It's a mix of french vintage with stunning furniture and timeless wall pieces. Ry cut my hair. Absolutely delightful and engaged in conversation! Near the end of my appointment, a male entered and as someone who wears the hijab; I was quickly asked if I wanted to go to the back room. I myself didn't even put two and two together! I am looking for a salon near me. I thought I would give the Parlour a try. It's adorable inside, very clean and the decor is fabulous. I went in for a trim and a blowout. I asked for 1/2 inch just a small trim. I am getting married and want to grow my hair out. The hair stylist ended up cutting over an inch off, and thinned out my hair. I was upset because she did what she thought would look good vs what I asked for. Also, my blowout was really frizzy. It may have been my specific stylist. I finally had the opportunity to get my facial done by the philly 2022 best aesthetician award winner Lynn :) It has been a long time since I got my facial done and I am glad it was done by Lynn. I took 1.5 hour session. She has soft but firm hands and know exactly what your skin needs. I felt so relaxed while I was getting my treatment done. I live in the neighborhood and I decided to walk in to acquaint myself with the salon prior to booking an appointment. I'm glad I did. A woman who works there sneered at me up and down with a disgusted look on her face and said. "We do have a cheap haircut available for you" I retorted with "Oh, I'm not looking for a cheap haircut, so I'll go elsewhere." I presume she didn't like the way I look. Let me first talk about the salon itself. So cute inside!! They just renovated it within the last few months and it's even better (which I honestly couldn't have imagined being possible). It's super cool and trendy with giant mirrors, rustic finishes and exposed brick. You definitely don't mind spending several hours in here while getting your hair done. I've been going to Liz for a few years now, I have followed her from her old salon to this one and I honestly don't trust anyone else with my hair. I went to this salon a bit randomly. I called in April and asked who was available for a cut that week and ended up with Hel. Hel was super thorough and did an awesome job! The other day, I called and got a color appointment for today with Rory. Again, awesome! Rory fixed and blended some previously done highlights from elsewhere that didn't look so great before, but now are you exactly how I envisioned. I have thick, frizzy, wavy/curly (2B) hair. I usually switch it up between chin-length and a few inches below my shoulders. Every time I go for a cut, I always have to ask the stylist to thin it out, because if I don't have layers, my hair is a frizzy pyramid. Unfortunately, every time I've gotten layers, my hair is flippy and shaggy, a complete mess. When I blow it out, I look like I have The Rachel, circa 1994. When I leave it curly, it's even worse. So, I went to the Parlour on a friend's recommendation and got an appointment with Crystal. Before she started working on my hair, we talked for quite a while. She said that she and I had the same texture hair and she knew exactly what to do to make it look less shaggy but not poofy. She also told me that it either had to be just above or just below the spot where my neck meets my back because it would flip up otherwise. Nobody else has EVER told me that, and my hair has always flipped. She really took my hair texture into consideration when she was cutting it. For the first time in my adult life, I don't have old-timey Jennifer Aniston hair. Crystal did such a good job that my shortest layer actually looks LONGER. I don't know how she did it. She must be a wizard. The real test was after I got home. I re-wet my hair and styled it myself. Because anyone can look good when leaving a salon. But I was able to style it on my own and it still looked good. I also got highlights and I almost gave this a 4 star review because the highlights are a leeeeetle more subtle than what I had in mind. But they were expertly done, and I'm honestly so happy about the cut that I'd give 6 stars if I could. read more

I will not go to anyone else for color. Sam does an amazing job! My hair goes halfway down my back and is naturally a mousy brown color. Sam turns it into a fun head of perfect blonde healthy highlights! This may not seem like a huge deal, but going from brown to blonde can be disastrous. I know everyone has seen the women with dry, brassy/orange, broken hair. That is what can happen if you do not have someone like Sam lighten you. I don't recommend this place for a facial if you have sensitive skin. I went here on a Thursday afternoon for a facial. I found the person who did my facial to be very pleasant. I had explained that I had sensitive skin when I called to make the appointment, and did mention it at the start of the appointment. During the facial my skin started to feel warm and irritated. I told the esthetician this and she said it was likely related to a product she was using that had a mild acid for exfoliating. I found the facial massage to be very uncomfortable- just the touch of her hands on my face was very painful. I should have told her to stop in retrospect. When I paid (I had a generous gift certificate) no one at the front commented that my face was red. I went into another shop a few minutes later on my way home, and looked in a mirror and saw how raw my chin and cheeks looked. I called the salon on my walk home and they said some irritation was not unexpected given how long it had been since my last facial, and it would subside soon. That night my face was on fire, blotchy, and my chin was painful and rough. My fiancé thought I had a fever but I think it was just the reaction. The next morning I called the main esthetician who was able to see me right away. She examined my skin and did some calming soaks to my face. She discussed with the prior esthetician and they realized she had used an acne treatment on my chin which was probably what I was having a reaction to. But my cheeks and forehead were irritated too- maybe from extractions. Along with the soaks, she did put a makeup on my face which made things look a bit better. After the treatment (which was free and lasted at least 30+ mins) she gave me many free samples of products to try on my skin. I ended up buying a larger (but still sample sized) tinted moisturizer from them for $11, which I had to wear for the next 3-4 days because my skin was still so red. I had photos for work on that Monday (3 and a half days later) and my skin was still red even with the cosmetics. I really appreciated the care the main esthetician took when I called back that I had the reaction. But if you have sensitive skin, I would not recommend this place. I've had facials in the past and have never had a reaction like this before. It took almost a full 5 days for my face to get back to normal. read more

Had the BEST time ever with Lynn! She did an incredible facial and Gua Sha session with me! I have been trouble keeping my skin normal this odd winter weather. When it's got to cold then back to hot again.. I was all out of sorts and I talked with Lynn prior to my appointment about my pain points! I have been going to Parlour for well over a year and was always beyond happy with what Jess did for my hair. But last night was the last time i will go... I arrived 5 minutes early for my 8pm appt and was told she was running 10-15 min late. No big deal, so I waited... and waited... and waited... all the while seeing that she was taking her time (i mean, really taking her time) with the current client - no intent on noticing that she was now FORTY MINUTES LATE for my appt - and then began to continue to dry the client's hair. At this point, i had not been approached by her to let me know she was aware i was there and she was sorry for a delay - nothing. So I told the receptionist I was leaving. If I had stayed to wait for her to finish her client, I bet it would have been 9PM before she began cutting my hair... and probably would have rushed to finish. So, off to find a new stylist. After this, I have zero intention of returning there ever again. read more

I have only taken advantage of their waxing services therefore I cannot speak of other services they provide. The person providing the services for me was Kelly and she has always done a great job, she's been very nice and it is bc of her (and organic products they use) that I like coming back to this place. Highly recommend her. My recent experience with general organization of this salon has been an issue though.... I have been coming to my appts always a bit early. I hate being late. Unfortunately my appts often didn't start anywhere from 20min to 30min late. It is not acceptable in my opinion bc I have to sneak out of work to make this appt and I do not have much wiggle room. I think that is why we make appts to receive the service within that particular scheduled time frame. My most recent appt I booked couple days in advance. I have called to make this appt on a Sunday after my work was finished which was 2:30pm. When I got there they told me my appt was at 1pm.... Huh? I'm working at that time. What ticked me off is the front desk girl... Young girl with little to no experience in handling situations like that. She told me my appt was at 1pm. I told her it's impossible bc I work during that time and I called to book it for 2:30pm. She told me they were trying to call today. I didn't receive any phone call...? It's bc they had my ph nr wrong in their system... How come? Also, in the past I remember receiving email confirmation with my appt, but I didn't get this time. The front desk girl wouldn't do anything to try fix this situation. I asked her that since I'm here now and obviously the front desk person I talked to on the ph made a mistake booking this appt coukd they taken care of me now? She just told me no. Hmmm.... So I'm standing here about to spend $150-$200 and you're turning my money down and leaving me very unsatisfied with they way she handled this situation. She didn't offer to rebook, not she was interested in fixing this situation or offering me some solution to three mistake like discount for next service or ANYTHING to help me out. Also on their voicemail they tell you leave your info and they'll call you back. They never do no matter how many times I've done it. There are 2 main reasons why this review is special: 1. This is my 100th review, which I was being incredibly stingy about. Seriously, I stopped reviewing until I ate at a worthy place. My elite status was even challenged, that's how stingy I was. 2. I almost NEVER review non-food anything. The one time I did, it was to complain about it. I came to Parlour twice in a week. The first time, I did a Yelp search for eyebrow waxing and this salon popped up. 5 out of 5 can't be a fluke. True to all the reviews, the staff was very polite, engaging, and loads of attention to detail. I dare say it was the longest eyebrow waxing session I've ever had. Not in a bad way, but in a way where you know you're getting your money's worth. However, I didn't review it because again, I'm stingy and only review food. I was so comfortable with Parlour I booked a haircut for the following week. I generally wait months and months and months before realizing my hair is too long. I don't like personal grooming services because I find them tedious, and often full of forced awkward conversation. But this time it was quite the opposite. Crystal took a quick look at my hair and said "I want to do this this and this. And also I think this would be good" Me: Ok. This is exactly what I wanted, professional suggestions. I've been a long time fan of The Parlour. I've been avoiding writing a review so I can weasel my way into an appointment any ol' time, but the wonderful women of The Parlour deserve a shout out and so I'm about to give em one! I've been coming to Jess to get my haircut for years, following her from salon to salon. I'm what you would call a nervous client. Scratch that. I'm a neurotic client. I mean, I cross state lines so this woman can trim up my hair. Jess is like an anxious hair cut receiver's dream. She talks everything out with you and really describes what's about to go down. I've even felt a little ballsy a few times and attempted to have her chop off my tresses but Jess talked me off the ledge, noting that I've been growing my hair out a long time and would probably be furious when I had to start all over again. I have to say that the haircuts and beautiful color she creates on my head get me compliments for up to a month later. A. FULL. MONTH. LATER. I rarely find people complimenting a brand new top, much less a month old haircut. This chick knows her stuff. I only recently delved into the skin portion of The Parlour. OH EM GEEE y'all! Kelley legit cured my eczema. I've been using all sorts of medicated garbage for years with some results, but never seeing a full turn around. After a facial and a week of using her natural creams my skin is some next level glowing and radiant perfection. Kelley really took time to study my skin, ask me what my problem areas are and customized a magical potion to fix my mess of a face. If you're looking for a great salon (and I feel like I always am) this is the place. I don't LOVE the price of the haircut, but everything else is amazing. The staff is friendly, they take their time with you, and work hard to give you what you want. Tami cuts my hair, and she always listens to what I ask for and looks at the pictures I bring in and gives me something that will work for my face, style, and life. Plus she's a serious sweetheart and chats like you've been friends forever. They offer drinks at the door, your shampoo girl will massage your head and neck, and as some other reviewers have mentioned, the place is clean and decorated beautifully. Love the Arrojo products, too - I stock up on the Refinish Dry Shampoo whenever I'm there because it doesn't leave white streaks like other dry shampoos. Definitely take them up on the complimentary bang trims - they're totally free and a great way to maintain your style between cuts. The Parlour is a welcome addition to the burgeoning Fishtown neighborhood. The staff are f*n brilliant, their products are amazing, and the decor is spectacular! (Side hustle suggestion would be interior design.... Seriously). Jess recently cut bangs into my hair and I could not be happier with the result - which is an absolute miracle considering my super gnarly cow-lick. Additionally, I love getting my eyebrows waxed here. Kelly is truly an 'eyebrow artist' and I have never had a bad reaction or breakout - which is probably why the service is a little on the expensive side. So I guess when it comes to your face, you get what you pay for. I am very excited to treat myself with their facial special on a Wednesday soon as Kelly tells me it is "an experience like no other." Holy Cow, my hair looks good. Tami took such attention listening to what I wanted, paid special attention to what my hair was like pre-wash (something I always consider one of my signs of a great stylist, since I have inconsistently curly hair, and a plethora of cowlicks) and gave me an amazing cut! ALL while being absolutely lovely, personable, and dishing out great recommendations for my weekend in Philly. Really, she was just so lovely! Kelley's attention to the detail of your every pore, her ridiculously awesome eyebrow sculpting skills, and just overall knowledge of skin care is fantastic. Look at your esthetician's skin.. Kelley's is wonderful. Yours will be too. Jess is very easy to talk to. You could give her the most vague description of a hairstyle ever, and somehow she will make it happen.. Only 10x better. As a guy who needs to cut his hair every 6-8 weeks I was always a supercut or equivalent type place person. Not wanting to spend too much. But those always resulted in 30-40 minutes of terror as I sat and awaited the result always different, even with the same stylist. Then I decided to grow up and have been coming to Parlour for almost 3 years. Crystal is my stylist and I could not be happier. She knows hair (and I know nothing about hair) and has always done a great job walking me through what is best for me. The outcome has always been what I needed and has totally changed the way I look at a hair cut. She knows what she is talking about and backs up the talk with her cut. For me it is worth every penny (and it's not that expensive only $38 + tip) for the consistency, advice and good conversation I get when at Parlour. All of the other employees have always been pleasant and attentive and the salon gives a comfortable vibe for both men and women. If you are looking for a wax, Kelly is the one. I've lived in New York and LA before moving to Philly for school. Never in either of these places have I received a wax so amazing. So I signed up for yelp just in order to write this review. I cannot say enough positive things about my experience today at this salon. I have not had a professional haircut in 7 years and I normally get my color done at a salon in the suburbs but hadn't had a touch up for 5 months (I recently had surgery for thyroid cancer and was told by everyone that you should wait a few months before bleaching your hair since anesthesia makes it more brittle/sensitive/likely to fall out) so needless to say my hair was really quite a mess and I was terribly nervous. Samantha was my stylist and she was amazing. She was very positive and upbeat and really listened to what I wanted and most importantly didn't scold me for going 7 years without a haircut. She touched up my blonde roots (which were going on 2 inches =/) and she gave me a trim and an amazing blowout. The vibe is super cool, relaxed, and friendly. & I was expecting to pay much more so that was a pleasant surprise for the amount of time that was spent on my hair and what an excellent job she did. I've had both Jess and Sara cut my hair. I usually bring in a picture and they are both great at starting with a visual and then adapting it to my hair type. I never feel rlike they are rushing to get me out of their chair. I would recommend seeing either of these women if you have short hair and want something androgynous and not too feminine. I recently had Sara cut my hair and she explained that there is a free bang trim included. Having a bang trim is a great incentive to keel clients. Additionally, there is now a huge cafe/bar next door where you can have a drink if you arrive early. read more
