If you want your kids to cause permanent damage to their vocal chords, this is the camp for you! They specialize in sitting on a hot blacktop and shouting call and response chants for hours. How is this considered camp activity??? I used to teach and lead summer camps. There are literally hundreds of fun intelligence, social skills, and teamwork building activities you can engage kids in. This constant back and forth yelling is lazy and unimaginative. Im disappointed in all of the bad reviews here because my daughters had the best summer at PSDC (after a really crummy summer last year at another local camp)! The staff was unbelievably awesome - they welcomed us with high energy and hugs every morning, and high fives and personal questions ("what are you guys going to do tonight?") on our way out each evening, the office staff was on top of everything (calls for every heat-induced bloody nose, follow ups on any little question I had, etc), lots of photos, and no rock left unturned. The bottom line is that my girls came home happy, dirty, and with stories to tell! Of course it sucks that they had to carry their backpacks and lunches as they navigated around NYC, but who else is going to do it for them?! We'll be back next year, and maybe even for school-break fun, too! read more

If you care about your child, DO NOT SEND YOUR KID HERE! I have worked here as a counselor at this overpriced camp and have seen and experienced some truly disgusting things. I witnessed staff members having mental breakdowns due to the hostile work environment and saw people quitting left and right. The camp couldn't be bothered to pay for better activities for the younger children, so our everyday "trips" consisted of taking them into the terrible heat to a sprinkler or Prospect Park. These were small children, carrying their backpacks filled with their lunchbags and all of their belongings, drenched in sweat and stumbling. I personally felt faint and was heavily sweating due to the heat and can only imagine how the children felt, while simultaneously being screamed at by the staff to "stay in line" and "walk faster." Their website also makes several false claims, saying that all buses are air-conditioned (they are not, and not even all of the seatbelts work), staff go through a "rigorous training program" (there is no training program, only a three hour orientation) and that campers get to experience a "variety of activities," while younger campers only played circle games, read books that had pages that were ripped apart, and colored. The counselors are NOT trained, the counselors yell at children who have tantrums and have no patience for "difficult campers." I have even seen campers criticized and bullied by their own counselors. I have witnessed small campers left behind by their own counselors, knowing prior to this that their counselor disliked them. This camp is also NOT COVID FRIENDLY! Everyone who works here walks around with their masks off all of the time and you're directed to pull them up when parents come for pick up or drop off. Last, the treatment of counselors, who are already paid less than minimum wage, is horrendous. They are belittled them and spoken to in a passive-aggressive, condescending manner. I have also witnessed two separate supervisors PHYSICALLY RESTRAIN CHILDREN at morning drop offs more than once, simply because they were crying out for their parents. Both with blank expressions on their faces as if it were just another day at work. Please send your child elsewhere. The people who run this camp do not care about your children or their staff, they only care about your money. I am sure you can get a lot more for your money and can send your kid to somewhere better than a public sprinkler or to Prospect Park waiting around to get heatstroke. Terrible camp, belittles employees for asking questions regarding pay, terrible place to work.

My son has been going to both Park Slope Day Camp and sports Academy for the last three summers and still asked to go back. They have tons of different activities, off site trips, beach etc his favorite is the game "Gaga"! He made lots of friends and really enjoys the day. He comes home exhausted and happy! They make it very flexible to attend the entire summer or portion of depending on your travel schedule. We enrolled again this year. read more

My kids attended the camp last summer for several weeks and loved it. The counselors (Megan!) are wonderful - very attentive, playful, and responsive. Every time I picked them up they were being engaged by the counselors or playing. While expensive, the camp provides a diverse experience while taking advantage of what NYC has to offer. A good mix of being outdoors, playing, swimming, and structured activity. The bus service was reliable and we appreciated the back office attention to detail and billing ease. We had a very negative experience at this camp. My son has asthma and, per the camp's instructions, I packed daily his emergency asthma medication. The first day of camp the teacher asked my 4 year old son (!) what the dosage was of the medication. I'm not sure what my 4 year old communicated (since he had no clue what the actual dosage should be and when it should be administered), but i found out when I picked him up that he was administered the drug many times throughout the day and was given a massive overdose (the meds shouldn't even have been administered that day since he was not having any breathing problems). My son's heart was racing from the medication and it was terrifying, since an overdose of this particular medication could have been lethal. The supervisor did apologize the next day, but the administration never replied to my various emails and calls. You would have thought that I could have gotten some comfort that the folks running this camp took this incident seriously, but no. read more

Worst dangerous and discriminating in my eyes Lenny as I said the camp has been handling this seriously inappropriate since the first minute please read bc something else happened first he was kept knowing he wanted to leave at 10 and nobody called me till 2:30 making discriminatory comments saying you didn't know what "his happiness" looked like and what was his iep insinuating that he wasn't just not being integrated right but it ws bc he was different and he isn't Next obviously if they did the park first and he had time in a short period to bring the whole park with him it is not possible the consolers spent any significant time trying to start a get to know u game etc, if they did he would not have had so much time in park , they let him wander off alone and didn't seem to care. Next when we went to get him he was in another area alone, sad and hurting and even though you knew he was leaving early and no coming back you should have been there to comfort till a parent came. When I left the first day nobody was talking to him and he had been there five minutes I even walked up bc it was so unlike him and I felt so weird no consolers were there for him in his first 5 mins he was sitting scared in a group Next I was ignored, hung up on, discriminated, and so hurt when I found out this went on so much longer then necessary. Also a camp talks does not hang up on a devastated mother etc. Next as I said the only reason he signed up was so excited for trips and Lego adventures which apparently he was disinvited from when he would have gone, would have been one thing if his choice, and found out there was no Lego engineering. If he is told he can't come then money legally has to be refunded bc it wasn't an option and he wasn't causing disturbance or crying or problems. So bc of that it is consumer affairs policy the right thing be done. Also there is severe discrimination in my opinion. Due to the fact that my son was ignored the first thing the owner said due to the fact my son had been in a speech school, no longer has any socialization or speech issues he insinuated in exact words he didn't know what my child's happiness would look like and what was his iep. He obviously could not deal w the lack of the camp staff and blamed my Sons past speech issues on the problem. My son has been in top camps for three years never having a problem. I was ignored and hung up on and not addressed properly. The owner felt bc he went to a needs school at one time he would be a problem. It made my heart break. Later he further told me my son could not have communicated what I said further making my son look like he had a problem And treating him as if he was stupid and unable to communicate. My son talks all the time and has tons of friends and communicates well beyond his years. as he said they did not help him get to know people and you flat out said my son didn't fit in which is ridiculous he even said that if he were better integrated he would have been fine. He said was ignored and left to feel different/. Also as u saw video of my son at other camp it is clear that he has no social issues and it was the integration. Lastly your camp asked me to pick up needles meds that cooper never had at camp this is crazy u were gonna give me needles that don't belong to my son. The medical form Was never filled by me which meant he was never enrolled properly and by not refunding us My son went through low self esteem pain and suffering at your camp discrimination and you had needles on file for him that he never had. In my opinion this camp is emotionally possibly physically dangerous as they asked me to pick up needles my son does not have and does not treat a child that is new or in their eyes different like a child. They let them be separated and ignore them. They asked him not to come back the following day when he even admitted my son did not cause any problems nor did he disrupt the group. This camp is unorganized, immature, slow to respond, and does not deal w the issues as well as does not properly enroll by law children into camp as many oversights are seen. read more

It's not too bad for a city camp. However, staff are not payed equal wages even when accomplishing the same job. They even tell staff not to compare checks, which shouldn't be allowed. Kids have reportedly left without the recognition of the staff. The training for staff and counselors is much shorter and summarized compared to other camp counselor training. The kids have fun, but the disrespectful environment threw me off. read more

I worked at the camp as a counselor back in 2004, and it was probably the favorite job I've ever had. Great kids, nice coworkers, and an overall great environment to be in. It was tons of fun and really stimulating for the campers, and I would have no hesitation in suggesting the camp to a parent. This is the kind of place where the experience will stay with a child for the rest of their life. Don't let your kid just stay at home playing video games! Making friends, having fun and seeing nature are what being a kid should be about. read more

Parents ! Please do not send your kids here! My child went to this camp and the staff and administration is so unprofessional as if they just took random people from the streets.They take a lot of money and my child barely went anywhere except prospect park they stayed outside all day in terrible heat and carried their heavy lunch packs with them to the point where my child came home sick every day with headaches and as I opened to check the lunch box the lunch was spoiled due to the heat it was in .I took my child to the doctor right away and he said that it's because he's kept in the heat too often. I'm close friends with other parents who took their kids here and I was not surprised that the same exact problem arose their children have got near heat strokes other parents complained as well to why their children where walking all day in 98 degree weather carrying their bags and lunches , and their shoulders in aggravating pain. Overall, I just feel bad for my decision of taking my child here and for those parents who did the same . So love your kids and stay away from this place ! read more

I've heard very positive things about the camp experience, but my experience with the administration was less than stellar--hence, this review. It all seemed very promising. When we were registering for the camp, everyone was prompt, called me back, gave detailed information, and were all very helpful. Unfortunately, my daughter got sick the first day of camp and did not return for the rest of the two-week session. Although they offer camp insurance, we hadn't purchased it. Because of this, I didn't expect a refund. But I was slightly taken aback that I never heard from the camp again--we'd left a voicemail saying she was in the hospital and wouldn't be there, no one ever followed up with us afterwards--until September, when I started to be barraged with emails and marketing calls begging me to sign up for the next season. At this point, at first nicely, and then not-so-nicely, I pointed out that we hadn't actually attended Cirque D'Ete, that no one had ever bothered to follow up on how my daughter was doing, and that, although I hadn't asked for a refund, some acknowledgement or concession would go a long way to making us feel better about spending $1100 for our daughter not to attend camp. And that if they expected me to register her again, they should at least NOTICE that she hadn't been there. At the very least, I asked them to take us OFF of the mailings. Unfortunately, this did not happen until November and several more calls. What prompts this review: yesterday, I got a happy call from Park Slope Day Camp, asking if my daughter (they used the nickname I'd given them), had enjoyed camp last year, and would she like to come back? I think it's the use of her nickname that pushed me over the edge. The fact that they have a note in their records about that, but not about how she didn't actually go to the summer camp. Look, I get it. It's hard to keep everything organized. But I can't help but wonder, since the camp staff doesn't seem to know she wasn't there... how much would they have noticed if she was? read more
