Raspberry Collins. Sunshine in a glass
    Nadya S.

Lovely space, great food, friendly staff. My first visit was for lunch with the lovely Mrs C last summer. The standout was dessert. It was a mint choc desert presented in a flower pot with mint leaves popping out the chocolate crumble earth. It was delicious.. The second visit was mid-winter with the other half for Sunday lunch. The portions were huge, the waitress was on top form with great banter & I was soo full from main I had no room for dessert. On Easter weekend it was sunny so we came for drinks & to check out the outdoor space. They have a good selection of drinks. I opted for a cocktail & I'm glad I did. My Raspberry Collins was sunshine in a glass :-) The outdoor seating area is great for enjoying the sun. We even stayed for dinner which was fab. Service was good but when inside started to fill up for dinner the service outside suffered. Maybe they didn't have enough staff or they should've had someone dedicated to outside...

It's the oldest public house in Scotland and worth the journey outside Edinburgh to visit. The interior is warm, welcoming and friendly. It's quiet and relaxing. The service is impressive and the selection of food and beverages are top notch. If you can find it, I recommend you spend time exploring and enjoying it.

Perhaps the problem is that none of us ordered a roast, which is what they're known for. Personally, the cocktail I got was the best part; a rose and raspberry sort of spritz with vodka. Simple, light, and not sweet, it was perfectly refreshing. The vegan risotto was much less so. I deeply appreciate the ambition to put something unique and more elegant on the menu for plant-based eaters. It was certainly well plated. However, my favorite part was the three cubes of Violife feta on top, as the rest was tasteless. Rice dry enough to be pilaf, zero flavor, and about 5 woody ends of asparagus. I'm grateful that they removed it from the bill, as it was largely inedible. Again, I applaud and encourage the effort to add thoughtful options for people of all dietary needs! I'll assume I went on an off-day based on all the other glowing reviews.

We were already a bit discouraged, but on our way back to the hotel we found this place right on the corner and it turned out to be a great decision. From the moment we arrived, the young ladies who welcomed us at the entrance and our server throughout the night were truly professional attentive, well-organized, and genuinely warm. We ordered several main courses, all of them beautifully prepared. The beef tartare, served with bread, was outstanding and can be perfectly paired with the truffled cream for an excellent combination(took the truffled from the Milanese . The sirloin steak was cooked to perfection, and the Truffled Chicken Milanese stood out as a remarkable dish, offering a delicious and well-balanced flavor profile.

It wasn't bad, just that i expected higher standard from the IVY. Generous portion for the sea bass (which i love), however, the skin was not quite as crispy as I would prefer (it looked like the chef tried but the sauce made it soggy). The mushroom sauce with spinach's and beans(?) was not a balanced match for the dish somehow. Our party ordered 3 sea-bass and the consensus was similar. The dish wasn't executed as good as the description. The fish and chip was tasty with the pea mash. The burger from the Kids' menu was bigger than McDonald's Big Mac and delicious. Came with tasty fries. Mom ordered fresh mint tea which turned out to be made with a dried mint tea bag. Nice cocktail menu tho. & service was great.

And we left with full bellies, even though we only spent about 15 each! So, the food. YUM. We had some trouble deciding which of the menu items looked tastiest (we'll totally be back to try more options!), but she landed on the steak & ale pie, and i had the black pudding, tomato, & chorizo pie. Both were delicious--so tasty and satisfying! The chips that came with them (sweet potato for her, skin on for me) were perfect, and the mac & cheese side we split was also totally indulgent. We had sticky toffee pudding and a brownie for dessert, and those were so good they vanished pretty quickly even though we were already stuffed! We also got lucky and got to taste some of their soup of the day AND some fudge--both were heavenly. I'll be going back just to have some more of that soup, for sure. We both were really pleasantly surprised at how good the serving sizes were; I know I went in pretty hungry, and I came out COMPLETELY satiated. To top it all off, the waitress was an absolute delight. She was so sweet and patient, and she really went out of her way to spoil us! It almost felt like being at a friend's place. I'm really surprised I couldn't find any reviews on this place! It's such a treasure; we're really, really glad we gave it a try. I'll definitely be back. :)
