The cod was flakey and the batter stayed on the fish. The chips were perfectly soggy and crisp (not usually a good thing but always works for fish and chips). Fried mushrooms, awesome, fried scampi, awesome. My favorite actually ended up being the fried spam, they had a nice thick piece and it was melt in your mouth salty/umami goodness. Spam lovers and doubters should both try this and see what they think! This was definitely one of the highlights of my short Whitstable trip, esp since everything else was closed or closing. But if you do stay then it is one of the best roast meals you can get. Unlike some other carverys the chef is very generous with his meat and the vegetables are always plentiful. The waitress was very rude! my daughter went to go to the toilet and the waitress was talking about her in the kitchen, as she walked by, they saw her and they all scattered, made my daughter very uncomfortable. The food was mediocre. The mushrooms were rubbery and the raviolli wasnt cooked properly. The dessert, they asked for ice cream with it, they did not receive and felt too awkward to address the waitress. The staff in general we're ok, but not the most welcoming. The ambience was fine, typical restaurant vibe. They will not be returning.

A pint of lager and lime came up as a shandy. Upon telling the waitress that this wasn't what I ordered, her blank expression told me that I wouldn't get what I wanted even if I drew it on a piece of paper. In the death, the closest I got was a pint of lager with a teapot full of lime. My wife ordered a lemonade spritzer and then told the waitress to just bring the wine as there was some spare lemonade on the table. What did she get? A lemonade spritzer PLUS another bottle of lemonade. The menu said 'ice cream with fresh strawberries'. Frozen strawberries in ice cream would have been more exact. When pointed out to the waiting staff, once again, blank expressions. There is a plethora of eateries to choose from in Rayleigh. Fortunately, the company that we were in made up for the extremely poor service. I did not leave a tip and will not be returning.
