They are simply too structured and in flexible Perhaps I don't fully understand the nuances of the business, but it defies logic to me If you have a facility and you have staff on board 24/7 why can't you pick up your Dog whenever..? I got tied up at work and wasn't able to make it for the 4 PM pick up when they close... On my way there, I tried calling them and a answering service picked up and then the answering service said nobody was answering the phone at the facility and They left a message. Why pay for an answering service when you are paying staff to be there..24/7 when got there I knocked on the door and a gal behind the desk, ducked down and tried to hide from me....?!!I thought this was very childish and unprofessional.. Why would you pay staff to sit there and not handle a customer concern? I knocked very loudly and aggressively, and she finally came up to the door and would talk to me through the door. I was concerned because I did not leave enough food for him for another day. She refused to give me my dog and threatened to call the cops.. She said I was making her feel unsafe... Which found rather offensive and wonder what kind world we now live in...Granted I was yelling because she wouldn't open the door so had to talk through double pane glass.. Suggestion .... I understand you're looking for a certain level of operationally efficiency with scheduled pick ups and drop offs But if you're going pay someone to stay at the facility then perhaps train them to process a payment and simply charge a late pick up fee... someone did call me and took a payment on the phone and said I could come back at 8 PM to pick up my Baby Boy... Went to pick up my dog today and saw a pit attack another dog (an Aussie mix that was laying on the floor, perfectly calm). The conversation I overheard from a staff member basically said "I've never seen this before" and didn't offer comfort to the victims of the attack. While the attack wasn't their fault, their handling of the attack was not good. I will never take my dog to them again. I have since been informed, by a couple other people I know, that there are vets that say not to bring your pet there because they have had to treat animals after fights there. They seem to assume everything is all perfect and everyone will always get along and live with their heads in the clouds. They need to research dog breed traits and get educated. This is what they do, so they should do it with eyes wide open and learn. They are daydreamers and sloppy. Working with dogs isn't just all play time with puppies. Today was a sad day for some people because they are immature and refuse to acknowledge breed traits. As long as they allow pitbulls I will never give them my business again. It is ignorant to deny breed traits. It isn't the dogs' fault they were bred to fight - humans did this. But they should not be pets. read more

We had to board our cat while on vacation last week. I was a little nervous, because I wasn't sure if a boarding place would take him due to some messy health issues, but the amazing folks at The Paw accepted him without any problem. They were great about making sure to ask exactly what he needed, from his food to his meds. He got plenty of attention from the employees, so he wasn't lonely. I love their cat room; each "cat condo" is surprisingly big with multiple levels, and the actual room is like a big play room with huge scratching posts, huts, and toys. They also have a 24 hour webcam, so I was able to check on him whenever I wanted. Cost wasn't bad either; it was about $170 for 6 days, which was actually less than they quoted me. If we ever have to board again, I'll absolutely go with them. read more

I have been bringing my 1 1/2 old Corgi to The Paw since she was a puppy for socialization and playtime with other "littles" such as herself. I had never had a problem until today. I dropped her off and assumed that she would get to play outside on a summer day. When I went to see her on the cameras that I have always enjoyed, I realized that she was packed into a small playroom with about 16 other dogs. It was quite a mix as far as sizes go and there was a bit of rough housing with a Black Lab going on. The staff who had been sitting on the floor and seemed to have little interest, did get up and go over and grab my dog by her collar and put her in what I believe was the time out kennel. When I saw this, I was unhappy and called immediately to say I would be right there to pick up my dog and please keep her safe and away from other dogs in the meantime. When I walked in, the staff seemed to know exactly who I was and one of the girls started walking back to get my dog. I asked her what constituted a "little". She was extremely defensive but did answer the question while she continued walking back, her voice getting louder. She handed my leashed dog to me and had nothing more to say. It was really bothering me so as I reached the door, I said if that kid doesn't like dogs, maybe he should work somewhere else. Well watch out! This girl started yelling at me and saying things that I didn't even say. She said don't accuse us of hurting your dog! I said that I never said they hurt her, I simply stated what I witnessed on the camera and never used foul or abusive language in any way. At that point I was told that I was dismissed from the facility and could not come back! I was really confused how the situation had escalated to this point and remember just looking at her and said "really"? She then yelled it again but first added per management, you are dismissed from the facility and may not return. I'm not sure if that is who you want representing your pet resort! Yikes! read more

I have been impressed time and again by the staff and facility at the Paw. Everyone is friendly and gets to know each dog. We have used daycare as well as boarding for our dog. Also had a cat board there for a weekend. all Our animals have received exceptional care. I love being able to see them on the streaming Video. My dog comes home happy and tired and gets excited every time we pull into the parking lot when she realizes she will see her friends at the Paw. We have used the grooming services as well which are wonderful. Our dog has used the pool a number of times and absolutely loves it. the Paw is a wonderful asset to all dogs (and their people) in Mankato. read more

Replying to Dawn, business owner: Thank you for the response. I understand the risks associated with taking my dog to a boarding facility where other dogs co-mingle. Using your example of daycare, yes, I would take up issue with the provider if my child came home with 4 different illnesses and pneumonia, especially if he went into it healthy. This case, as indicated by the vet, was appalling. I didn't personally administer his shots but as far as River Hills Pet Hospital is concerned, he was up to date on his vaccinations. Don't you require an updated shot record for dogs to be able to stay there anyway? Regardless, we've been loyal customers since you opened and because this case resulted in such an extreme outcome costing your customer an additional $800 as well as Moss going through weeks of discomfort, I would have expected more from you. You made your choice as a business owner not to make it right and I've made mine as a consumer to not frequent your business again and felt an ethical obligation to the public to warn them before bringing their pet to stay in your facility, which evidently doesn't take the necessary precautions to prevent these types of things from happening. It happened on your watch and you refuse to accept responsibility and this is the outcome. read more

My puppy Bodhi attended Puppy Camp and I was so impressed. I loved being able to watch him play on the webcams. It was a great way to safely socialize him with people and dogs. I had been struggling with teaching him bite inhibition and I noticed within 2 days of attending that he was remarkably better. Seeing videos of him learning to swim was adorable. I would definitely recommend this for anyone getting a new puppy. read more

*DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG TO THE PAW PET RESORT* Last Friday I brought Reagle to The Paw to try out doggie daycare. After about 3 hours, Ryan went to pick him up and when he got there Reagle was unable to walk and he had to carry him out. The employee who brought him out explained he "was so excited to see Ryan he might have gotten out of her arms too fast" (Finding our later from the manager Reagle could not see Ryan from the kennels so that was a lie). After taking him to the Vet because he could not put weight on his front paw and was howling and crying, we found out he had a sprained wrist. After contacting the Paw and talking with one manager, Debbie, and telling her my dog couldn't walk she contacted staff and then told me Reagle might have been playing rough with one specific dog, which we were never told about in the first place. She then went back on that and said that didn't happen, but Reagle "jumped" hard into her employees arms and may have been set down wrong. This employee has apparently been there for three years, professionally trained to handle dogs, along with there being a "strict" protocol for how to take a dog out of the kennel. He should never have been able to "jump" out of the kennel. Then talking to a another manager, Dawn, explaining I wanted to see the cameras of him playing and in the kennel, which she said I could come in at any time to see, but explained that there are apparently no cameras in the kennel he was in but she watched the video from him playing outside and couldn't see any reason as to why he couldn't walk. EXACTLY. It had to have happened when he was taken out of the kennel. After explaining this to her, she then went back on what she had previously stated and was 100% sure it happened outside after she previously said she didn't see anything on the cameras that would indicate it happened outside. I said if you are 100% sure I would like you to show me that in the video. At this point she now said if I wanted to see the cameras I had to come at 5:30pm, it was 5:15pm, otherwise the videos would be gone. I was at work and had already had to leave work to take him to the vet and call in to take care of him so I could not leave with a 15 minute notice and I told her that. I was also previously told she could save the video and I could come whenever, but Dawn was now telling me she couldn't save the video because her computer was too old and saving the video would make her computer too slow. Dawn then explained that if this was daycare and my child came home with a sprained ankle, it isn't the Daycare's fault. I then explained, I worked at a daycare for 3 years and if the staff member was the one to sprain the child's ankle they very much would be at fault. I understand that dogs play rough and if that would be why he was unable to walk out of the Paw, I would not be blaming the Paw, but that is not the case. This was the fault of the employee taking him out of the kennel incorrectly. All in all, we just wanted to know what happened to our dog and why he couldn't walk. They gave us multiple answers, continuously back tracked, and were very rude. It's not hard to admit your mistakes and take responsibility for your actions. This is not a safe place for dogs. read more

Not very impressed at all. Due to an error on their website, their calendar lists that the Puppy Camp runs starting on Tuesdays. Hmmmm . . . that makes sense I'm thinking. Lots of people camps only run 4 days, why wouldn't a puppy camp? So we call to start our puppy on Tuesday of this week after getting a recommendation from another person. We find out that we missed a day. Ok, no problem! We would be happy to pay a slightly less rate for the remaining 4 days - after all, we only missed Monday due to the error on their website. Nope - no discount. Full price for the remaining days or nothing. Really? I mean REALLY? They asked us to show them the mistake, so we took the time out of our day to do some screen shots and take some pictures. Guess my time doesn't count for anything - because when we called back after doing all that to find out about dropping our puppy off, we were still told full price or nothing. They did offer us a 1/2 day special price, but we are driving an hour to Mankato to drop our puppy off and timing it with my husband's job - 1/2 day is useless to us and if we have to pay for the other 1/2 of the day, we are right back to where we started - paying full price for their mistake. Not sure what kind of customer service they believe this to be, but it seems overall silly to chase a potential boarding/grooming/daycare client away for 18 DOLLARS! Plus, my family who was waiting to see how this went for us - we all have dogs and we all travel . . . wow, for 18 DOLLARS! They did mention that we could take advantage of puppy camp next month. Unfortunately, we have military obligations during that same week next month. In fact, we were planning on potentially boarding our dog there as well, but we were kind of seeing how the whole puppy camp thing went. There are 5 other doggie daycares in Mankato - I'm sure that one of them will be happy to have our puppy and our business. read more

We recently boarded our dog at Paws, and our experience was awful. Our overall feedback is bad, but the lowlight was a vicious bite that was inflicted on our dog. Paws was either negligent, incompetent or deceitful. They have cameras all over the facility, and never told us about the incident. When we confronted them about the bite they said no member of staff was aware of it. Our dog was bit bad enough that she has a two by two area on her back where the skin is dieing and our vet believes she will be permanently scarred and left with a bald spot. We will never take another animal to this facility, and would suggest you find somewhere else for your pets. read more

Definitely do not get what you pay for... We boarded our Great Dane for her first time at The Paw. We upgraded her to the most expensive room, thinking that the added space and the added attention of 3hr/day daycare would ease her stay. We were able to watch her on webcams, which was great, but we noticed she did not seem to be her normal self, and would not play at all during daycare. We were told we would be called if anything serious occurred, and we should feel free to call at any time to see how she was doing. She stayed for 4 nights. Midway through her stay, we called to see if she was eating. My husband spoke with the CEO, who said she was not eating all of her food but was eating. We came home to find out our Dane who eats 7-8 cups of food a day had eaten less than 1 cup of food the entire time. When we picked her up from her 4 night stay, she had lost 6 pounds, had a temperature of 106.2, was crying and shaking endlessly, requiring an emergency vet visit. We sent a letter to the management voicing our concerns, and received a rude letter in return stating that our Dane must have "deteriorated in the time between morning day care" and when we picked her up 3 hours later (because apparently she had been "fine" at daycare that morning). She had bronchitis and took 2.5 weeks to return to her normal self. We do not blame the kennel for her illness, but the fact that no one noticed how ill she was was alarming. Don't expect to get better or attentive care for paying more. We have since sought out less expensive kennels in the area with much better reviews. We did enjoy The Paw's facilities prior to this stay. We took our dog to the "Surf and Turf" nights, to let her swim in the pool, play outside, and use the pet wash at the end of her fun. The Paw has wonderful facilities to use if you will be there to monitor your dog, or perhaps if your dog only stays for daycare. It is not worth the risk to allow for a longer stay. read more

This review is based on my personal experience with the Paw as of January 2019. If you knew me personally you'd know that my dog lives better than I do. I give her the best of everything. I did thorough research when looking for a place to send my dog for daycare once a week. There are some other good places in the area, and to be honest the reviews on here for the Paw scared me. But I know the two dog trainers that work there and thought I'd give it a shot. That was over 3 months ago. Every day I am happier and happier with the Paw. Now I take my pup there for daycare, training, swimming, and free play on Sundays. Every time I walk in there they know my dog by name. I have interacted with many of the workers there. Kayla, Amy and Angel are awesome, just to name a few. Finally, the owner Tom, is one of the kindest people I have ever met. I first met him at their Surf & Turf event, when I thought he was just another customer. After seeing him there a few times I introduced myself. Right away he was kind and gracious. He even taught my dog how to be comfortable in the water in less than an hour. I always look forward to seeing him there, and I am confident that I can trust whoever he hires with my dog (who is literally the most sentimentally valuable being in my life). Sorry if this sounds like a hard sell, but it's true. And if you end up at the Paw, Penny and I look forward to seeing you there one day. read more

Please do not take your dog here. Our dog lost 15 pounds while staying at the Paw and NOBODY BOTHERED TO CALL US. Not a single person thought it was a good idea to pick up the phone and call us while our dog wasted away into nothing. We ended up taking her to the vets office where she was treated for malnourishment and dehydration. Very disappointed in our first experience here. Boarded our Golden Retriever for 13 days while we were on vacation. Not only did we have to PREPAY (do they think we won't be picking up our dog again after vacation?) but we requested that our dog be groomed the day we picked him up (January 4th). When we went to pick him up today, we find out that when he was dropped off they had not gotten our name in the system and we were told that the groomer must have forgotten to put our dog in the schedule when he was checked in. Very disappointed in our first experience and will be looking to other places to take our business. read more

We went a wedding and decided to board our dogs instead of trying to get friends to watch them for us. While dropping off the dogs we were told that the facility would have 90 dogs for the night. After viewing the kennel area I was unpleasantly surprised to see just how small the kennels are, and that they could pack 90 dogs into such a small area. When checking in we were assured 5 exercise/bathroom visits per day. We asked if our dogs could use the pool for the visit and they said it would be an additional charge since the pool usage is free for daycare but not for boarding. When picking up our dogs we found them to be shaking and they did not eat any of their food. We asked when was the last time they had been out, the lady told us that they went out at 8AM and it was almost 2 PM. She didn't see anything wrong with that. I am glad we didn't wait until 5 to pick them up. We immediately let the dogs out and they went to the bathroom as soon as they got outside. Also they all had running noses and watering eyes. In my opinion the facility is substantially understaffed which is one of the contributing factors that our dogs were neglected. read more

We traveled to MN from NJ to visit family and friends and decided to check out The Paw for daycare. We first took our newly rescued dog with us on a tour and were very impressed. We hadn't made an appointment and yet the staff dropped everything to greet us and our dog and give us the tour. We then used the daycare and loved it. Our dog, Buford, had a great time. He came home exhausted, but not at all stressed. We found the people cheerful and kind and have already recommended The Paw to numerous people. It was a great experience for us. My review is based on our experience with The Paw from several years back. I didn't use Yelp then but they ran through my mind earlier and I decided to leave a review =) We used The Paw's boarding facility two or three times when we were relocating from Texas to Minnesota. I hate leaving our Fred anywhere, and actually only boarded Fred one time after The Paw when we lived in Chicago and travelled home to Texas for Christmas a couple of years later. I felt VERY comfortable leaving our Fred with them The Paw. Their boarding facility was very nice and clean. The dogs were secured in large kennels, and I believe there were little dog cots in each kennel. I remember the employees being very patient with all of our tedious questions, instructions, and preferences. Fred doesn't (and didn't then) have any special issues - we're just neurotic, paranoid pet parents. We're THOSE people. While we were gone I know that I called at least once a day to check in on Fred, and I don't recall feeling like I was putting anyone out or inconveniencing anyone who happened to take my calls. In addition to boarding Fred with them, we also brought him to their groomer, Andrea. I don't know if Andrea is still there at this point, but she always did such a great job for a decent price. Fred never came back to us seeming out of character at all - always happy and pleased. My husband, Fred, and I all loved Andrea! The Paw is a beautiful facility. Very large and nice. Clean and modern. They had a little area in the lobby where they sold leashes, collars, toys, etc. On the opposite side of the lobby they had a nice coffee bar area with tables. They have a wonderful water therapy area and at least one huge indoor play area in addition to the boarding and grooming faculties. Outdoors is a huge outdoor play area that has a rolling garage type door that opens up to a huge interior play/training area. They have toys and play equipment, and even an adorable water facet low on one of the walls for dogs to get drinks from. We visited one Saturday or Sunday morning for a small dog play group. No fee, but it was cold and drizzly outside so we had the place to ourselves! We also attended a precious and fun Halloween party one year. There were plenty of cute pups dressed in their Halloween get ups! I genuinely wish that we had a Paw near us here in Texas. They were (and I would guess still are) a top-notch business. I would not hesitate to take Fred back to them, and I would recommend anyone to them even if they are a good ways out of the way. read more

We've used the Paw many times since they opened a number of years ago, for two different dogs and for our cat. I was sorry to read the reviewers who had poor experiences.....ours has been just the opposite. We would strongly endorse The Paw to anyone, based on our experiences. The facilities are clean and well kept and all the caregivers have been attentive and loving. As our former dog, Rusty, was getting up in years they always gave him extra love and care. Our current dog, Milo, gets excited when we are still a block away and can barely contain himself when we bring him inside. He hardly looks back at us, he is so excited to get out and play. And he is so tired when we pick him up, which is wonderful for our energetic pooch. We've used daycare and boarding many times, as well as enjoyed some special events and activities like Sunday's "Surf and Turf". Our cat has boarded a couple times also. The couple times there was a concern we were contacted immediately. We can't say enough about The Paw! read more

Have taken my dog to the paw for a very long time, however the last time I took him in they let my 15 pound dog run outside with the 100 pound large-sized dogs. UNACCEPTABLE. My dog got BIT on the head and I have the vet records to prove it. Now when I try to bring in my dog they say we are banned from staying with them. Unprofessional, Stuck-Up, TERRIBLE place. I was the one who decided where Buddy was going to stay while we went on vacation. I had reservations at other places before I landed on The Paw. I trusted them to take care of him. I trusted them to follow my instructions on his care. I even paid for the Executive Suite. I dropped off one happy boy, so excited for his stay and came home to a dog that was too weak to even stand up. I've done day care there before. This was my 1st time boarding. I had told them if Buddy got wet his collar would need to come off because he easily gets hot spots. (Common golden thing) I had told the manager on duty this and the receptionist. They asked again for any special care info and I told them again about removing his collar so he could dry off. Well this never happened and he ended up with the largest Hotspot any of my dogs have had. Well when the Hotspot goes untreated it becomes a staph infection. And by Saturday when we got home he had a fever of 106 and the staph infection got to his lungs and they were filling with fluid. I have tried a number of times to reach out to the owner and no success. Sadly we were unable to stop the fluid. Buddy went to heaven 4 days later. It took the owner over a week to get back to me. Our 1st conversation was about 10 minutes of excuses. They refused to refund my stay and I was also charged incorrectly. After talking to other people this is common. I will NEVER recommend the Paw to anyone who cares about animals. read more

I was completely unimpressed with The Paw. I don't believe that the business is designed to serve people and dogs but rather to make money. The sales rep on the phone oversold The tiny kennel my dog would Be in, and then gave incorrect information about the availability of extra outside playtime. Then when I picked up the dog, The staff told me that he had worms. After weeks of monitoring stools, it was obvious that they had the wrong dog. The worse experience ever. I would never use this place again. Very poor service. Due to a family trip during the holidays, we boarded our German Shepherd Molly at The Paw . The dog had a mild renal dysfunction otherwise healthy, active and eating two meals a day. A week after we left, my wife had called the place to check how Molly was doing.She was told that Molly was "playful and doing well". To our surprise, when we pick her up on 01/06/13 the dog was very skinny and so debilitated that she could not climb into our car. When we took the dog to her vet the next day, we found out that she had lost 15 Ib ( Yes, you are reading right: 15 pounds in two weeks !!!) . Our vet found that she had a urinary infection , exacerbation of her renal problems and a remarkable weight loss !!. We had called back the Paw and asked what happened. Unfortunately we only had as an answer skepticism, lack of empathy and meaningless excuses . Since the Paw's employee talking to us was even doubtful and dismissive of our accounts, few days later we faxed to them a copy of our veterinarian report. Also, we authorize our vet to answer any question that they could have. Up to today we do not know why anyone at the Paw did not see Molly going downhill so quickly, neither why no one had the courtesy of calling us ( even when they did have all our contact info) and making us aware of what was going on. When people entrust you with their dogs, they should feel comfortable knowing that they will be picking them up in the same condition in which they were received. Several weeks ago a friend dropped off a dog for a short stay at The Paw expecting to return from their vacation to the same bright, cheerful dog they left. This was not the case. Instead, they came home to a dog that couldn't stand and could barely breathe. Despite emergency vet visits and constant care, they had to put him to sleep a few days later. Someone made a tremendous mistake and a simple apology doesn't suffice. They lost a member of their family due to your negligence. read more

The Paw is not accessible to people with disabilities. They are quite a new establishment so this was shocking. The lady there stated they would obtain a certified interpreter for a dog training class (as required by the American with Disabilities Act - ADA). 5 days before class, we received a call from their attorney that they will not provide one due to it costing too much. The class had already been paid for. My dog took 12 sessions of training at Petco and they did not hesitate to provide an interpreter. If Petco had advanced levels of training, I would go back in a heartbeat. read more
