And amazing Silver color that Liz did
Allison R.

Let me first talk about the salon itself. So cute inside!! They just renovated it within the last few months and it's even better (which I honestly couldn't have imagined being possible). It's super cool and trendy with giant mirrors, rustic finishes and exposed brick. You definitely don't mind spending several hours in here while getting your hair done. The ambiance in here is everything! Good music too. Now, to talk about my girl. I've been going to Liz for a few years now, I have followed her from her old salon to this one and I honestly don't trust anyone else with my hair. I have recently chopped it all off to a pixie and love love love the cut. She's also awesome with color, anything from natural to neon and everything in between! Will be coming back again and recommending everyone else to as well!

DAMAGE DONE AFTER 5 BLEACHING DONE
Abe S.

My hair is completely damaged and I had to cut it off to an unhappy hairstyle. I can ONLY do 1 style and that's slick back because it is so damaged . .. .I feel ridiculous and embarrassed hair is everything . . now I have to suffer because I trusted the wrong hairstylist . .my hair was processed 5 times . .they put me in under the heated lights which made the product boil within the foil and steaming hot water was dripping and burning me . .left me alone and I was screaming of pain . .well . . the nightmare did not end there . .the next day my hair starts to fall out . .in called them to inform them and they said o that's OK . .well it's not OK . . Because it's not your hair . .I had to loose 60% of my hair because of this . The worse hair experience ever . .is the place hip and cool . .yeah . .but is it worth loosing your hair ??

Before and After. Thanks to Crystal at the Parlour
Dana F.

I have thick, frizzy, wavy/curly (2B) hair. I usually switch it up between chin-length and a few inches below my shoulders. Every time I go for a cut, I always have to ask the stylist to thin it out, because if I don't have layers, my hair is a frizzy pyramid. Unfortunately, every time I've gotten layers, my hair is flippy and shaggy, a complete mess. When I blow it out, I look like I have The Rachel, circa 1994. When I leave it curly, it's even worse. So, I went to the Parlour on a friend's recommendation and got an appointment with Crystal. Before she started working on my hair, we talked for quite a while. She said that she and I had the same texture hair and she knew exactly what to do to make it look less shaggy but not poofy. She also told me that it either had to be just above or just below the spot where my neck meets my back because it would flip up otherwise. Nobody else has EVER told me that, and my hair has always flipped. She really took my hair texture into consideration when she was cutting it. For the first time in my adult life, I don't have old-timey Jennifer Aniston hair. Crystal did such a good job that my shortest layer actually looks LONGER. I don't know how she did it. She must be a wizard. The real test was after I got home. I re-wet my hair and styled it myself. Because anyone can look good when leaving a salon. But I was able to style it on my own and it still looked good. I also got highlights and I almost gave this a 4 star review because the highlights are a leeeeetle more subtle than what I had in mind. But they were expertly done, and I'm honestly so happy about the cut that I'd give 6 stars if I could.

First off, the place feels big. Has nice calming music playing in the background so it's a pleasant experience visiting and even sitting in the chair for some time. The wash was about the same length of time as a wash from other places here in Chinatown, but somehow it was significantly more enjoyable. The people here know what they're doing, and my scalp feels much better than it did before, and I didn't even know if was feeling anything before. Cut was ~30 minutes, and $28 + tip. Overall, it's on the pricier end of what I've experienced so far in Chinatown, although not by much. However, the quality of the cut was much better than others. In other places, it feels a bit more rushed or cursory, but I felt like I was getting focused attention on my cut. He spent a lot of it actually in touch up and layering, which was good attention to detail. Honestly one of the best cuts I've gotten in Chinatown. Definitely beats out in quality over other mainstays like Kevin's, but at a slightly higher price point.

Also gave me my first hair cut in several months, long layers, and trimmed away all the over processed ends. She's very careful about COVID-19 and even took a safety class. You call ahead and you are the only person in the salon besides her. Also, since it's a small salon, it's not expensive (although I gave a big tip because of COVID--and to support a female small business owner of color during pandemic!). If you are on the fence, I'd go (call first). Alyssa also does much fancier coloring jobs, and I might try one in the future. She seems like the right person to take a risk with. The salon has moved to a nice part of South Street (1112 South St.) where I managed to find parking without a problem.

Whenever I move to a new city and go to a new place, I can never quite articulate the hairstyle I usually get (usually I just say "2" on the sides and finger length on top). Inevitably I get a new variable cut that is either too short or long on top. At this place, all it took was one visit! On top of this, I am usually too cheap to get a shampoo, but since it is already included in the $15 price, it is an added bonus on top of a quality cut. Highly encourage anyone in Philly to give this place a try!

The stylist was polite enough when I was welcomed in. I told her that I wanted my hair trimmed with…read moremy hair covering my ears, and the top blended in with the sides. She smiled and agreed, and started cutting. In no time at all, she had cut the hair on one side of my head above my ear, which was the opposite of what I asked for, as I have a deformed right ear from decades of combat sports competition, and I wanted it concealed. As she had already ruined my hair on one side, I bit my tongue as she made the other side match it. I was absolutely furious, but what can a stylist do once they've taken too much off? Absolutely nothing. Now I am stuck with a haircut where my deformed ear is visible for the whole world to see because the stylist decided to give me that haircut that she wanted to give me instead of the one that I asked for. I paid for my haircut with a card and departed in a polite manner, but the moment I hit the sidewalk, I could no nothing but scream profanity as the realization that I couldn't cover my deformed ear kicked in. Now I am not only out $18, but I am stuck with a haircut which leaves me open to yet more questions along the lines of "What's wrong with your ear?" [Edit, I called the place and she offered me a refund, but this doesn't undo the damage she did to my personal appearance. I'll take the refund, but this review stands.] I grew the sides of my hair longer specifically to hide that ear, and the stylist decided that she knew better than me where my haircut was concerned, and forced her personal preferences onto my head. That stylist is very fortunate that I have superior control over my temper, because she has left me feeling disfigured with the haircut she gave me, and now that I'm home and trying to style this mess, I see that she couldn't even manage to trim my bangs straight, and the hair on one side is not symmetrical with the hair on the other side. With the mess she left me with, with my deformed ear exposed, I might just shave my head instead of putting up with this terrible thing she did to my head. I am so humiliated that I don't even want to be seen in public looking like this. I went in feeling good about myself and looking forward to the haircut I asked for, and I left with my self-esteem in the gutter. I get upset every time I catch my refection and see what she did to my appearance. I can't go out looking like this. In short, she was absolutely incompetent & unprofessional in providing a haircut according to the very simple instructions I gave her. She shouldn't be permitted to cut hair, and if she has a state license for cutting hair, it should be revoked. The only reason she's getting one star is because I can't give her zero stars. Attached to this review, you'll see two photos detailing how she couldn't even manage to cut my hair evenly. I could have gotten a better cut from a landscaper with a weed-whacker. There is absolutely no excuse for this, and no apology or refund can do undo the damage. I'll have to wear a hat until my hair covers my deformed ear again. Thanks to a stylist who doesn't listen, I get to wear a hat to cover my deformed ear now. As a craftsman and a business owner, I can tell you that this is not how a professional renders a service to a client. **Update** I spoke with the stylist on the phone a short time ago about the refund she told me she would give me, and instead of telling me when I could come down & get it, she began making all manner of excuses as to why she shouldn't refund my money. This is the kind of experience you can expect to have with this hair stylist: first she will ruin your hair, then she will justify her poor work and back-peddle out of any refund she's already offered you. I should have looked at the other 1-Star reviews of this place, because it seems that those people all had a very similar experience to mine. As a small business owner myself, I'm very enthusiastic about supporting small businesses, but not if they're run by incompetent, unprofessional people who refuse to accept accountability for the damage they do, or offer fair compensation in return for those damages.

The interior is bright and newly remodeled, giving it a modern and clean look. They offer many services such as haircut, perm, dye, and even hair treatments. There is even a dedicated person that washes your hair for you before and after your haircut. She is super gentle and thorough. She even massages your head while she washes it! I came in on a Monday around lunch time and they weren't busy at all. Since it was our first time there, we didn't have a stylist in mind. They sat us down quickly and David was the one that helped my husband with his haircut. He is very knowledgeable about Asian hair types as he trained in Tokyo for 6 years. If you show him a photo, he will be sure to match the style you requested through the photo. He will constantly show you what the back looks like through a mirror to ensure that you're satisfied with the results. David is really a perfectionist and he even told me that he's always open to criticism, so if you're unhappy with something, just communicate with him and he will be sure to make it right. There might be a language barrier if you don't speak Chinese but I think a translation app would work just fine. My husband got a Korean style two block haircut and I have to admit it's one of the best haircuts that he has ever gotten! The longer layers in the back blended seamlessly with the shorter portion on the back of his head. My husband is traumatized from getting haircuts because oftentimes you pay a lot for a haircut that you don't even end up liking, but he's glad that he finally found a spot that he will be returning to. For wash and haircut, the price is $28, but they were running a promotion at the time so it ended up costing $23. Overall, I highly recommend this hair salon to those who are looking to get a quality haircut.
