Wanting a healthier lunch we got just one order of fish & chips this time and one of beet salad and…read moresplit them between the two of us. Both were excellent. The fish was hake. This was easily the best of the four fish&chips we've tried so far in Ireland. Outstanding actually. The batter had the most perfect crunchy texture, wasn't too thick, and it adhered well. The fish was just-off-the-boat fresh, flaky and cooked just right. The portion was enormous - two fillets, one large and one medium, with a relatively small portion of good fries. The tartar sauce was tangy with tiny chopped pickles. Vinegar was available at the table. This was served with a small salad of lettuces, spinach, scallions, and onions. Price was surprisingly low given the portion, right around average for fish&chips in our experience so far. We ordered the entree salad with the locally made goat cheese add-on for a small extra charge. More excellent leafy greens, beets in small cubes, pomegranate seeds, picked onions, candied nuts and plenty of chèvre in large pieces. It was pre-dressed with vinaigrette and drizzled with balsamic vinegar. Very good, a far better choice for us than two orders of fried fish. Also on the menu were 3 other kinds of fish (monkfish, black sole, and plaice), each prepared differently. Shrimp scampi, seafood au gratin, and steamed mussels rounded out the seafood section. Oysters are on the menu but they weren't available that day. Other than seafood there were also burgers (beef and veggie), chicken wings, soup of the day, chowder, a steak, lasagna, pan roasted duck breast, cannelloni, liver paté, spring roll, and more. So a very extensive menu here, and not just the same things found everywhere. Sadly we didn't have room to try their desserts, which included sticky toffee pudding, banoffi pie, flourless chocolate cake, and meringue pie with raspberries and ice cream. They were hard to pass up.

Had a fabulous late (8:30pm) dinner at Fishy Fishy last night and the restaurant was still packed…read moreand turning away folks without reservations. Ambiance was classy and we also did not feel inappropriately dressed in our jeans and sweatshirts (having just traveled from the Highlands in Scotland to Edinburgh to Dublin to Kinsale in a single day!) Service was chatty and friendly and kind. It was a bit noisy but not so much so that my partner and I could not hear each other. The food I had was fantastic: - Caesar salad - 5**/5 this is hands down the best Caesar salad I've ever had. I know that sounds weird to rate a basic Caesar but the lettuce was crisp and fresh and the dressing with just the right anchovy balance and ratio to the leaves and I loved the croutons (I usually skip them). Big enough for two to share. - special monkfish filets with beetroot - 5/5 outstanding dish with delicate flavors and two generous filets, especially good if you like beets! Came with crispy potatoes in a side dish which I appreciated because the beets didn't get them wet and they stayed crispy - west cork scallops 4/5, 8 generous scallops in the dish on an English pea risotto only downgraded because the risotto was not fully cooked - the rice was a bit crunchy in spots - strawberries and cream dessert - 4/5, only because for 9.95 that's a lot for a small bowl of berries and I do compare my strawberries to California farm fresh ones so that's a tough comparison Loved Kinsale and loved Fishy Fishy and hope to be back to both!

We had an overall awful and very expensive dinner last night at this highly rated Kinsale…read morerestaurant. Our family of 7 travelers waited over an hour for our main dishes. The waiter said there was a problem in the kitchen. My daughter in law's steak was severely undercooked. The arancini was not cooked enough. The first round of this appetizer was cooked well. We ordered 2 more of this dish. The rice in this round of rice balls was undercooked and crunchy. The lobster bisque was the best food I ate here. It went downhill from the first round of appetizers. The food was mostly average. We expected much more from this highly rated restaurant. The manager never came over to asked about our experience.. The wait staff seemed very stressed. We didn't ask but there was no adjustment offered to our bill and we ordered 3 rounds of drinks. Not worth the wait. Not worth the money. A big disappointment.
