic pain is one of the most difficult and challenging medical conditions to live with. I have to respectfully disagree with one reviewer stating "You won't form that bond with your doctor here like you would with your primary doctor." I have had the same provider for over 6 years and we frequently discuss events (both happy and sad) that are occurring in our lives. I have also come to know most of the staff who have been there for some time. They are always pleasant and helpful. I am grateful that TPC in Gilbert AZ exists. read more

This place is ridiculous. They routinely overbook and schedule appointments so close together that when you come in for your appointment they're backed up hours at a time. Once again I've been currently sitting for an hour and a half past my wife's appointment time and she's not even been seen yet. This is typical of this place. Time is money, we lead lives just as busy as yours. This is 2018 and it's fast paced, which is the reason fast food rules the world. This absolutely wouldn't fly in any other industry.
